Unable to manage themes in BigBox - (error)

Hi everybody,

When I click "manage themes" in BigBox, I get this error:

image.thumb.png.81f7e1a3c0179dfcbfd3e0b40cb0374e.png

This happens frequently so I don't think it is an issue with my internet.

I think this may be to do with when I installed Launchbox, I did have a launchbox/launchbox folder setup.

After finding out this caused issues, I copied everything from launchbox/launchbox and moved it to /launchbox and then deleted launchbox/launchbox.

Should I run the "Launchbox - 13.17 - setup.exe" again, making sure my filepath is not launchbox/launchbox?

Will this fix the issue? You can't change the filepath of where launchbox.exe is, or can you? So I assume reinstalling will fix without overwriting games, themes etc?

More info: I have nothing in my updates folder either. I am not sure if this is normal since I just installed 2 days ago, all of my games work fine.

Thank you for any advice,

Peter

Hey @Peter007, sincere apologies for the problems here. We had a temporary issue with one of our service providers which has now since been resolved, so you shouldn't be seeing this error anymore. Please let me know if it's still occurring.

Regarding the installs, it's normal that you don't have anything in the Launchbox > Updates directory if this is the first time you've installed it. That folder keeps any updates that you've downloaded, but since the 13.17 install is what you did when you installed the device, it's normal that this would be empty.

Let me know how you get on and apologies for any confusion caused there

Hey @AstroBob thank you for your response. Don't apologise, it does not bother me if it's a Launchbox issue because I know you guys will fix it.

I'm glad it's not a "me" issue.

So you're right, I can progress past that error now, but when I go to install a theme I get this error:

Am I meant to be downloading these themes from the Launchbox website, popping them in the 7-Zip folder and then installing it as I tried to above in BigBox?

Or do I have an issue?

Peter

Hi @Peter007 thanks for the update there.

You shouldn't need to download themes from the website, as it should be able to do it through this theme manager window. The error indicates that it's having a hard time extracting the theme that was downloaded as it can't locate 7-zip.

Can you go to the path it mentions (C:\Users\clockwork\Desktop\ROMS \LaunchBox\ThirdParty\7-Zip\) and see if there is an app called 7z.exe there. Also, can you confirm:

- Does this happen with all themes that you try to install, or just this one

Let me know and we'll get you sorted.

Cheers,

Hi @Peter007, thanks for confirming, that is definitely the culprit then. Because there is no 7z app there, it cannot extract the theme, since that is what we use to unzip the download.

I have a feeling this may have been a side effect of your original install, being inside another install. It might be better at this stage to run a fresh install of LuanchBox to ensure it has all the relevant dependencies. Then you can copy over your Data folder, along with any media folders (images, music, videos, manuals).

Alternatively, you can simply grab the 7-Zip folder from a fresh install of LaunchBox, but it's hard to tell what else might be missing from your current install, so it might be worthwhile to start fresh.

Make sure to take a backup of your build before attempting any of the above, and let me know if you need further guidance. Keep me posted

Thanks @AstroBob for being so helpful.

Ok so I will backup everything in /launchbox, run the installer again and then copy/paste over the fresh installed Data, images, music, videos, manuals folders with my backup versions of those folders.

Thanks. I think this should work.
