hoping someone can help me out?  i have everything downloaded, bezel project, themes first, systems second

as examples, if i start a MAME game, donkey kong, i would think there would be a dkong bezel, but it's just a generic mame bezel with some dkong art on the sides, but not the dkong actual bezel.

also, in mame, running a few obscure consoles, emerson arcadia and astrocade, both dont have any bezel whatsoever.

i'd love to see actual arcade bazels with the arcade games, then a generic system bezel, for consoles.

anyone want to hold another users' hand and help them out?

thanks so much

If I had to take a guess, I'd say you downloaded the System Art bezels.

And what you want is the Themed bezels

If the Bezel Project does not have them for a certain system (they do have them for many), you might be able to find some in this forum's Downloads section.

Top of this page in the search bar, select Files and then search for something like "Bezel" or "Bezels".  Searching "Bally Astrocade Bezel" might be 'too specific' for getting search results.

i just tried "theme only", still showing a generic mame bezel.

Wait! Is it a generic MAME bezel (see below)?  Or a generic looking MAME [System Art] bezel with some dkong artwork (see above)?  Or could it be something completely different than what I show?  Those are 2 separate images potentially leading to 2 separate troubleshooting processes.

Instead of troubleshooting, you might just want to start over.

  • Delete all the subfolders under /MAME/artwork/ EXCEPT /bgfx/
    • NOT any files in the /artwork/ folder. Just subfolders (except the one)
  • In LaunchBox, select your Arcade platform
  • Click a game, then press Ctrl+A to select all
  • Go to Tools - Download - Update Metadata and Media for Selected Games.„
  • for "Download Images" click Check None
  • For Download Bezels..., check the box then [may want to] select Only Theme Bezels
  • On the next page, select the recommended option
  • Finish

i am using stand along mame, not retroarch, not sure of that makes a diff?

Only in that you're using the "right tool for the job". :D

hey man, i REALLY appreciate the help.

to answer your question, it is the generic mame bezel WITH dkong artwork, as in your first post "system art" bezel.  i deleted all as suggested (FYI, the bgfx folder s in the mame root folder, not the artwork folder).

then reran the process, took a while, the processing bar reset back to the beginning and i seem to be stuck on "Downloading bezel pack bezelProject-MAME..."

Curious where the bezel project files download to?

thank you again, very much

OH!  The download FINALLY started and downloaded VERY quickly, i now have my bezels back, THANK YOU!

if i may ask, is it possible to have multiple bezels per game?  i'd like to try some of the communities bezels but diont want to ditch what the "stock" bezels are.

thank you again!

Those are 2 separate /bgfx/ folders, containing 2 separate sets of folders/files.

Yes. You just need to add the other .png file(s) to the respective game's folder under /artwork/ then edit the default.lay file [in that folder] to add another bezel option pointing to the other image file.

But what you want to hear is... just [temporarily] rename the /artwork/ folder to something like artwork_backup (or whatever you want to call it).  Then create an empty [new] /artwork/ folder and place your "experimental" bezels into it.

Unfortunately, we don't have Retroarch or MAME support for those two systems. I'll add them to our todo list, but just to be transparent, it will be a long time before we could get to them. We are currently working on updating our existing Retroarch repo sets that were created back in 2018/2019 per community vote. The flow goes like this. We create Retroarch support first (easiest), then we have to create custom logic to map the Retroarch naming to MAME system naming (I wish these guys could get together on a standard!).

I do announce here in the main Bezel Project thread all new releases the project creates, so it is worth 'following' that posting.
