Haven't they been saying that for about 7 or 8 years? Hope to be proven wrong by that but I wouldn't hold my breath or anything

I’ve been running it for a few days now. Rebuilt from the ground up. Fully functional

If its going to be released, why havent they posted a demo on Youtube. Sorry, they have been saying this for years and if its true, it will be still tied to Rocketlauncher. A programe that is a pain to setup.

It’s been in private alpha testing for a couple of years now.  Everything kept very hush hush.  I’ve had it running on my cab for months. They just dropped a HyperTheme demo and there is a full demonstration livestream happening right before the launch.  Gonna be an interesting weekend, that’s for sure.

HyperSpin is what you expect for a 2025 version, everything else (HyperHQ/HyperTheme) is a bit shocking.

So you are now showing your age by being vindictive, instead of coming out with a comment like that, find out first why I cannot access it. My Network has Facebook Blocked.......

I am not some youngster, who doesnt know what they are doing, Ive been involved in the scene since 1997 and used many a Front End.

With Hyperspin, its a shame its not behind a Paywall, because people like Upchuck and Shaw, will be rubbing their Hands, because of the money they will be making off of the Update selling their Hard drives.

I'm curious to see how it evolved. I spent my first year trying to create things on hyper spin and everything was complicated. When I think back on it, my brain is boiling lol.

I keep a good memories of it because I learned everything the hard way... I remember the xml list that had to be updated to the decimal point just to add a game...

I still use it, but mainly for my arcades, and retrobat still works just as well.

It's going to be interesting to see ... the tools they're going to propose to the creators, because they'll be the ones who'll make the software work or not, since the content will essentially come from there ...

For a few years now, launchbox's level has been very high, thanks to Y2guru's community creator tools.

But I imagine they've been curious and will make sure to offer an equivalent.

Now we know what they have been doing for the past 10 years 👍

Launchbox's worst nightmare has just come true.

Doubtful. It's funny how Hyperspin fans sh** all over Launchbox boasting about a program that is very much obsolete and light years behind. I'd be really surprised if this new "Hyperspin 2" is anything groundbreaking, and is anything more than the same exact frontend re-written with a slightly more modern code. However, I hope I'm wrong about that because it's certainly nice to have some competition.

🤣 Light years behind ?

Even with a PC used by NASA it would still be sluggish.

Yes there is no doubting it looks fantastic, has lots of great features Hyperspin doesn't (currently) but pointless when you can't navigate or play any games on it without it grinding to a halt.

Hyperspin on the other hand (in conjunction with RL) is lightning fast, no matter what you add to it.

I have both setup with 300+ systems (600+ on Hyperspin) and I still use Hyperspin 10/10 days because of it's speed.

Running Launchbox and BigBox with a PC here that's about 4 years old, hardly what anyone would call "NASA" technology, and they both run fine with little to no sluggishness. Honestly though, I do think EmulationStation (in its latest form) does run a bit more snappy and if I was using an older PC I'd probably use that more often. I used Hyperspin for about 4-5 years and found it pretty annoying to set up, with very little reward in the end. Also, Hyperspin's speed is not exactly a game-changer for me. Having said that though, the more options there are among all of the emulator frontends, the more of a win-win situation it is for everyone. I'll certainly be checking out this 2.0 release whenever it happens to be released.

Hyperspin with a correctly setup RL... blows everything out of the water. Its not even close.

Everything on the backend when setup correctly... the bezels.. the scripting, Autohotkey and jotyokey integration, fades, scanlines, custom modules... and the sheer amount of media etc... Launchbox is fine but really... theres no dethroning the king.

On a side note... if you cant use the HS1 media... maybe im reading it wrong... maybe he just means with hypertheme... im hoping thats the case... but having compatibility to all the old themes... while fixing the bugs etc... man... that would have brought everybody/thing back...

As it stands... Ether people are going to have to convert all the old media over to videos... or start from scratch... and really.. that might be the nail in the coffin before it even gets off the ground. We shall see.

Being able to offer both possibilities and have a kind of backward compatibility at least initially so that the old-timers can adapt to editing software would be great! and we would keep both the DNA of hyperspin and open up the field of possibilities.

But I think it's time to move on to "full video": there are many software; easy to access and we do so many more things in terms of production.

Many of us have made our first productions here on hyperspin and moved on to video and I'm sure that few would go back!

Edit:

And I'm not even talking about AI, they are capable of generating almost anything from a simple image. Today it's not very precise, but in a short time with the right prompts (and it's going fast) we will be able to make themes by prompting. An example of an image with a beautiful Amiga.

Look at the soldiers...

So coming back with png and animations from left to right is not possible for me... :)

@boizgregthe nail in the coffin no! Most of the historical "arcade" mame themes are available in video format in 4:3 in 16/9 and in HD! But only on 16 bits too!

So the stuff is already compatible. The guys have done an incredible job. It's the tools and habits of the users that have simply remained.

Concerning the way each system reacts, it's true that it's a bit of a sawtooth even if the team ido everything possible to  to improve things, we are very far from the quasi-instantaneous hyperspin or retrobat or even a good coin ops on retro fe.

But launchbox has other assets!

After the quarrels between the "hyperpsin approved" and the launchbox supporters, there will always be some!

We had the same thoughts 30 years ago (Super nes vs megadrive) it's endless.

But I must admit that I didn't think I would see this kind of reaction anymore when we are old enough. :)

and in these cases competition is always beneficial especially for us :users!

I asked about video Themes and he said you can’t use them in the new Hyperspin 2.0 or any of  the current game themes 😱 (so it's looking like a completely different format they will be using)

I think their masterplan is to get everyone to upload all the themes they create (once approved) then you can simply click update on a system and everyone can get them that way.

With an entire community working on them, it shouldn't take too long until it gets back to a decent level.

No not possible! in 2024?😅😆😨
You mean it will only be compatible with standard zip themes with png and swf?

Why do some people think videos are superfluous?a well thought out video creates an immersive atmosphere.

It transmits the heritage and culture of the game. It's like Guardian of Culture..

It's really a shame! (if I translated and understood correctly)

I think hes lying.... If you look at the video you can see him adjusting the size of the video. Which means you can make the video the entire size of the screen.

He also said its encrypted... fine... if the file in encrypted you can still copy it and use it for different full theme video files.

Serialized? How is that going to work? One serial per account on the webiste? What if somebody wants to set up 2 or 3 machines? Are they going to deny people outright?

Is there going to be a cost for the serial? Lots of questions.

From what I understand, Its being built from the ground upwards, which means it will be a complety different beast. HyperHQ, is also being chamged as well. So in a lot of cases, peoples setups will have to be rebuilt.

I dont know, if there is going to be a conversion programe released, to enable systems to be changed over...

No, you can't use those old Hyperspin themes either, it's all completely different (It looks like everything needs to be created via the new HyperTheme)

Currently, to me it's looking like a disaster as all the stuff people have spend decades creating are useless with Hyperspin 2.0

It also looks like they are focusing on it being practically impossible to sell on unless you are a coding genius.

Basically, this sounds like a completely different program with the same name. The HS fans will probably love it for a day or two after it's been released, until they realize that all of their previous effort/files/etc. won't be compatible with it. Again, I hope that I'm wrong and a little competition never hurts. However, I left HS several years ago and don't plan to go back even if this has some 'groundbreaking' features which I don't think will happen, at least not for now.

I think that all the pirate exploitation of hyperspin has been going on for a decade

(to the point where in terms of referencing when you do a search for "hyperspin" you come across pirate sites first)

it must have really pissed them off (and we understand them)

We can complain about the paywalls here for the license or for a patreon but it puts up nice barriers and we see very few pirate launchboxes on the networks.

But for them it's impossible to go back, it's always
been free!

and it has to stay that way!

So in a nutshell, big means!

I think they absolutely want to protect both their content but also that of their contributor..

And I think it's developed largely in this direction... and keep the control

Wait and see!
