Shredder_guitar Posted May 28 Posted May 28 (edited) Ok, I've tired all methods of setting this emu up and i just cannot seem to get it to work. First, I tried following this guide Then this guide, Then this guide, I can't get any of these processes to work...at best, I am able to get the scummvm emulator to launch to the main menu...but never have been able to get it to launch to a game. My current settings at the time of this writing are the batch launcher method, but that also doesn't work. Trying the latest method with the plugin again I have the settings below...but it still doesn't work. I have enabled debug logging and i don't see anything that i recognize as an issue.... 2025-05-28 03:20:12 PM GameDetailsViewModel LoadVideoMusic MusicNotPlaying Complete 2025-05-28 03:20:12 PM For the above 2 examples, create folders in /Games/ScummVM/ and extract the files into them, respectively. What you don't see is a .bat file. Which if it did should tell you that's for DOSBox. Not sure is ScummVM can work with zip files. But the contents are so small in size, it's just as well to unzip them. Quote

The"3 Skulls of the Toltecs (CD DOS)" game is unzipped into a folder and is the only game I'm actually testing...my previous comment was just answering your question as to what most of the games are. When I tried using the scummvm launcher and a batch file was created with it, the batch file itself worked, but it seems that Launchbox does not recognize the batch file when it is imported...so that method seems to not work When I try to just drag n' drop the games in, the folder is recognized and i have also loaded the game into scummvm, according to the video, i should be able to just click on the game and it works...but nothing happens. Actually it was C-Beats that was asking about the game formats. Can't say that I've ever heard of ScummVM creating a batch file. But if, in LaunchBox, the game is pointing to a batch file and you have ScummVM set as it's emulator, I can see how that wouldn't work. My guess is the batch file is what DOSBox uses. As I tried illuding towards earlier. For your last 2 games you showed that don't have a batch file, in LaunchBox they should be set to use ScummVM in Emulation and the games ROM File paths should point to their respective folders. vs. pointing to a file. And especially not a batch file. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I had LaunchBox install and setup ScummVM for me. (vs. me installing it myself) The above screenshots are just for reference. I never open ScummVM by itself. I Just placed the game folders inside the /ScummVM/ folder and LaunchBox automatically imported them. Then when I clicked Play, it asked if I wanted it to install the emulator. "Yes. Of Course!" When it was done, I clicked Play again and the game loaded. Quote

That makes sense. Looking through the plugin description, with the ROM path pointing to that batch file, do you still have the game using an emulator (i.e. Edit game, Emulation section, Use Emulator?) And that emulator points to the plugins "ScummVMLauncher.exe"? For reference, that command passed for the LaunchBox installed version of Scummvm (the one where, if you try to launch a game without having previously setup the emulator and LaunchBox asks if you want to have it installed for you) looks like below. Note, there's no user interaction with ScummVM needed. i.e. No need to load the games into the emulator via the UI, first. (may have to do with the --auto-detect parameter?) "D:\LaunchBox\Emulators\ScummVM\scummvm.exe" -p "D:\LaunchBox\Games\ScummVM\Amazon - Guardians of Eden (DOS)" --auto-detect --fullscreen In the end, use whatever works. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Quote

Can you backup your C:\Users\{INSERT-PC-NAME}\AppData\Roaming\ScummVM folder. Then extract my scummVM.zip and place that ScummVM folder in your C:\Users\{INSERT-PC-NAME}\AppData\Roaming directory Edit the scummVM.ini file and change the path to the directory where your SCUMMVM games are located. In my ini they are pointing to : D:\LaunchBox\Games\ScummVM\ Change that to your scummVM directory. EXAMPLE 3 Skulls 3 Skulls of the Toltecs (DOS English).bat Put the '3 Skulls of the Toltecs (DOS English).bat in your Launchbox Games directory My bat files are located in : D:\LaunchBox\Games\ScummVM\launchers Change the contents of the bat file to where your ScummVM is installed. Then I will wait till you get to testing it.☺️ Well......good news and bad news........The good news is...I have 1 game working now (3 skulls of the toltecs)....the bad news.... I have absolutely no f**king idea why it works now as opposed to what i was doing before, I've rearranged so many things that I have now confused myself on what i've done. Here's some highlights..... I didn't have a "C:\Users\{INSERT-PC-NAME}\AppData\Roaming\ScummVM " folder at all... I copied the scummvm folder you provided and updated the last browser path and the toltecs path to "..\Launchbox\Games\ScummVM" and "\Launchbox\Games\ScummVM\3 Skulls of the Toltecs (CD DOS)\" Launchbox said that scummvm was out of date. I updated scummvm and now magically I have a scummVM installation in my '..\games\ScummVM\" folder. I updated my settings in LB to match your screenshots and used the epicfail file to put in the 3 skulls folder. At this point I have a scummvm installation in \games, \emulation, and a completely seperate area that i know that has worked with hyperspin that I'm in process of migrating to launchbox. All that said, once I get things cleaned up i think this may get me on the right track once i find out what's working and what isn't. Thank you for the help Edited 11 hours ago by Shredder_guitar Quote
Shredder_guitar Posted 11 hours ago Author Posted 11 hours ago (edited) A quick afterthought..... My windows machine is on Windows 11 pro 24H2....which broke a TON of stuff... including HS 1.5.... My machine has recently done an update and HS is working for me again... I wonder if the updates have also had something to do with scummvm and LB ....I have no proof of that being true...but may be a thing. also, definitively, Launchbox does not recognize the bat files as games to import. How do i navigate mass adding games? Edited 10 hours ago by Shredder_guitar Quote
JoeViking245 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I've never used that plugin that was mentioned and creates the batch files. I believe that when LaunchBox sees that the emulator is "ScummVM", it only looks for the games' folders. As that's what ScummVM looks for also. You might be able to change the name of the emulator you setup in LaunchBox (and probably rename the exe) so that LB will recognize files as games (vs looking only for folders). If you're wanting to stay that route. There is the option to let LaunchBox set things up for you. Yes, it will require starting the ScummVM process over. But it's pretty straight forward, fast and easy. It also adds the benefit of making ScummVM portable. aka, no data needs to be stored under /AppData/ for the emulator. Quote
Shredder_guitar Posted 10 hours ago Author Posted 10 hours ago I started over and did the drag n drop method and it worked without a hitch. WTF...... I truly bet is was windows updates with 24h2 messing with it.... I fought with this for almost an entire day without it working. *shrug* whatever, glad it works now, Thank you @JoeViking245 and @launchretrogirl2562 for your help, I appreciate it 1 Quote
