  1. the left flipper button furthest away is acting like the mouse button, just fyi. thanks
  2. thanks - switch is all the way to the right- TS buttons do not produce characters on docs.
  3. Just to be clear: I’m still not up and running again. I just meant that I placed that controller config in the folder the first time around and all just worked: I never had to configure/map anything (I’m assuming that’s what that config file did). sorry I was unclear. james thanks everyone- I was in florida for two weeks- I’m back now and will try this tomorrow. Hopefully it’s just a matter of reconfigging the tankstick and I’ll be set. gulp. Lol. happy new year everyone! james Hi all: I finally had a chance to get back at this... I start GT, hit TAB and then enter in the keyboard. Then I try to use the joystick or buttons to assign a command: nothing. Again, the mouse moves the pointer and left flipper button acts as the mouse left button. Nothing else. ugh. thanks again james
  4. Ok guys, can you take a quick look at this, before I mess things up, please? https://support.xgaming.com/support/solutions/articles/12000003090-x-arcade-programming-guide This is essentially telling me to set things up (in MAME, in my case) as we're discussing, for each emulator I care to run, correct? Just want to be sure, thanks! James
  5. Ok I will try the re-mapping when I return home from work. Question: when all was “working” with the tankstick (recall that I never initially mapped it, I just added that config file to the mame folder) why would my connected mouse and keyboard disrupt my game (the mouse would cause the player to swing, for exp, and I could pause with game with “P” on the keyboard). Wouldn’t mame just “see” the arcade stick for operation, if properly set up/mapped? I realize the tank-stick just acts like a keyboard, but I thought it would override another keyboard when properly set up. I would love to program a “pause” right on the tankstick, btw. thanks again James

  7. Thanks- I think I have a fundamentally flawed idea of what/how I’m configuring things. I also have a wireless keyboard connected. So when I go to configure this after hitting “tab” how do I know/accomplish configuring the arcade stick and not the keyboard?! prolly something obvious I’m missing, sorry. Am I just selecting a command and then hitting the arcade stick? Like selecting “left” and the.tapping the joystick left? that’s easy enough, but then knowing what buttons to assign to what command would be a mess for me. I’m so pissed this got messed up- everything was fine for months. I’m really concerned that I’m going to make things worse by trying to map the controller, honestly. thanks James

  9. Thanks all: I can dig into the remapping, but the ONLY stroke of “genius” (really, luck, lol) I had in this entire operation was - somewhere- finding another “XArcade” controller config file (I’m certain it was on the xarcade site), dropping into the mame controller config folder and everything just worked, straightaway. I checked and I can still see that file in there, I even cut it out and re-pasted it. I’m going to try that notepad idea later. As mentioned, once that is open and I’m in the field, all the buttons should produce letters. I’m fully expecting that it will- again, the trackball moves the pointer and the flipper button will select an item in the LB menu or mame menu, but nothing will work inside a game. this stuff is just so far above my head- Iniust have zero experience and when things go wrong I’m really stuck for what I’m sure is a ten second fix for anyone even semi-learned with this stuff. thanks james
  10. Anyone else with thoughts? So frustrating, I use the trackball and button on the xarcade to select a game on the launch screen, then, once inside the game/mame, nothing. This has got to be an easy fix, right? Something I have to change in the mame menu or folder? thanks again- it’s a shame, I do not TOUCH this thing just for this reason, I just select and play games. I have no clue wtf happened! james
  11. Good thought, thanks- I did try opening other games and the controller would not work at all with them, either.
  12. Hi all, By no means am I anything beyond an emu or LB novice so any help would be greatly appreciated. Everything was working fine, I only use MAME and with that, 98% of the time, for Golden Tee. I came down today to find my CPU off. Turned it on, did some software updates, and that's when things went sideways. I immediately noticed that the tankstick was not working with GT upon start up. I could hit "TAB" on the wireless keyboard, get into the game menu and use the trackball to scroll and the "pinball" button to select menu items, but it won't do a thing during game play. I'm pretty bad with this stuff, I tried to go into the "OPTIONS" on the LB home screen, then controllers/game pad, but nothing, I see a "refresh" screen with nothing in it. Is this something obvious I'm missing? My usb connections were a bit loose months back, causing issues, but they are firmly in place, and again, I can see the ball and buttons are connected by moving the pointer arrow on the screen and using the button to select. Any help would be fantastic! Thanks James
  13. Went looking: the sound sure does sound like windows 10 “background” and/or “foreground” the buttons stop working and will not return PRECISELY when the sound comes on. for a layman like me, this is nuts! Never happened before in the last month!
  14. Hi all: well, after much help from folks on this forum, I finally got mame/lb working about a month ago. now, out of nowhere, when I start a game of golden tee (99% of what I play) the controller will work fine, until “x” hole, when the top 3 ledt buttons will just stop working! Trackball buttons work. “Pinball” buttons work. if I restart the buttons will work again and then, at some point, poof! Bizarro. checked with a couple other games: same thing. This just started recently. I shoulf mention I hear a distinct 3 note “tone” RIGHT when it happens: kinda sounds like a windows tone I cannot quite recognize. i’m so terrible at this stuff: this is the last thing I needed- I’m a big Brewers fan and a bunch of buds are coming over for the game and some GT: just figures! any help anyone can lend would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! thanks james
  15. Well...Kondorito is a hero. I won’t bore with the details- as I’m still not sure what I did wrong, where, how many times, but he hopped on and has me running. In my defense he came onto a mess that had just gotten really bad as I was grasping at straws and throwing darts. I wiped everything out mulitple times but hadn’t done so before he walked into my dumpster fire. He used the same rom 193 set and mame d-load I had and was failing with...I think he did, anyway. Maybe he can step in for a sec and explain, but in my feeble mind, I was placing the roms in the mame folder’s rom folder and then thy banging of thy head against the wall commenced. I believe I just had the roms in the wrong spot- SOMEHOW!!! I was able to get my X Arcade stick working- by the skin of my teeth, lmao. Thanks for everyone’s patience and help- Golden Tee 06/Complete runs perfect, as far as I can tell.
  16. Sure (re the mame exe matching the rom set), I just cannot necessarily- easily enough for me, anyway- find a perfectly matched set. I sure would like to think 193 would be ok with 201. Ok, so thanks- how do I get the correct bios files? I cannot believe I haven't heard or read about this yet- perhaps this will FINALLY solve my problem, lol. James
  17. hmmmm...bios files, lol. Right now I just have the roms sets and the latest version of mame exe. I do think I have split versions of both rom sets. Thanks James
  18. rom sets are the expected 59 gigs. Are you telling me that I really need the EXACT MAME 185 or MAME 193 to run those respective ROM sets? All I have heard is that it doesn't matter, so long as your MAME version is reasonably close to your ROM set. I do have the rom set in the mame rom folder, btw. Thanks James
  19. Now I’ve downloaded both a 185 and 193 set and get the same thing.
  20. There are really none available to launch- with the exception of 10 yard fight and about FIVE others, lol- when I attempt it will say “one or more roms or chds are missing”. james
  21. thanks- FINALLY got around to trying this- long story- no change. James
  22. 1. Check. I have a "MAME" folder. 2. Check, mostly. I have the 201 version of MAME extracted, and BOTH a 185 and 193 version of the ROM set (I grabbed the former version after fearing I may have had a corrupted/unworkable version of the latter). Same result with both. 3. Check. All the files have been copied into the MAME (or MAMEUI) ROMS folder, zipped. Just the files, not even their folder. 4. Thank you, I will try just that- placing the ini file where the exe file is. 5. Got it. Thanks so much, I will give it a shot when I get home. Thanks for the time- knocking off stuff off a check list works, many times. I will return... James
  23. Thanks a ton. No, I never did. I am likely trying to over-simplify something that is already pretty simple, lol. Is my understanding that if I want to "skip" the command line method, I simply need to right click the mame app and creatE a shortcut from the from the pop up menu? I wish I was home right now. Thanks James
  24. This entire process has really made me look (and feel) like a fool. It simply cannot be this difficult, nor I, this ignorant. I feel like there's something fundamentally wrong with my arrangement/methodology that is forbidding success. I'm at work now, but I really don't know how much more time, energy, and sanity I have left for this. I know it must be driving those trying to help crazy too, so my apologies. Following ETA's video STEP BY STEP and having nothing is infuriating- ditto for Lordmonkus' tutorial. Honestly, I cannot recall anything that has caused me this much difficulty. James
