Psynr Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 Launchbox is crashing when I edit metadata for any steam game in my 'windows' platform. If I edit but then cancel, it will popup error windows I've attached. Sometimes I can close the multiple error window instances and keep LB going. However, if I actually accept any metadata changes a slew of errors popup and LB becomes unresponsive. I usually have to cancel via the Task Manager before reopening. This is only occurring with my windows / steam games - all other platforms / games edit without issue. I did search through the forums and saw older mentions of similar crashes, but it looked like those were corrected via previous LB versions. I'm running a licensed version of 13.8. Let me know if I can provide any other information to help troubleshoot. My apologies ahead of time if this is a known issue that my keyword searching didn't turn it up. Psynr 1 Quote
Jakerfv Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 Did you ever fix this? Feels like there's a corrupted file somewhere, trying to figure out how I can manage this without undoing lots of sorting. 1 Quote
5thWolf Posted December 25, 2025 Posted December 25, 2025 (edited) Same exact issue for me out of no where few weeks back! Since this never happened before to me and this thread is old. I would guess it not a version issue but maybe a file got corrupt or something that can be done on user side. Edited December 25, 2025 by 5thWolf Quote
Jayinem Posted December 25, 2025 Posted December 25, 2025 This is why I don't just use the backups made from launchbox I keep entire backups on external hard drives. I run an app called Karen's Replicator that will copy any changes I make daily to those external hard drives too. A backup will only restore settings in the data folder. Quote

Are you sure it's the same exact issue? The OP's error appears to be related to something with the theme's window sizing or an error with the actual image(s) downloaded. And also from 16 releases ago. (Unless you're also on release 13.8 and the message reads the same) There is an unrelated known issue with Steam downloads that has been resolved with the current beat release. If you could share the error message you're getting, that would be most helpful. If there by chance is a file that got corrupted, restoring a backup using the built-in feature would resolve it. The (potentially) corrupted file would be one that's in the Data folder (which is what/where the backup/restore feature works off of). 1 Quote
5thWolf Posted December 27, 2025 Posted December 27, 2025 Ah, looked at the summery of the known issue and it makes absolute sense with steam. There a quick option to disable steam fetch until the next LB version? Here is the error message: Quote

5thWolf Posted December 27, 2025 Posted December 27, 2025 (edited) Ah missed it. Thank you! So I made sure Enable auto was disabled at the top as wheel as changing import to "none" and its still crashes with the same error. When editing games manually, which I do most of the time, it doesn't give an option to avoid certain things like it does when importing. I don't doubt this will work when importing though. I am not worried about waiting for the new version. Edited December 27, 2025 by 5thWolf 1 Quote
Psynr Posted December 27, 2025 Author Posted December 27, 2025 I ended up switching over to an .AHK launch that integrated button remapping while the game was running. Stopped using the Steam integration all together. Sorry, this probably wasn't an ideal (or even feasible) solution for those with giant steam libraries. No idea if a later version ended up fixing my problem or not since I effectively bypassed it. Hope you get a solution 5thWolf. Psynr Quote
