getting back to launch box when finished with a game

Please dont burn me I am new to all this and my searches on google are not turning up much.

I am in the process of importing and LB looks amazing. I currently use retroarch and have never had any luck getting thumbs to load etc so this seems perfect. I have seen a tutorial on associating launch box and retroarch.

I want to have a total console experience, no keyboard and mouse, windows is set to auto login and I have controllers attached.

Once I am done with a game how do I come out of retroarch and back into LB without a keyboard and mouse?

Thanks!

You need to have a premium license and then you can set a controller button combo press to exit the emulator. By default the button combo is setup to send the escape key command to the emulator which works perfectly for Retroarch and Mame as well as some other emulators. There are some emulators however that do not use the escape key and with those emulators in LB you will need to setup an extra AHK script in the edit emulator window to close those emulators out.

Also, Launchbox and BigBox need you to set the button combo separately.

OK that sounds reasonable I will purchase a key.

Presumably launchbax will be the app in the background so will come to the fore ground once retroarch quits.

You can also set a exit controller combo directly in retroarch, Settings/Input/Hotkeys.

You need to specify which cores you want to use for each platform, we have some of the more popular ones pre applied, but we cant be mind readers and predict what core you are going to use. To specify the correct core head to Tools/Manage Emulators/Retroarch and click on the "Associated Platforms" tab, this will list systems as well as the core they will use, fill free to edit/add any systems and specify the correct core. The system name here must EXACTLY match what you called the system when you imported it, and MAME/Arcade isnt in that list at all by default.

OK evidently I have a lot to learn. I'll see if I can find a wiki.

There is no wiki, and i did tell you exactly what you need to do in my previous post, just go to the screen i specified and edit to your needs.

This is the "associated Platform" list i mentioned, as you can see it lists a ton of platforms, if you want to use a Retroarch core for a system that system must be in this list.

Then secondly, once you have selected a system, or added a new one by entering it in the empty cell at the bottom of the list, you then need to specify the Retroarch core that system should use, you do that by double clicking the core cell and picking the core you want from the dropdown that opens.

Thanks for your patience.

I have retroarch as the one NES should use. In the retorarch emulator settings NES is listed with mesen as the core.

The core is installed in retroarch,

The system name is nintendo entertainment system, the name in the emulator settings is nintendo entertainment system.

Plaing an NES game does nothing, playing a SNES game works fine. I'll apply the key I have purchased see if that does anything,

and could you also right click a NES game in Launchbox and go to Edit/launching tab and grab a image of that,

and finally on the same edit screen as above please take a shot of the Emulation tab,

Its probably me, I have this effect on things lol.

Oh, this is a easy one. :) Your roms are zipped, but you don't have Launchbox extracting them before passing them to the emulator.  Check that box in your first image to "Extarct Rom Archives Before Running". I will add though, there is zero reason to keep roms that small zipped in the first place, you are saving no space, personally i wouldnt keep them zipped, but it's up to you at the end of the day.

OK trying to work through that but the preference seems to be universal in the emulator section. I have told it to extract zipds. When I try and play a game every single one just says 7-zip returned an error. But gives me no details.

I am unzipping the nes files but I can only imagine unzipping the mame ones will be carnage?
