About This File

Hello all, here is my first contribution to this community. I have enjoyed so many countless hours of fun as a result of Launchbox and everyone here and I have always wanted to give back so here you go. I made this originally after being inspired by @Palada. He made a Beautiful startup theme to go with my new favorite BigBox theme by @viking, called Colorful. At first I just wanted to add more platforms but you know how it goes. I went a little crazy. Anyway I hope you all like and enjoy this theme.

Versions:

  1. Simple-Detailed-Startup-ml.zip - This one Uses Platform Logos from a folder in this theme that were made by ME.
  2. Simple-Detailed-Startup-yl.zip - This one uses Platform Logos that were set up by YOU in Launchbox.

I am using assets from both @Palada and @viking  and of course all over this community. Please give credit to both for making this possible. Once i got going though I ended up with very little that I did not make on my own. I am not sure of the proper way to give credit, but if anyone has an issue with anything I have posted, let me know and I will take it down immediately.

This was designed for a 1080p big screen TV. That is where my set up is and all my kids play on it. I tried this on my laptop and it all looked good but if you have any issues with layout or other please let me know. I will do my best to fix it.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure your Launchbox image priorities are set or no images will appear and the theme will look boring. I recommend setting:

  • Background Priorities to: Fanart-Background and Screenshot-Gameplay in that order
  • Screenshot Priorities to : Screenshot-Gameplay and then what ever you want after that.

What Is It?

  • OK, this is a startup and shutdown theme that is unique for every platform. It includes a controller silhouette, game art game details on startup plus it has an animated GIF loading icon as well as a GIF closing icon.
  • Every platform has its logo displayed. I had to make all of these so that they would fit. This means that some may be missing, but there is currently 77 platform logos and I plan to add more as time goes on.
  • The controller silhouettes are also all custom and may be missing a few but it has 77 currently as well. (some are the same for multiple platforms)
  • It also has a favorite icon in the bottom right corner that will be red if your game is Favorited.

How to use it:

  • This is my first upload, but you should be able to unzip it to your Launchbox Startup Themes Directory and Then select it from within BigBox.
  • Please make sure that all of the *.xaml files in the root of this addon match EXACTLY to your platform names or they will not work. FIXED

If you have any requests or problems please drop me a comment, I will do my best to stay on top of it.

I hope I am not forgetting anything, Please enjoy and thank you all for the many years of fun. Keep on Gaming!

PS: I have also made a Pause Theme to match and complete the whole setup. (this is a remake of PausePie by @faeran)

For me it appears to be just solid white for the background.

Ok, swap out the arcade.xaml you have now with the one attached here. Let me know if this one gives you any difference? If so, then i can fix all of them, if not then I am stumped for now.

The new xaml seems to cause that bug where it creates a blank window, loss of mouse cursor and the game doesn't launch.

just to be sure, did you close out your LB completely and restart?

also, the startup theme is in a folder labeled: 'Simple-Detailed-Startup-ml' exactly right?

if not then you are using the other one, my fault. Use the following attachment if you are using the other theme. The one titled: 'Simple-Detailed-Startup-yl'.

I am not sure then. I tried on 3 LB setups today and all of them are working. I am having trouble figuring out what the difference is. Can you think of anything that may be different in your scenario?

Based on what is happening, the theme is working and pulling the correct controller image and game logo, but no screenshot or background image. It seems that it is not finding an image to display. Everything else is working so is it possible that the games you are launching do not have these images available. Just guessing here, not trying to be difficult. I really dont know what else to consider...

Yeah I have no idea. What is the image path for screenshots. I was looking at it through the text editor and see this line {Binding Path=SelectedGame.BackgroundImagePath}. I don't have a folder named Background Image. My folder is called Screenshot - Gameplay. All the folders in my LaunchBox setup are the default naming and I have not changed anything. Think that has anything to do with it? Sorry for making this more difficult than it should be.

That is the code LB uses to locate the image paths for the selected game. I have no control beyond that. LB will cycle through available images and use a different one each time. Once we get it working you will see what I mean. The only other thing I can think of is the image priority settings. Make sure that your LB image priorities for Background and Screenshot are not changed. Mine are set to be screenshot gameplay first and fanart first. Let me know!

Well I feel like an idiot haha. I went to background priorities in the settings and those settings were not ticked. Everything is working on my end. Sorry to make this a hassle. Was all on my end. Thanks for the help. Can't believe I didn't check that.

Sorry, that looks like it is at the wrong resolution. This was designed for 1080p and does not fit right on smaller resolutions. This is the first time I have seen it at this resolution. The logo is trying to fit itself into the remaining space as per design but the space is too small. If you can fix the resolution then no problem otherwise try changing font scale in windows.

This is a new one that I made for a BigBox theme I am working on. It is very similar but more polished and has a nicer overall look. It also does not have the logo anymore so it might look better for your setup. I am also attaching the matching pause theme in case you want to try that also. Let me know what you think...

I'm on 1920 x 1080, but my text, apps and other items size was 150%. I've decreased it to 125%, and the startup theme looks amazing now!

Thanks a lot!

Hello, I have seen your startup theme, which I think is very nice, but it would be nice to add a loading progress bar for compressed games. The default theme has it, but I can't implement it well.

You could create a variant of it with that progress bar.

Thank you.

This is a wonderful theme. It would be awesome to see a dark variant to match the dark mode option in the colorful theme.

Alright; one BIG problem is that when you launch a game from LaunchBox (not BigBox) you lose your pointer. Its there but invisible and even closing LB or ending the task doesn't restore the mouse pointer. You literally have to go into Windows 10 Personalize > Themes > Mouse and choose Okay to restore the cursor. This is each time you launch a game or program from LaunchBox.

I tested this with a custom setup of Batman: Arkham Origins where I have it set to launch DS4Windows before TexMod.
