About This File

Here are 298 hacks for Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System. I love these, there are some good ones that are a lot of fun!

  1. The file Nintendo Entertainment System (Mario Hacks).7z is to be unzipped and placed in your LaunchBox\Images folder. These are all the screen-titles and screen-shots.
  2. The file Nintendo Entertainment System (Mario Hacks).png is a clear-logo I made (of course you can make your own if you wish).
  3. The file Nintendo Entertainment System (Mario Hacks).xml is to be placed in your LaunchBox\Data\Platforms folder as this has all the game notes. You will just need to use the replace function in Notepad++ to change the directories from G:\Nintendo Entertainment System (Mario Hacks) to whatever your directory will be.

There are no clear logos for the games themselves. I just settle with the generic font if using BigBox.

As for the games themselves, most hacks come in the form of a patch file like the .ips extension. You name your .nes file and .ips file the same name for each game. Some patches need a specific ROM like (JE) or (World) etc. Once named correctly, place them all in the same folder, then import the .nes file to LB and upon launching, it patches automatically as long as the files are named the same as stated above.

If you need some ‘help’ with the actual games (.nes and .ips files) themselves, send me a PM.

Also, I’ll always be adding more to this as I obtain more.

@Kondorito On my setup, I have separate categories for:

  1. Super Mario Bros. (NES)
  2. Super Mario World (SNES)
  3. Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA Mega Drive)
  4. Streets of Rage (SEGA Mega Drive)

I only add separate categories for the ones I really like, and there are many games for. I recently also started a general NES hacks category just for the stuff I really like such as the Castlevania series and Tetris as there really are a lot of great hacks out there.

That sounds great.

I currently have all my hacks in one custom platform (made it before the nested categories/platforms existed), but now I am thinking of just removing it all, and making it same as you, divided by games inside.

Yours sounds good too, thanks. It is a lot of work, but worth it if you wish to have things categorised like that. You should see my SEGA Mega Drive, haha:

image.thumb.png.8828e550026ec23f618548aabe4c0705.pngI have made custom clear logos and even nostalgia-themed background videos for them all. It took weeks of work, but I am happy with it all now. If you want to set up the Mario hacks here let me know and I will PM you.

Duuude! That Sega list! ?

Haha, I feel you; the sense of accomplishment is awesome (happens to me whenever I finish an art pack or something of the sorts).

I will PM you for sure in a short while, thanks Dane.

Great work here! I started work on adding media to my NES hacks but it was very time consuming and I got distracted working on my MSDOS and Windows platforms. Will definitely look into this, cheers!!

Hey, thank you. It took me a lot of time to put that Mario hack collection together. Though, I’m glad I did as it’s a nice feeling when it’s done. PM me when you add it for the patches etc.
