Videos and sound continue to play in-game when I select a game fast

If I'm scrolling, stop on a game and hit "start" within a second, the game's video (and sound) continue to play forever.

This causes confusion from guests, and also requires us to restart the game.

Is there a way to mitigate this?

What theme are you using and does it do it in other themes?

The newer default theme. I'll have to test other ones later.

Ok, I've recorded three bugs likely caused by laggy UI and/or race conditions/lack of locking.

1. Move to another game in the wheel and quickly press select. The marquee won't update:

 

2. Spam select as you enter a game playlist from another playlist. The marquee doesnt populate and when you exit the game, nothing shows up in the game preview area:

 

3. As you switch a games, wait half a second so that the game preview JUST starts to load and then hit select. The video sound will continue to play in the background. Mega bezel makes retroarch take forever to load but you get the point:

I've had this happen when selecting a game quickly. I don't have an active marquee but I have noticed the sound keeps playing from the theme when the game starts so I have to close the game and relaunch it.

Yeah, the active marquee makes it obvious why it occurs. The event system hasn't updated the state before launching the game.

Is a known problem from years of launchbox and bigbox never solved. I with mame can get around the problem with this method :

That's a good idea but doesn't fix the incorrect digital marquee.
