Tackskull
Hi there, I want to use the retroarch builtin mame core because I feel better to use retroarch and all its features. Since now I was using the mame 2016 core using a quite old romset. If I use the latest mame core, each time I update the core, should I update even the romset? I have the 0.243 romset right now wich should be the latest one
Lordmonkus
Update the core if you update the rom set, if you don't update the rom set then don't update the core. You want to match the version of Mame and the rom set as best as possible.
Tackskull
Each time I update retroarch all the corse have been uptate at the same time. So how I avoid to update mame?
Lordmonkus
I don't have an answer for you beyond making a backup of the core you need and replacing it when there is an update. This is just one of the many reasons we recommend using stand alone Mame over RA for arcade emulation.
Headrush69
Start Retroarch Load the core Go to Information Go to Core Information Select Option to lock that core It should stop it from being updated. I do agree with Lordmonkus though, the standalone MAME just is a better and more flexible option. I know people like the shaders from Retroarch, but you can add the BGFX chain from ArcadeCabView if you don't like HLSL in MAME, Edited December 10, 2022 by Headrush69
Tackskull
I'll try both the oprion, standalone mame and the core in retroarch. Why choose one when I can have both Thanks you all, I'll try to follow your advices
Lordmonkus
The RA Mame core has issues, most notably it can have troubles with controls. The RA doesn't have the Mame controller stuff stripped from the emulator so the RA controller stuff and Mames can interfere with each other. You can read about it at it's homepage: ArcadeCabView at Emuline It's as simple as copying some files into your MAME directory and some simple changes to your mame.ini file to use the BGFX chain supplied. Lordmonkus
I would suggest using HLSL over BGFX, you have a lot more flexibility with HLSL and I have uploaded my settings for it here:
