Launchbox opening multiple instances of the same game/emulator.

I purchased a full license of launchbox many years ago and just got around to setting it up with my new GameRoomSolutions cabinet I purchased.  My cabinet has an IPAC4. I was getting all the buttons assigned and in the process I noticed that there were multiple instances of Mame opening.

I've done the following to troubleshoot. 

  • Unplug keyboard and only launch game from Cabinet controls. (2 instances)
  • Unplug cabinet and launch by pressing enter on keyboard with nothing else connected. (2 instances)
  • Opened SNES and SEGA games with both of the ways above. (2 Instances in each case). 

 

Based on the above. I know it's not the emulators or the cabinets, so I can only assume that launchbox is doing it. Is this something that happens often? does anybody know how to fix it?

  • Opened SNES and SEGA games with both of the ways above. (2 Instances in each case). 

 

Based on the above. I know it's not the emulators or the cabinets, so I can only assume that launchbox is doing it. Is this something that happens often? does anybody know how to fix it? 

 

 

Just for some clarity:

  • Are you using LaunchBox or Big Box?
  • Are you using startup screens?

Not sure what you mean by startup screens. It's a stock launchbox application install I haven't changed much at all. 

The Startup screen feature is the screen that comes up right after you launch a game, which tells you that the game is loading. Fairly certain it's enabled once you apply your license and unlock premium features, so if you are stock, I assume they'd be on. If they aren't, can you turn them on and let me know if you are still experiencing the same issue.

In Big Box, it's under Options > Game Startup

In LaunchBox, it's under Tools > Options > Gameplay > Game Startup   and well as Tools > Manage > Emulators > [emulator] > Startup Screen

Okay, so I don't really understand how. But that fixed my issue. I did NOT have startup screens enabled. After enabling them I don't have the double emulator double instance anymore with keyboard or control panel. Thanks so much for the help!  If you know why it was doing that I'd be interested to understand the why.
