@luk 1) if you click on a config and then click the Additional Configuration button on the middle-right and then click the cog icon, you can add in custom parameters just like in the "advanced" section, but for a specific game. This can only be saved permanently with custom configs, however, because otherwise the parameters will just be removed as soon as you change games. 2) I'm not sure on this one. There might be, but I haven't found it if so. Sounds like a good idea though.

    1) ok I didn't see that..testing now, thanks so much! ;)

    2) yeah, they've put a configurable option on the todo list :)

  2. @Zombeaver this tutorial is very useful, thanks! ?

I can't say which is better, WinUAE or FS-UAE...I think they're very different and for different purposes, and maybe FS-UAE is better for LaunchBox.

I have 2 questions about FS-UAE, and I hope someone can help me:

    1)

is there a way to set custom action inputs for controller different for different games?
I usually use "advanced" settings and in this case I'm using:
    XInput_Controller_button_1 = action_key_return
It works fine but in this way all the games have this setting. Is there any way to set it for different games?

    2)

is there any way to automatically pause the emulation opening FS-UAE Menu (action_menu) ?

    Thanks so much, bye

  3. I was about to ask pretty much the same thing so I think we can go on here instead of a new post.

    That's my problem:

I usually set things up using Launchbox in desktop mode (not BigBox)...recently I've mapped in LaunchBox some controller key combinations to exit game (select+start) and it works fine (i didn't use any script, just LB options).

Now I was testing Big Box and I noticed that my mapping doesn't work there. I thought Big Box would use the same mapping of LaunchBox but I was wrong.

I've looked into Big Box controller mapping but the options are for the interface itself and not fot the games (there's "Exit" that quit BigBox, but not "Exit Game" like in LaunchBox).

So I suppose maybe the solution could be a script.

Can someone please help me? I don't know how to do it. The mapping I want is "Select+Start" (or "Back+Start" or "Button7+Button8")

    thanks so much

  4. I've used MAME a lot in the past but I never really cared about understanding how it works...I just found some roms and played what was working without knowing which core or MAME version I was using.

I'm trying to understand a bit more now and I'm a bit confused...this is what I got so far:

MAME can run most of all roms, but for some kind of roms, FinalBurn could be better.

If I got everything right, the categories should be:

    1. CPS1
    2. CPS2
    3. CPS3
    4. Neo Geo MVS
    5. all the remaining ROMS

So for roms 1-4 I should use FinalBurn and for 5 I should use MAME.

So the main question is: how can I separate each rom in the proper category? In the scenario where I find 1 rom in my HD, how can I know what kid of rom is that? Of course I know I could search online for each game but we're talking about thousands of games and that would crazy.

I've trying using some software like clrmamepro and Lightspeed, but I'm not sure they can help with my problem and anyway I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it's not working.

Maybe LaunchBox automatic playlists could help, but it will only work with LaunchBox, and I wanted to separate them in folders before importing them.

    Other misc questions:

I've seen there's more versions of MAME...which one is the "official" one? I suppose it is mamedev.org but I'm not even 100% sure :D

I've read that MAME is often updated, and sometimes you need to update your rom set. I don't think this is absolutely mandatory, but it makes me wonder about which is the "official" MAME Rom set..if there's one or not...that's because If i search online I find many different sets and I have no idea for what version of MAME they're supposed to be and/or if they're an "official" set or maybe a private collection, etc

Thanks in advance for your help!! :)

  5. Hi, I'm importing some ScummVM games in LaunchBox and I'm trying to understand which way is better: the included ScummVM, or RetroArch.

I tried both and they both work fine (I used the epicfail launcher).

If I could, I'd like to use RetroArch for all platforms but I have 1 problem....ScummVM games are better with mouse and keyobard but I'm trying to use it with the gamepad controller only.

It works fine, but sometimes I need the keyboard anyway (i.e. when I need to write the save game name) so I'm wondering if there's some virtual onscreen keyboard that I can use. The only thing I've found is the "oncreen overlay" where i can load some keyboard presets...I see the keyboard, but it's only an image...i cannot use it as a keyboard.

So my question is: is there any "virtual keyboard" for RetroArch I can use?

    Thanks so much bye :)

p.s. I did post it in the wrong forum section so I just moved it here now, sorry :)

  6. @fromlostdays thanks so much!! this works fine (both command line and plugin)...and of course yes I need to figure out how to sort them but I think the bigger problem I had is fixed! :)

Now I just need to understand why I don't have any MAME core in the Associated Platforms list even if I have them in RetroArch.

P.s. Thanks for teaching me a new word I didn't know (lagniappe) as well :D :D

@Chris Kant thanks to you too but I think an alternate emulator  instance would be a bit more messy most of all cause I suppose I'm gonna need more of them :D

  7. Hi, I'm new at the forum (and also at LaunchBox). ?

I'm testing the free version of LaunchBox on Windows 10 and using RetroArch as emulator (I was already using it so all my games and stuff are there and I'd love to keep it).

I'm trying to understand if (and how) i can use different Associated Platforms for different games and not just 1 for all the games in the same category.

RetroArch has this feature and this is very useful most of all with arcade games that sometimes need different emulators.

As I said I'm using LaunchBox with RetroArch so I supposed it would use RetroArch settings where I already had this setup, but I think it doesn't work this way.

Can you please help me? Thanks so much bye

    Luk :)
