About This File

This theme is a modified version of Jasons New Default No Shadows or Blurred Backgrounds theme.
The changes were made to function best on a 27" 2560 x 1440 display so your results may vary based on your display size and resolution.

I will no longer be updating this theme, I have no desire to try and keep up with changes Jason makes or new features added. So if anyone wishes to take this theme and release they are free to do so.

*Requires Launchbox 10.9 or newer

Things I changed:

  • Reduced vertical space between platform names.
  • Increased the vertical scroll bar width in the Box Images View.
  • Increased the vertical scroll bar width in the List View.
  • Increased the vertical scroll var width in the Details panel.
  • Shifted the vertical scroll bar of Box and List view over to line up with the Details panel.
  • Adjusted the "Platforms" panel dropdown menu so that it shows all entries without having to scroll (unless you have an obscene amount).

Extract and copy the Cranky Ape folder into your \LaunchBox\LBThemes folder.
In Launchbox Options > Visuals choose the Cranky Ape theme from the dropdown menu and restart Launchbox.

Nicely done! I'm not sure how you accomplished this, but this LB theme speeds things up quite noticeably on my system. Thanks a lot for sharing this theme!

I like that you've kept the blur effect feature as users can play with small values to get a faint blur without slowdown.

It was Jason's 200 radius that caused my slowdown and not the shadows whatever they are. A zero radius returned my scrolling to normal.

Nicely done but I still prefer to use your bad old monkey theme due to the overall style of Jason's new default one.

It was Jasons theme, he removed the blur and shadows to improve performance, I only made the tweaks listed in the description.

Yeah, I prefer my old theme as well but there was no way to backport the new Retroachievements gamerscore into it so I had to redo the important settings in this new theme.

Now I am waiting and hoping Jason gives us a toggle for the dynamic box art resizing. It is something I dislike very much and want the choice to turn it off because it makes LB "feel" stuttery when scrolling through the games.

I was able to get thew new Retro Achievement stuff back ported into the Bad Old Monkey theme after all with help from @C-Beats, I was under the impression when I talked to Jason about it that it wasn't possible, probably just a miscommunication or more likely a misunderstanding on my end.
