Hiddenpalm
This is a rusty question, and there is a good chance this has been asked before. I haven't been into retro gaming since maybe the Bush jr and early Obama administrations. So much has changed! Back then, MAME was the only choice for arcade games, as far as I knew. Does MAME and FBN run the same game titles (I know they run different rom sets)? Does MAME run more games than FBN? Are there games that only work on FBN and not MAME? If so which games? Which is better overall? And is it redundant to have both? Discuss.
Headrush69
Expect to get some varied answers, but both are great emulators. They have different goals and if your use case is just playing games than either will work. A few points: MAME supports more games MAME supports outputs (if that is important to you.) FBNeo supports Retroachievements in some games FBNeo supports Retroarch's shaders If you have lots of input devices, MAME is probably easier to deal with them. FBNeo supports end user improvements while MAME maintains absolute accuracy, (including faults and problems) FBNeo supports some hacked roms FBNEO supports alternate control devices, sound output, colors for various games Some will suggest that MAME is more accurate but that can be debated and likely not that important to the average gamer. Why not use both IF needed, Easy enough to set roms to use either emulator. No need to use one for all roms.
Mr. Shizzy
My question regarding all this is, are there any games that work on FB Neo, that do not work on MAME? If not, there is personally no need for me to bother setting up FB Neo. Edited May 18 by Mr. Shizzy

There are advantages and disadvantages to FBNeo and/or MAME, a lot of depends on personal preference. A lot of people will complain about MAME on Retroarch, but remember FBNeo is not the same as MAME under Retroarch. A lot of people use it for two features you can't get on standalone MAME, all the great shaders and run ahead support.
Mock
one other big feature for the MAME, is the CHD harddisk image support and partial game support for 3D games. FBneo is for 2D arcades all the way But for those game FBNeo support i use it as the primary core with Retroarch.
