  1. I don't know how to even navigate to the mame folder through the command line, lol. I tried the shortcut methodology, but this is what I see after "properties" : where do I add the "sapce" -cc ? Miffed. James
  2. thanks- I tried your tutorial at least twice: between the creation of the ini file, the use of the notebook, and changing of path names, etc, I'm sure I'm sure I'm just jacking something up, somewhere. This just seems so straightforward: download mame ui, place roms in mameui ROM folder. Done. In the video, he doesn't even go to "options" to point to the folder where he put his roms...at least it's not depicted in the video, anyway. He just plays the simpsons, all in the space of about 4 mins, lmao. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=youtube+eta+prime+mame&view=detail&mid=F05A114461400CAF1BC6F05A114461400CAF1BC6&FORM=VIRE
  3. I thought I may have not been placing the ROM set in the mameui "ROM" folder, but I was. I started over entirely and I got the same result. I would pay someone $100 to spend the 5-10 minutes to set this up. James
  4. Is there something wrong with the nature of the MAME rom set I'm downloading? Split? Merged? I simply baffled that this still isn't working. Do I need to modify something in the "ini" folder? Grasping at straws, here. Thanks James
  5. Well, I'm back from a one week vacation to Cali- and disappointed as ever. Downloaded ROM set 185 off archive.org and the same issue. Virtually zero working games. I'm so gutted at this point. I see people set this up in 3 minutes and I have nothing...after 3 weeks. Unreal. James
  6. is "merged' vs "non merged" a significant difference for me?
  7. And I don't need to / does it help me...to have the roms in the MAEUI roms folder? Again, that's what ETA Prime did in his video and he able to play them right away.
  8. Refreshed. Unchanged. From the outset I questioned my ROM set as this process just seemed too straightforward to have such terrible results. It was NOT easy for a noob like me to find 193, never mind 200, given the new, ankle-grabbing rom landscape. Do I take a shot on another 60 gig download? I also wonder if I just should have started with NES and SNES rom sets...but I guess they are all just an emulator and a set of roms in the end. I hope I have not wasted the last 2 days jkn around all the while with a lead ballon of a rom set.
  9. Should I be going under "file' and "auditing" or "refreshing"? When I click "working" by the way, I see all the games show, but they are all in black, of course. Could there be an issue with this being on my second internal SSD? File privileges in windows? Just hoping for something, anywhere.
  10. You're right, it is in green and I did get IT to work yday and today. And that's it, lol. Also understand that the list you see is about a couple hundred lines long- at most. there may be 10 other bizarre titles in green, also.
  11. If I click "working" there are the games...all in black.
  12. Ok so here's the path I assigned...and then bizarre-town starts: it outputs a screen littered with "machines" I see no games...
  13. here's a pic of the mameui folder and its contents...
  14. Feel free to laugh, but I deleted MAMEUI- I didn't. I'll get the pic. But really, especially for me, would it just be easier to get MAMEUI WORKING at some point and then just load it into LB rather than Retro? Just a question. I'll change that rom folder now. James
  15. Sure, thanks for the help. Please see the pics. I'm trying to get the Arcade Stick working in Arch. I finally gave up and just plugged in a ps4 controller. Honestly, I'm not terribly impressed with Arch, thus far. Launchbox and Emu Station look much more elegant and user-friendly. I'm still trying to understand the attraction with it: simply that you can access multiple emulators for multiple systems? Don't most of the better emus pretty much run 99% of the games? Thanks so much for the help- I am absolutely flabbergasted that I have not got this working. James
  16. I just switched to my PS4 controller to control retorarch. I also watched ETA Prime's seemingly excellent tutorial. Same issues. This time I used his method to scan the ROMS folder I have. In his video, it scans the whole damn thing, finds all of his games of course, and places them nicely together. It scan mine and comes up with nothing. Go figure. Once again, another seemingly simple process that is just not working. Any ideas? Thanks James
  17. here we go lol. Followed the directions to the letter- by the way, I'm using my Arcade stick for the controller and I can only use the joystick for direction- none of the buttons work to "confirm" or "go back" so I"m using my mouse. Anyway, directed the file browser to my rom folder. Loaded the mame emulator, went to load my ROMS...and they are all zip files. Please: 1. How do I get my X Stick working? 2. How do I get this to see my games and not my files? I do NOT unzip the files still, correct? Thanks James
  18. Ok 2:53 CST ...start the clock, lol. EDIT: Was at work and had to stop. Starting now at 6:28, lol. James
  19. Thanks- I’m already up to ten (hours) so what’s another hour, lol? I’m smarter than I’m coming across in these posts- I have followed eta prime’s mameui tutorial to a tee and it just doesn’t seem to matter. guess I’ll give retroarch a shot now. thanks James
  20. At what point do I start suspecting my ROM set? I just don’t know what to do at this point. PLACE ROMS (zipped) in MAMEUI ROMS folder Open MAMEUI how complicated can this be? is having my roms and mameui on a separate (internal) ssd an issue? desparate. thanks james
  21. At what point do I start suspecting my ROM set? I just don’t know what to do at this point. PLACE ROMS (zipped) in MAMEUI ROMS folder Open MAMEUI audit how complicated can this be? Is it an issue that I have my ROMS and MAMEUI on the new, seperate, 512gig ssd I installed? Drive D? trying desperately to figure this out. thanks James
  22. The problem is there are no “games” in green. There are oddly-labeled “filenames” in green on the right but the center column are “machines” and yield nothing when clicked- even after clicking “working”. If you were sitting here it would be so much more clear how screwed I am lol. I’ve never had such an issue getting something going- never mind something that should take 5 minutes. what a nightmare. James
  23. Ok, thanks...I'm running out of gas here, there's only so many hours one can spend with zero success. So I downloaded "your" version of mameui. I took my romset and moved it into the "roms' folder of your mameui. I then opened the app and saw this...can you tell what is next before I mess something up, please? Again, in the tutorial, he clearly simply adds the roms to the mameui roms folder, opens the app, and begins playing the games. Thanks so much, just frustrated as hell right now James
  24. this is becoming a bit maddening. I could not find mameui- at least not somewhere where I felt safe downloading it- so I downloaded mame .193 Was a bear to get working at all. Kept getting "Fatal error: Fatal error: Too many live texture instances" googled and found to switch audio from "auto" to "gdi" ...that solved that problem but now every game I pick reads that it's not working or cannot find the rom. This really cannot be this difficult. Multiple tutorials have it up and running in under 10 minutes. ugh. James
  25. I moved that mameini file out into the folder. Still nothing. I swear at first the games were at least labeled/colored purple as "available' even though it would still crash when selected. One of you guys would have this working in 5 minutes, lmao. James
