BigBox Locking up soon after going into Attract Mode in version 13.19

I had the same issue using VLC and windows media player everything would freeze after a couple minutes.  I never had it freeze before but then realized I did two things. I updated to  13.19 but I also for the first time used the video scraper plugin which downloaded webm or web something video files. I moved all the web files to another folder and the freezing stopped for me.

I am having the same issue, but it locks up after switching around a bit. I don't use Attract Mode. Usually 5 or 10 mins using Bog Box and it freezes up. I am using Unified theme, with VLC selected. I tried WMP and it still locks up at random intervals. Def a 13.19 issue. The locking up issue started directly after that update. Regular launchbox works fine.

I'm having the same issue, BB locks up after 5-10 minutes, no crash report and have to use task manager to close it out. It tries to start back every 30 seconds or so but only for a millisecond.

1 - CTC theme I created, no previous issues

2 - Platform View 1

3 - Vertical Wheel 1 

4 - Yes using attract mode but locked up before it ever was used as well

Thanks for any help as this update made my CTC created themes work a lot quicker!

from a cold boot straight into bigbox and not touch anything in arcade platform the first game video plays and repeats untill attract starts without issue. when attract starts in 13.9 may work ok for a time (varies) or may crash or the video will continue but keyboard will become unresponsive, with either VLC or WMP. videos from EMU, using uniform/ultra theme for most testing but similar results with others. also if attract does not crash/freeze the attract videos will play but there is no audio from them but if i take it out of attract mode the videos play and have audio no matter player is used. this did start with this update. win 10. another issue found is that when exiting a Mame game (Arcade) using ESC the game may not exit properly, multiple Esc presses may then exit game but sometimes have to force exit LB,

Mine freezes up within 30 minutes booting directly into attract mode. I tried changing to Windows media player but still the same issue. I rolled back to 13.18 and so far no issues.

Just curious, did you exit out of BigBox after changing to WMP? Then tested again after a BigBox restart and was having the same locking up issue? I have read elsewhere to shutdown BigBox after changing the media player and restart.

Good question. I remember changing it in LaunchBox, but honestly, I can't remember if I shutdown LaunchBox first, or started BigBox from the LaunchBox menu. I'll give your suggestion a try.

The VLC and WMP settings in LaunchBox and Bigbox are 2 different settings and one does not affect the other. In order to change to WMP in BigBox you have to change it in the BigBox settings and vice versa if you wanted to change to a different media player in LaunchBox you have to change it in the LaunchBox settings.

It's been running over 2 hours now with no lockup! I'll let it run overnight. Thanks for your help.

Here's something interesting... it's been over 4 hours and now all videos have stopped playing. No video previews for each game and no videos for the platforms. It's just black. But it's not locked up. I can still navigate through the menus. I'm using the Unified Refried theme, and I'm still using WMP for the video player.

Windows 10. But I rebooted my cab last night and it's been running fine all night, about 10 hours now. Maybe just a glitch I saw 🤷‍♂️

I have had the same problem with Attract mode locking up in BigBox when using VLC media player with the LaunchBox 13.19 update. I have 2 different builds (one in a cab and one on my main computer) both doing the same thing. The problem went away on both BigBox builds when switching over to Windows Media Player. A few things to note: I am using Windows 11 with the latest updates version 24H2 on both builds. Both PC's have Nvidia RTX graphics cards and Intel processors. Both builds are using Unified, Unified Redux, and or Unified Refried as themes in some form. Attract mode worked fine on both builds in LaunchBox 13.18 before the update. I will provide any further information to help resolve this issue if required.

I tinkered with the Video Playback settings in Big Box (don't adjust it in Launchbox itself as described above) and switched to Windows Media Player. The locking up issue went away, but switching to Windows Media Player has its drawbacks. Firstly, static screenshots will not display in the video box, on any theme. Also, .webm videos will not work. So switching to WMP will not be a permanent solution. I am sure devs are hard at work fixing the issue. But is does seem the 13.19 update messed up the VLC settings in Big Box for some reason. Having the VLC option in regular Launchbox causes no issues.
