I noticed that not all artwork is always available to download through the system.  I decided to try creating a 3D box art on a whim (my first attempt) for the Atari 7800 platform (randomly selected) but do not know which folder I need to copy it to, and how to get launchbox to be able to see it when the game is selected.  I've attached the image as well as the name I thought should be used.  I tried both these locations

C:\......\......\LaunchBox\Images\Atari 7800\Box - 3D

C:\......\......\LaunchBox\Images\Atari 7800\Box - Front

then refreshing (F5) but still nothing displayed.  Can someone please point me int he right direction :)

Thank you

That image would go in the \Box - 3D\ folder.

You show the folder(s) you tried, but not the filename.  The filename should be the_games_title.png or the_games_rom_filename.png. Suffixing the image filename with -01 is optional. But does help is you have more than one image of that type for a game.

e.g. 3-D Asteroids.png (or 3-D Asteroids-01.png)
        C:\......\......\LaunchBox\Images\Atari 7800\Box - 3D\3-D Asteroids.png

Also, you'll want to make sure your Image Group is set to 3D Boxes (assuming you put it into the Box - 3D folder)
This also assumes you didn't rename the game Title to something other than 3-D Asteroids.

Beside whats being told , there is also:
If you are in launchbox and you right click on game->edit->edit metadata/media. there is a tab with name 'media'->'images' click add image. select your image. In top right you can choose what type of image it is. In your case 3d box. And lb will add image by it self.
P.S maybe trim that image so only box remains without the extras

The file name I used is:  3-D Asteroids-01.png

The other games that I have artwork for do properly show the 3D Box art.

If the image is anywhere under /Images/Atari 7800/anyFolderName/, when you edit the game, it should appear as one of the images in the Images section. If it's not showing there, something's screwy in either where you saved it, or how it's actually named.  If it does show there, verify what image type it's set to.

If none of that helps, can you share some screenshots?

  • The folder it's in and filename you have it saved as in Windows Explorer.
  • Edit the game and show the main Details section
  • Your A7800 platform main section in LB where the other boxes are showing but this one is not

Hey there, you can always drag 'n drop the image onto the edit window>Media>Images and choose the appropriate image type from the tab above,  it will automatically named and placed in the correct folder.  See below:

Just make sure the filename is .png to take advantage of any transparency in the image or.jpg for plain images.

Hope that helps some more. 🙂
