Systems show in launch box but self-delete in big box

Hello all,

So I'm having a very peculiar issue now that I've updated launch box. And it's happening with three systems specifically. Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii and the Dreamcast.

I've included photos so that you can see the Wii structure. I have four titles that run perfectly in launchbox using the dolphin emulator. Standalone emulator, not the core from retroarch.

In the photos you can see the menu structure and the library. Once I start big box, they do not show. Sometimes what happens is they will show but it will not load all of the ROMs. For the Wii it may show two titles. Once I exit out of one of those titles and try to go back in to the Wii emulator, it will only show one title or the entire system has vanished from Big Box all together.

I've made sure to not hide system or ROMs in big box.. setting that's in launchbox. In big box under options, I am sure to view all platforms instead of games, and it doesn't matter, those systems will not be there. If I view platform categories and go to consoles, it's not in there either even though they all reside in launch box.

I have gone and deleted the Dreamcast, GameCube and Wii out of launch box and reinstalled them. Once I do that, they show up once or twice in big box but still not with all of the games populated. If I exit big box and go back in, they are no longer there.

This is the first time I've encountered anything like this before as I've been using lunch box / big box for about 9 years. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to hear.

Your screenshots tell some kind of story, although there's not enough screenshots to get a full picture.

The things of note that probably don't have to do with your concerns:

  • You've custom named your Wii, Dreamcast, and GameCube platforms, which might be a clue there. Just not sure what clue that is
  • You've set a sort order on them, which means your list in both LaunchBox and Big Box will be set to that order and not platform title alphabetical. This means, for example, your Wii platform will appear at the bottom of your Consoles list, your GameCube will appear above your TurboGrafx-16 platform.. and your Dreamcast will appear even above that, yet your Big Box screenshot shoes part of the list that wouldn't contain any of those 3 platforms
  • Your Dreamcast platform might be missing a Scrape As value. Probably not relevant, but you will run into other issues because of it, like the fact it's showing up in both your Root of your Platform Categories section and inside of Consoles.

If you feel like you are missing games that should have been imported into LaunchBox, we could use some better screenshots, like a screenshot of your file explorer inside one of the platforms including the full path to the folder, a screenshot of the method you used to import them into LaunchBox. You should take screenshots of each page of the wizard you are using just to be safe. If not using a wizard, you should explain which process you are using. Last, you should take a screenshot of you editing the platform and going into the folders tab.

What I'll do is just make a quick video and upload it to my YouTube and send you the link. I think that would probably showcase more than what I could with screenshots🤓

Interestingly enough though, I didn't do any custom naming. All that I did was in launchbox... I went to import ROMs and imported for a single platform. That's how I got the Wii, GameCube and Dreamcast. I did the same thing for the couple of PC games that use steam.. and now the PC games are also not showing up in big box.

If you give me a few, I will record that video and touch back with you once it's uploaded 👍🏽. I appreciate your help here.

Your last screenshot, showing the Platform wheel in Big Box, none of those platforms would show there (need to scroll up or down).  i.e. "there's not enough screenshots to get a full picture".

  • "Game Cube" should show just above NEC.
  • "Dreamcast" should show above "Game Cube"
  • "Wii" should show at/near the very bottom (before it cycles over again to Arcade)

Also, you have "Dreamcast" Platform Category (shown right below "Wii" in your LaunchBox screenshot) in addition to your "Dreamcast" Platform.  That wouldn't affect showing/not showing the other 3 platforms.  Just an observation.

Okay I'm back with the video link upload.

Hopefully this shows more of what I'm trying to convey. It's about 5 minutes but it does show me delete the platform, reupload so that it's visible and playable, playing it in Vick box and then it vanishing.

I'm not sure why or how all that stuff got mixed up to be honest.

This is honestly a very simple arcade setup that I'm doing so I have no reason to try to categorize anything any special way 🤔.

It was pointed out to me by the gentleman who is in this thread that the Nintendo Wii was just named "Wii". Not sure why that's like that either but it definitely was. I apparently whilst importing those roms i just typed in Wii instead of scrolling down to the actual platform.. apparently I did the same thing with Dreamcast instead of scrolling down to Sega Dreamcast.

I thought that would possibly fix the issue but if you check the video link I sent, you can see it's still doing the vanishing act.

Appreciate you jumping in... again 👍🏽

I compressed the data folder and PMD it to you a few moments ago.

Appreciate your help with this.

Thank you
