COVERBOX FRAGMENTS VIDEOS: By DonellHD

DESCRIPTION:

I am quite possibly the biggest Coverbox fan in these forums, I've loved it since the first day I used it. It was my go to for over a year of retro gaming. After using it for a while I started to notice areas that could be improved upon, eventually leading to me wanting to do something about it. After getting permission from Faeran I started adding in all the stuff I wished Coverbox had. Its got all the flashy stuff of a modern theme but still retains that sweet warm glow of Coverbox. After a couple of years I started to feel the same way about my old fragments, all the new stuff Dave was adding to the CTC was missing from those old fragments. Now, here I am again doing that same thing. Redoing the coverbox views, its become my 2nd hobby. I also have an obsession with adding more and more to my gaming library, sometimes I just sit and look through it for hours and never play anything. I like to tinker endlessly with the games, this entire theme from the beginning was designed around my obsessive compulsive habits. You might notice that I take it way too far with the small details, this is because of my ocd, and will likely never change as it's part of who I am. I spent many months listening to what you guys wanted from the previous themes, I took all that information and mashed it together into what you see here. Something for everybody. It's been a long road, I've learned alot over the years and finally feel like I can bring my vision to life. Please keep in mind this is still a very early version of the theme, stick with me while I polish up and add more game list views.

To any newcomers, do not be scared off by the massive overload of information in this thread! It works out of the box with no extra work required. It works without installing any of the addons, or adding any custom options. It adapts to what you have installed and it adapts to what media you have. This will only improve as time goes by and people help me test the logic, eventually it will adapt to anything you throw at it. If you want to use all the custom options it can "seem" complex when in fact it's very simple. Making it was not, but using it should be. The custom options are for advanced users that want more out of their game lists. Give it a try, it might be your new go-to theme.

Be sure to read the guides I wrote below. Especially the one about how to change global settings within the theme.

FEATURES:

  • Totally Re-Remastered Coverbox views
  • Even more details
  • Insane amount of logic added
  • View box back when in game details in 2D or 3D mode!
  • On-the-fly region changes to UI, cases, logos, buttons, icons, even the background!
  • Many many custom options, so many options.
  • Now with a ton of new customization options! Most of the game views allow you to easily customize them
  • Tons of bonus media is now supported. You can add avatars, official icons, banners, xmb waves, change the color of handhelds, ui themes, the list goes on and on. Make it yours.
  • Cart & disc animations! You can turn them on/off now with the global settings!
  • Working battery levels for portable bigbox users, for all views. Handheld's in game list view even reflect real charge levels!
  • Now with a set of Global Settings so you can get your Coverbox just right
  • Seamless game details menu (just like CoverBox!)
  • Absolutely ridiculous amount of ways to customize this theme. Like seriously man, you won't find anything with more options.
  • Extend your gaming library even further with detailed information on the cover and icon dock, via metadata and custom fields. The tinkering continues well after your setup is complete.
  • Easy to modify! Almost all assets are layered for added flexibility! Don't like a logo I added? root around in the media folder and delete it, edit it, change the color, modify anything you want!
  • EXTREMELY detailed box art options
  • More than just a cover! Under the hood each cover is a fully constructed box. Complete with inlay, disc, cart, wrapper, everything. When missing media happens, what you see underneath feels authentic.
  • Custom startup & pause themes (still working on them for v2)
  • Tremendous amount of hidden detail, some of which you won't even notice until you use it for a while, or add certain games to your collection.
  • Now with Addon Support! Adapts immediately to what you have installed, and what you don't.
  • Background Videos are now installed as a addon! For those who prefer them off, the theme will adapt and switch to static bg.
  • Holiday Events Addon! New Holiday stuff added for those who enjoy a decent jump scare and good ol saint nick. (4th of July, Christmas, Halloween)
  • Now with proper Retroachievements Support! Get them cheevs (Thanks Dave!)
  • Background Music Addon! Listen to some sweet synth beats when you browse the platform list (can be turned off in global settings)
  • Now with Game Save/State Support! IDK what it even is, or how to even activate it, but it's in there.

GUIDES: READ THEM!!!!

INSTALL GUIDE:

Spoiler

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Download Coverbox Remastered and copy its contents to the usual "Launchbox\Themes " folder.

2) Done

*If you plan on deleting the theme when updating and have modified files or added custom assets (icons, etc) make sure you backup the theme BEFORE deleting it.

INSTALLING ADDONS:

1) Download the addon you want to install and copy its contents to "Launchbox\Themes " folder. Check the settings page to verify it was installed properly.

UPDATING ADDONS:

Updating addons does NOT require updating of the main theme, or deleting the old version of the addon (you CAN delete it, but dont HAVE to unless i specify to do so)

Updating is the same as installing, copy the addons contents to "Launchbox\Themes " folder, overwrite the old version. Check the settings and verify that the version number increased.

INSTALLING STARTUP/PAUSE THEMES: (NOT FINISHED YET)

Install startup/pause themes to their normal locations. They need to be downloaded and installed separately if you wish to use them.

Coverbox - Fragments Startup Themes

Coverbox - Fragments Pause Themes

SUGGESTED BIGBOX SETTINGS:

Spoiler

This theme works best if you use the recommended BigBox settings. Of course these are all optional but they match up with the menus and give the intended experience.

  • VIEW > default startup > set to "platforms"

  • VIEW > enable "remember separate view for each platform"

  • GENERAL > enable "skip game details screen"

  • GENERAL > enable "hold b to enter settings"

  • CONTROLLERS MAPPINGS > show game details screen > map to "start button"

CUSTOM OPTIONS GUIDE:

Spoiler

Almost every game list view in this theme has a hidden set of custom options to further extend the Coverbox experience. These options vary from platform to platform, and are optional. Each option is listed in the "_CUSTOM FIELDS.txt" file included in the themes folder (and also available for download). Enabling custom options is very easy, they are applied on a per-game basis. You can select multiple games and bulk edit as well.

Custom Fields txt file can be found in:

LaunchBox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\_CUSTOM FIELDS.txt

LaunchBox(8720165).thumb.png.237ec0d96022c5e79912c956a9363dbd.png

1) Let's start by adding 1 custom option to a PSX game. I want to use the greatest hits label for "Jurassic Park" because that's the box art I have for it.

DAppsCOMMUNITY_Theme_CreatorMy_Theme_ProjectsCover(5727257).thumb.png.65068dfbe14e2ed012dc1e9035f67eb0.png

2) First thing you wanna do is refer to the "_CUSTOM FIELDS.txt" file to get the needed info to add the custom option. Look for your platform in the list, in this case "PLAYSTATION".

DAppsCOMMUNITY_Theme_CreatorMy_Theme_ProjectsCover(7728889).thumb.png.2727014f5f30daee664bafdab2d1a292.png

3) Once you have found your platform, look for the option you want to add. In this example we want Greatest Hits. Says we need to add the NAME "Greatest Hits", with a VALUE of "Yes".

LaunchBox(9721143).thumb.png.df7bfdb5a78a289df98fa6a6ac14bec5.png

4) Now we go back to Launchbox and edit the game(s) metadata. Right click on the game and select "Edit Metadata/Media".

Edit_Game(2722116).thumb.png.b1e8bfd7887f90cc5cd9d3d721a009ff.png

5) Next we need to select "Custom Fields" tab to the left, then input the option from the themes "Custom Fields.txt". It said we need to add the name Greatest Hits  with a value of Yes

Edit_Game(5723117).thumb.png.6a6000b74a4fe51ec53946df18b88a51.png

6) Click on the empty space at the bottom to add a new option

Edit_Game(0724277).thumb.png.d403e05ccddf77b647f9d9cadf86a545.png

7) Enter Greatest Hits into the NAME section

Edit_Game(4725271).thumb.png.a7128f11ffd03d5e8541b8250d55ff61.png

😎 Enter Yes in the VALUE section

Edit_Game(2726751).thumb.png.926b8f9b87676930bda16e53eb05d03a.png

9) Click OK

LaunchBox_Big_Box(2729889).thumb.png.2888c63b8eb6215971c325c479dcefec.png

10) Thats it! Your good to go. Load up BigBox and you will see the custom options are applied automatically now.

Repeat steps 1-9 for any other options you want to add.

GLOBAL SETTINGS GUIDE: READ THIS!

Spoiler

You can now customize a few global options to Customize Coverbox even further! I tried to make it as easy as possible to turn things on and off.

1.thumb.png.9a8ad05d1b1cff9051886af97c5b6067.png

First, lets enter the Coverbox Remastered theme folder. Find the "Media" folder, and enter it.

Launchbox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\Media

2.thumb.png.57bcd6edd02e0e1dc15bd5e0e14fda58.png

Inside the Media folder is ALOT of other folders, don't worry, the ones we use are right at the top! Find the "_SETTINGS" folder and enter it.

_SETTINGS(3710483).thumb.png.cc1c126c77726415f514e25621eedec4.png

Inside the "_SETTINGS" folder are several .png files. These png files are named after the global setting they apply to.

_SETTINGS(8711200).thumb.png.1f0b7d7450ce06d6b10a13536e88a44a.png

If you want to disable any of the features simply just rename it to OFF instead of ON

*BigBox must be closed when renaming the files

_SETTINGS(7712694).thumb.png.b6d60e664e21848e54890176a8b5c99d.png

example:              BG VIDEO - OFF.png
rename to >        BG VIDEO - ON.png

That's it! The setting has been changed and BigBox will reflect the changes on the next boot.

Alternatively, you can name it whatever you want. It disables it as soon as its renamed to anything but what I have them set to. All pngs that are labeled as ON will enable the associated setting
automatically. These settings are global. A quick rundown of what the features actually do is listed below:

3D BOX BACK - Uses the 3D box model for game details. When off it uses 2D version.

BG MUSIC - Enable/Disable background music in settings menu, and platform views.

BG VIDEO - Enables/Disable the background video used in some themes. Theme will use static BG instead.

CART ANIMATION - Enable/Disable the cartridge animations

COVER STATIC - Enable/Disable the static thats displayed when browsing the game list.

DISC ANIMATIONS - Enable/Disable the disc move/spin animations

HOLIDAY EVENTS - Enable/Disable the holiday events

UNPLAYED WRAPPER - Enable/Disable the wrapper overlay for unplayed games.

UNKNOWN PLATFORM ALERTS - Enable/Disable the Unknown platform alerts on the default game list theme.

Enabling some options may have a performance impact, depending on how fast your PC is. I made the global settings in a attempt to counter this. If you find that the views are running sluggish on your pc try disabling a few features. I would start by disabling the BG Videos, theme still looks sweet even without them. Second, the cover static. Third, the cart/disc animations. Each one you disable should speed up the views a bit. Not adding colorfuls videos helps as well for platform views. I used his device images so it still looks similar even without the videos.

Have Fun! I know all these words sound confusing, but I promise it's easier than it looks! I spent a GREAT deal of time making this so flexible. There is alot of logic and moving parts, i may have missed something because of that. If something is out of place don't be afraid to let me know so i can fix it.

ON-THE-FLY REGION CHANGES GUIDE:

Spoiler

The on-the-fly region changes will only work if a region has been specified in the games metadata. Luckily, Launchbox does a good job of filling in that metadata when adding games to your library, no work required. On the off chance lb didn't specify a region, just add one manually. It will work automatically after specifying a supported region in the metadata, no more input required. Default is USA, if no region is specified it will always fallback to USA (Merica Baby!) I will list the supported regions below:

  • North America
  • United States
  • Japan
  • Europe
  • United Kingdom

*These need to be spelled EXACTLY as I spelled them above.

BONUS MEDIA GUIDE: NEW INFO ADDED! (9/10/25)

Spoiler

COLORFUL PLATFORM VIDEOS:

All my Platform views (right now just the one im still working on) support Viking's awesome platform videos. Clean, centered, uniformed....perfect. You can find them here. These are secondary to your primary platform videos, and play alongside it in Platform View 1. In order to use them with this theme they need to be copied to the correct location. First download the videos and make sure to rename the videos to just the platform name.

example:             Colorful_4K_-_Nintendo_DS_-_(1.0)_by_Viking.mp4
rename to:          Nintendo DS.mp4

Place all your "renamed" colorful videos into:

"LaunchBox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\Media\_COLORFUL VIDEOS"

They will load automatically on next boot of BigBox.

Alternatively, you can add any video and it will play in place of the colorful videos.

SUPER GAMEBOY BORDERS:

The Super Gameboy game list theme supports Super Gameboy borders on a per game basis. There are over 800 of them over at vgmuseum.

I don't have the time to crop and rename 800 borders but maybe somebody else does. If your looking for some of your own just get the ones you need for your games until somebody uploads a full
set to the launchbox forums. These need to be named exactly as the name of the game and copied to:

"LaunchBox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\Media\_SGB BORDERS"

_SGB_BORDERS(8713330).thumb.png.0362d67524dbee271e2b5fcf6309ccbf.png

If they are named properly they will load automatically on next boot of the Super Gameboy when highlighting said game.
PS: You will notice I already have some default super gameboy borders in there, those are loaded randomly when no game border is found. delete any you dont like.

NINTENDO DS GAME ICONS:

The Nintendo DS/DSi game list themes support official game icons on a per game basis. There are hundreds of them over at vgmuseum:

I don't have the time to gather and rename all of those, but maybe somebody else does. Finding the game you need in that sea of icons is
most def annoying. It's made EVEN more pleasant by the fact that every icon is named randomly. For those that power through it, the icons
need to be named exactly as the name of the game and copied to:

"LaunchBox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\Media\_NDS ICONS"

_NDS_ICONS(3714326).thumb.png.18ccfcfa3766233a2b2cb0c3c54d6e20.png

f they are named properly they will load automatically on next boot of the Nintendo DS game list when highlighting said game.

I know that nobody wants to make a proper set out of all those icons, but it would be alot cooler if you did

NINTENDO DSI ICONS:

The Nintendo DSi game list theme supports animated game icons, and nds icons on a per game basis. There are some animated icons over at skins.ds:

Maybe somebody will put all these in a nice neat pack and upload it. The gifs need to be named exactly as the game and copied to:

"LaunchBox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\Media\_DSI ANIMATED ICONS"

_DSI_ANIMATED_ICONS(4715612).thumb.png.0c5aabbb68305ead8fedcdc135219b53.png

If they are named properly they will load automatically on next boot of the Nintendo DSi game list when highlighting said game.

NINTENDO 3DS ICONS:

The Nintendo 3DS game list themes support official game icons on a per game basis. There are hundreds of them over at vgmuseum:

I don't have the time to gather rename all of those, but maybe somebody else does. Finding the game you need in that sea of icons is
most def annoying. For those that power through it, the icons need to be named exactly as the name of the game and copied to:

"LaunchBox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\Media\_3DS ICONS"

_3DS_ICONS(9719375).thumb.png.29e739c787bbe8cfd811d5bdd77b093c.png

If they are named properly they will load automatically on next boot of the Nintendo 3DS game list when highlighting said game.

NINTENDO 3DS CUSTOM THEME:

The Nintendo 3DS game list theme supports the use of custom themes designed for the handheld. There are thousands to choose from over at themeplaza:

Right now, it supports the use of only one theme. If people enjoy the themes I can make it "per game" with a bit of effort. Just let  me know.

Start by downloading the theme you want. Inside every theme zip is a folder named "ext_previews", inside of that folder are the theme files we will be copying.
They vary from theme to theme, but you only need these files:

pt_top.png
pt_bottom.png

Copy both of those files into:

LaunchBox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\Media\_3DS THEME

you should be left with:

LaunchBox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\Media\_3DS THEME\pt_top.png
LaunchBox\Themes\Coverbox Remastered\Media\_3DS THEME\pt_bottom.png

_3DS_THEME(5717838).thumb.png.28cc0de2bfa9017609f062e62987220e.png

If they are named properly the theme will load automatically on next boot of the Nintendo 3DS game list.

if no theme files are present it uses default 3DS theme

PLAYSTATION 3 XMB THEME:

The Playstation 3 game list theme allows customization of the XMB. If you want to change the wave theme, you need to rename a file.

Browse to:

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_PS3 WAVE

There is alot of xmb waves in this folder, some better than others. Some official, some custom. Pick your favorite one.

Once you got the one you want to use in mind, rename it to:

  THEME.mp4

You should be left with something like this:

 Coverbox Remastered\Media\_PS3 WAVE\
THEME.mp4

_PS3_WAVE(6755657).thumb.png.6f8b54c47d5149af6aeeb657813d45e1.png

Your all set now. PS3 game list theme will always load "THEME.mp4" when loading the game list.
Change it anytime you want.

If no THEME.mp4 is found it will use static bg

PLAYSTATION 3 AVATAR:

The Playstation game list theme supports the use of PSN avatars. I got all the default ones that came with ps3.

They can be found in:

_PSN_AVATARS(3756672).thumb.png.a2b56dd7d9844fd56d78caccf3a49c5b.png

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_PSN AVATARS

More can be found on the internet and used as you wish. Just copy them to this folder.

This folder already contains over 100 avatars, all numbered. If you want to use per game avatar you will need to add the number via Custom Fields metadata.

If you want to use a single global avatar, you just need to rename one of the avatars to "Sony Playstation 3.png" and copy the avatar into:

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_PSN AVATARS\Sony Playstation 3

You should be left with something like this:

Sony_Playstation_3(2757770).thumb.png.73aef30cb0218450064e34fdd67cb973.png

"Coverbox Remastered\Media\_PSN AVATARS\Sony Playstation 3\Sony Playstation 3.png"

*Using a global avatar will override any per game avatar. The revert just delete "Sony Playstation 3.png"

PLAYSTATION 3 ICON0 SUPPORT:

The Playstation 3 game list view supports the use of official ICON0 logos. These will load in place of the normal clear logos.
ICON0.png can almost always be found inside the games "PS3_GAME" folder. For example:

PS3_GAME(9760366).thumb.png.a8eeb736ff1308eaa4b77360fb8024bf.png

NAMEOFGAME BLUSXXXXX\PS3_GAME\ICON0.png

Just copy ICON.png from the games "PS3_GAME" folder and paste it into:

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_PS3 ICON0

_PS3_ICON0(3758246).thumb.png.cbff3a0b4224509641dcb929cc71ef07.png

Rename it to the games name.
* I have one example in the folder, for Persona 5.

PLAYSTATION 3 PIC1 SUPPORT:

The Playstation 3 game list view supports the use of official PIC1 fanarts. These will load after selecting a game.
PIC1.png can almost always be found inside the games "PS3_GAME" folder. There are usually more than one to choose from.
Just pick your favorite. As a example:

PS3_GAME(9760366).thumb.png.a8eeb736ff1308eaa4b77360fb8024bf.png

NAMEOFGAME BLUSXXXXX\PS3_GAME\PIC1.png

Just copy PIC1.png from the games "PS3_GAME" folder and paste it into:

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_PS3 PIC1

_PS3_PIC1(5759011).thumb.png.01323426d93df39cf1a9473e018a0943.png

Rename it to the games name.
* I have one example in the folder, for Persona 5.

XBOX 360 AVATAR:

The XBox 360 game list theme supports the use of avatars. I personally cropped around 140 avatars from various places.
I can crop more, if it's requested. I also set this up so you can use one global avatar, or per game avatars. Ge started by browsing to:

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_360 NXE AVATAR

_360_NXE_AVATAR(8761637).thumb.png.3640e1137ad2cca747b6539fd7bea507.png

This folder contains over 100 avatars, all numbered. You can crop more of your own, delete ones you dont like, whatever you want.

To use a single global avatar, you just need to rename one of the avatars to "Microsoft XBox 360.png" and copy the avatar into:

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_360 NXE AVATAR\Microsoft XBox 360

You should be left with something like this:

Microsoft_XBox_360(2762480).thumb.png.9b20a636389e708d37e8470c21445ffd.png

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_360 NXE AVATAR\Microsoft XBox 360\Microsoft XBox 360.png

*Using a global avatar will override any per game avatar. To revert just delete "Microsoft XBox 360.png"

*If you want to use per game avatar you will need to add the number via Custom Fields metadata.

XBOX 360 GAMER PIC:

The XBox 360 game list view supports adding your own personal (or favorite) XBox Gamer Pic.
Adding your favorite gamer pic here will override all other gamer pics, so it never changes. Start by browsing to:

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_GAMER PICS

_GAMER_PICS(7763568).thumb.png.2bf20ceca30ad3606fa85bcd6ee2c56f.png

Pick your favorite one, or grab more from HERE

The image file needs to be named exactly like this:

Microsoft XBox 360.jpg

And copied to this folder.

Coverbox Remastered\Media\_GAMER PICS\Microsoft XBox 360\Microsoft XBox 360.jpg

Should look something like this:

Microsoft_XBox_360(7765244).thumb.png.a5502595d4ebe2bfaa11a98a0956a567.png

EDITING THE THEME:

Spoiler

I forgot to document alot of stuff last time.  I guess now is a good time to get this thread full of proper information, with a small dash of backstory. Last time I did these, I modified how I added alot of the assets. When I first started I wanted it to run super fast, so I flattened alot of images, cut down on elements, to save space and keep it fast. I did this for a few platforms and found it really difficult to go back and make small changes to things because of that. It also felt, idk, not flashy enough for me.

When i first got permission from faeran to do my edits, I chose to scrap what i had done so far and start over using extra elements, adding extra flair, and layering most of the assets. I did this at first just for me, to make my life easier. This time I did it for ANY person that wants to root around in the media folder. I spent extra time making sure most things are in their own layer. you can replace backgrounds, fanarts, buttons, menu elements, pointers, almost EVERYTHING in the media folder. Obviously editing some things take a small amount of skill, but most you can just overwrite with your own image. The theme will show every edit, without affecting any other moving parts, or the logic inside them. Perfect for those that want to mod it in their own image, without ever using the CTC. If you mess something up, just replace it with the one from the zip, easy peezy.

I left alot of txt files everywhere to help people find their way, hope they are helpful.

Hopefully this helps further extend the flexibility of this theme, and brings somebody out there (besides me) some satisfaction.

What's New in Version v2.14.2 - Early Access   See changelog

Released

This update adds a few things to the XBox game list view, and some small changes to Platform View 1. It also contains yesterdays progress on PSP, it's still in the early stages so it's best to just ignore it for now. You might notice the filesize is roughly 300mb larger, this is from the PSP waves I added yesterday. Those will be moved to the Video BG Addon by the next update.

3 New Platform Views:

  • Microsoft XBox
  • Microsoft XBox 360
  • Sony PlayStation 3

Platform View 1:

  • Lowered selected logo zoom
  • Game count was misaligned
  • Added missing platform colors
  • Added some more color to the details panel

All Game List Views:

  • DPad arrows are now working properly (Thanks for the help Dave!)

Nintendo 3DS:

  • Local Play was missing fallback text

Gameboy Advance:

  • Fixed developer logo overlapping with link logo.

Playstation 2:

  • Animation timings were off when entering game list, it's still not perfect...but its better.

XBox:

  • Fixed 2D box back not showing proper case color
  • Fixed disc not aligning properly after exiting game details
  • Added the BG video from fragments back to game details.

*Logic was added so you can delete "Coverbox Remastered\Media\video\xbox_details.mp4" and the details menu will go right back to the way it was before.

XBox 360:

  • Fixed 2D box back not showing proper case color
  • Added missing platinum case border
  • Fixed info dock margin when only 1 player
  • Made the wheel wider (not sure how that happened)
  • Label was off by a couple pixels
  • 2D box back was showing a white line on edge
  • Fixed disc popping out too far after exiting game details

Playstation 3:

  • 2D box back was misaligned

* BGM/BGV have been updated. Still haven't normalized those mp3's but I plan on polishing the bgm addon up a bit sometime soon. Some of the volumes even after normalizing are too low, some need trimmed, it will require some tweaking to get it right.

*If you want to customize the ps3 xmb wave, you need to install the updated Background Videos Addon (v1.2)

*This update has a unfinished NES game list view included. I took it too far with the details menu and now have to redo alot of it. I left it in because i took a break from it but still need the base for later. Just ignore it.

*This update has a unfinished PSP game list view included that I was working on yesterday. Just ignore it. As requests are made and bugs are fixed, i upload things as they are even with the incomplete views.

Hi,

Would something like this be possible?
Even putting the genre or player labels a little higher and resizing the CD and box case.

1.rar 2.54 MB · 5 downloads

I see...that's what I thought you were asking for. I can indeed do that, although I feel some of the users might feel that throws off the aesthetic so it would need to be optional. Every platform (minus a few) have distinct box back labeling, I try my best to do 1:1 copy of them (if i can) so they all match up with the cover aesthetics. Throwing some game icons right in the middle kind of throws that part off. It also adapts to what info you have for that current game, collapsing and uncollapsing information icons on the fly. You can't see them all but that dock will expand to fully take up all that space (IF that game has all the info required) For psx there are like 10-12 info rectangles, when fully expanded it takes up every inch of that space. If i add the box/cd to that specific area it will move around inside the dock as well. I will try to implement this somehow in the future for you, it likely wont go where the info dock stuff goes though.

There was a typo in the wheel template for Playstation that was causing a crash for some people, it's been fixed. I'll try to get the fixed version uploaded today. (Thanks bmtkat)

Wow,
Well, it's just a whim... 😅I tried to do it myself, but I'm not very good at it.

If you could implement it in the future, I'd really appreciate it... Because I love your work.

I'll take care of ya cam, i'll find a way to get some icons on there for you sometime in the future. I'll just add a global option to turn it on and off. Right now people want the missing platforms remastered, I've been working on mainly that atm while i fix bugs people report (or i find myself). It would be a bigger edit but I could collapse the info docks and replace it with another version, that has those icons. And then they work like the 3d box back, one active and the other not. I'll figure something out when the time comes. Worst case I can make you a custom version with those 2 simple additions

Thanks vahn, to be honest I didn't get any crashes but i did experience a few long "lags" that I think is due to the ffmpeg issues. I did read that alot of people are having some trouble with that and it only happened to me a few times out of 100+ hours in BigBox. Im sure Jason and the team will get that fixed up sometime soon.

As for the sound I believe it's the same ffmpeg issue, in the game lists I use "selected item video" which doesn't allow you to mute the sound. In the platform list I used "User Selected Video" and it does indeed have a mute function, which I did use when BGM is enabled. If you disable the BGM in global settings it will then play sound from the videos in platform view 1.

Hope you guys get your builds back up sometime soon, I picked a bad time to release the early access i see.

Yeah I will have to wait until they fix the issues going on with ffmpeg because it is borked right now. I'll still keep up with testing your new updates though, the BG music and video sound, and video snap playback are just messed up atm.

I'll mess around with the bgm/video stuff for a bit today and make sure it's not caused by the theme. It very well could be i haven't tested that very much, it's not very complex so i just assumed it works properly after testing it. When I did the initial test of it I wasted a hour or so trying to figure out why the sound wouldn't mute when the global setting was disabled...it was the video the whole time 😅. The platform video I had set had some sweet synth music and i didnt even realize the bgm WAS off, the music was coming from the platform video. I'll still make sure

Hope you get your lb all fixed up soon

Confirmed the video snap playback  and audio seems to only be an issue with this theme. I am also missing clear logos for platforms and platform category's for some reason as well. The BG music isnt your theme though that is just launchbox being weird right now

I spent a few hours last night testing the bgm and video stuff. BGM does indeed mute when disabled, i also added a timer to the platform video so it doesn't play too quickly. I tested it in and out, it was working on my end. I didn't look too much into the snaps, is it only the gameplay snaps that are messed up? or does it do that in the platform view as well? All game lists use "selected item video", that one should work there isnt much you can do with it. I'll still do some more testing today, i have some logic tied to some of the videos, maybe its off or something. Is there any way you can explain in more detail whats going on with the videos? Does the video not play? its just black area? is it all glitched out?  muted? Let's zero in on the video issue and see whats going on, maybe i can isolate it.

Sorry about the clear logos, that was my fault. I changed it to read from the theme folder (instead of launchbox) and that wasn't a bright thing to do. Some of the icons are black in there so it hides them, or just doesn't display them because they aren't there. I changed it back last night when i noticed it, it will be available in the next update along with a few other fixes.

If anybody else is having video/bgm problems with this theme please post your issues in the comments, I'll do my best to get it fixed up asap. If anybody else can confirm it's working on your end it's helpful as well, process of elimination.

Hey, thanks for following up and for all the work you’ve been putting into testing the theme!

To clarify on my end: the video snaps simply aren’t playing at all in the game list view. It’s not showing a black screen, it’s just as if no video is being triggered, the space remains sblank with no playback and no audio its like I dont have a video available for that game. This is specifically happening with the gameplay video snaps; platform videos themselves seem fine.

So far I’ve noticed:

  • Game list view → no gameplay snap video loads or plays (not black, just nothing playing).
  • Platform view → platform videos do still play normally.

Hopefully that helps narrow things down.

It does indeed help quite a bit, that sounds like I have some logic messed up somewhere. I re-did how the covers are structured in this, I did it in a sloppy way back then so I improved the way its handled this time. I try my best to not add a 2nd video element for regions, but sometimes it can't be avoided. PSX is a example of that. When I do that I have to collapse one, I might have some of the logic wrong making those not pop up like they should. I'll dive into that and see whats going on, see if I can replicate it. I should note that every snap starts collapsed, it becomes visible after the box art fades away via a timer. This could also be the issue. It's weird i just tested it for a bit and my snaps and everything work fine, timer seems ok, sound plays.

Do you use the default global settings? Need to copy your settings for testing. let me know which ones you disabled.

Also, sorry i don't mean to use you as a test dummy first thing in the morning. But can you enter any of the game lists that dont have a theme yet so the default theme triggers, and see if the snaps work there? That one has no logic, it should play with no issue.

Testing is difficult because everybody has different media, setups, games, etc. Thanks for all the help testing, even with a borked setup.

No worries at all, happy to help test! I’m pretty sure I’m just using the default global settings, but I can post my settings here if it helps. I can also share logs if that would be useful for troubleshooting.

I did try entering a game list that falls back to the default theme, and the snaps work fine there with both video and sound—so it seems to be specific to the custom theme setup. Let me know if posting my settings/screens would make things easier on your end!

Man that video was really helpful. It's crazy how different other peoples builds can be, you have alot of games, and way more platforms than i do. Seeing that wonderswan got me excited to get started on that one day. Seems like its been narrowed down enough, if it works on default theme means its a video logic problem in the game list views. You got the regions filled out right? You know what, it doesn't matter, it should default to USA when no region is found anyway. It bothers me alot that it works fine on my end, but not on yours. I can't think of a reason why it would do that, bothers me. I'll have to go through each view, sucks a little bit but I can't have it not working as intended.

Thanks man for making that video, im sure it was a hassle. Most people just grab this and run, they don't even comment! And here you are making a whole ass video, i owe ya one. I'm gonna go redo the game list video grids i guess...Im 9 platforms deep lol, i gotta fix them all more than likely...i've been copy pasting those grids.

OK Vahn, I uploaded a new version with different video snap logic (v2.05). I didn't redo the grids yet because they all look correct. i'd hate to rip them apart when the issue is something simple, like the logic. That new version has video start visible, hopefully that will solve your issue. If not, I'll redo the logic entirely. And if that fails, i will then consider redoing the grids.

Before you test it, will you open Launchbox, go to settings > video playback > make sure you have it set to WMP. Just to be safe

I can make a video if it helps also showing different systems and how they present themselves. My collection spans at least 20 consoles and a retro achievements playlist. Let me know any specifics you are worried about or need to check out and id be glad to do it. Im the type of person that just needs some direction in which to go :D. Settings and specific options can be provided and tested if you give me a heads up.

Hey King,

Sorry for the late reply! Honestly, it’s no problem I’m happy to help. Video game collecting is one of my biggest hobbies, so having everything organized and displayed with style is really important to me. Plus, I can see how much work you’ve been putting into this, all while I’m sure you’ve got a full-time job or at least a life outside of LaunchBox, lol. I’m more than happy to pitch in! That’s also why I became a patron I know how hard it is to create things, and I like showing support for projects I think are worth it. Besides, I kind of do this stuff for a living, haha.

Anyway, I just tested it: gameplay snaps are working, but only with WMP playback FFMPEG isn’t working for me. So no need to redo the grids! Thanks for keeping such an open line of communication and for the quick fixes, it’s much appreciated. The only other thing I’ve noticed is that I’m still not getting sound from the console videos. Not a huge deal I can just drop in some neat synth music for browsing but figured it was worth mentioning.

I was going to dm you yesterday about the video issue, to see if they were working for you. Donnel will get around to making a video at some point, but if you want to make one too that also cool. I'll post the videos at the top with donells. I still dont have emumovies so I can't really make a quality video yet. You guys both have been very helpful, I am grateful. Testing the game list menus and looking for bugs is always helpful, they have the most moving parts. The settings i gave a decent testing, but still feel like i might have missed some logic somewhere, if you see anything out of place with the global settings def comment and let me know. Anything you see thats crooked, misaligned, missing, etc. Report it and I'll do my best to fix it up.

This is great news, I was worried that simple fix wasn't gonna do much for you. I mean't to tell you about WMP yesterday morning, i assumed you already changed it. I actually tested with both, WMP/FFmpeg both worked for me. WMP was better though. I am relieved I dont have to redo the grids, I'll look into the sound thing today and make sure it's working ok. I have some logic pertaining to IF a bgm is playing, that might be incorrect.

You have been a supporter from the start Vahn, your always the first to subscribe. You were there the entire time i was tinkering with Nostalgic Memories, most of the fragments, and now for this. Your are good friend, great tester, and a loyal supporter. Thank you. I put all your requests on a higher priority level. At the end of the day I don't make a whole lot on there, it's purely just for coffee and food. I do this because I love the games, as much as you guys do. They remind me of a simpler time, a time long past. After I get the lil one on the bus for school, I'll look into the sound issue see if I've made any mistakes in the logic. Then back to working on the game list views

Of course, man! No worries at all. I really appreciate everything you do for this little hobby of ours  I know a lot of others feel the same. Thanks for always taking the time with my requests, it really means a lot! But honestly, don’t ever feel like you have to  just do whatever you’re comfortable with. This is a free project we’re all lucky to enjoy, and I appreciate it no matter what. I’m excited for all the future updates and fixes  I saw the new views on Patron and they’re looking great!

After Vahn65 mentioned the new views on patreon above i wanted to see them myself and they are coming together well. I understand your frustration with the style of the PS2 theme case putting the big squeeze on the snaps. Two ideas i came up with looking at the view was either

1. Sacrifice the case and just include the snap with the extra features although this may lose some of the look it doesn't run the risk of looking enlarged or skinny.

2. If I'm understanding the theme correctly if its possible just using the name of the platform and labels as if the case was invisible or nonexistent.

Each update is proving to be making huge strides in progress so don't get discouraged. You got this B|.

Thanks man, I've been putting in alot of hours lately now that my son's gone all day at school. I really should be taking more breaks and gaming in between but this is what I want to do right now, so I'm doing it haha. I won't overwork myself this time, and I won't feel obligated to post on Patreon everyday like i did before. Just wanted to show the new views. Think you guys will like them, the photos don't do it a bit of justice. The screenshots look like its the same old DS theme but I assure you its not. The top/bottom screen is fully interactable, some with custom options others just with metadata. I added support for the official NDS icons, DSi supports them as well AND the animated ones. DS has like 8 color themes you can use for the UI on the actual DS. DSi has several color choices, and a really cool intractable bottom screen now. It also has several color choices for the UI as well as the device, but i think i have to match up the color shades for the UI a bit, colors are a bit off from the top screen. Excited to show that one. I'll prolly do 3DS when I'm done with DSi since it's the last dual screen on the list.

Thanks zyute, it's always nice to hear that people enjoy all the hard work I put into these. My frustrations with the case have subsided, there is only one solution really aside from having somebody make me custom case inlays. I'm going to have to use solution 1 and exclude the case insides for those platforms with dvd style cases and widescreen snaps. PS2 i might let slide, its not a fancy bios theme and really the case is all thats going for it. Also 4:3 snaps are available for it, right now it squashes the video a bit, but it's not too bad even with 16:9 snaps. To be honest i may come back later and widen it lol, it bothers me sometimes. I'll finish it as it is and we can decide later.

Of course! glad to hear you're not overworking yourself, be sure to pace yourself and take breaks and make sure to get some gaming in where you can haha. Once again truly appreciate the hard work and the quality of the work

I love the new views for DS and 3DS! I mean I have been loving all the updates thus far haha. I just found sometime to do some testing! Only issues I have noticed at least on my end is video snaps not playing for 3DS and DS. Everything else is working great! Awesome work and great update!

I'll take a look at that, I might have (out of habit) set those to be collapsed by default instead of visible again.

You were right, I had some still using that old method that your pc doesn't like. It was present in NDS, DSi, and 3DS. My fault, may have forgotten to change it for DS and when I copied it to use as a base for dsi/3ds. It copied the bug with it. It's hard for me to catch that one, it works either way for me. Thanks for reporting it, I just got done re-uploading v2.11.1 with the fixes for that. Redownload it (it will say its v2.11 but it has the fixes in it) and you should be good to go hopefully. If not let me know and I'll dive a bit deeper into it.
