  1. Hi Lordmonkus, long time no see, he he Thanks for the filling in. Although, as I previously stated, I'm currently tackling the 2nd method, I'll move to the 1st one only if I miserably fail at this. Aaaand, I've already hit a wall. Namely, I don't know what my .bat file should be named. Windows' notepad doesn't even give me the choice to save the document as a .bat, I only get to choose .txt or "all files" or something. Do I just type .bat and it is a .bat?
  2. Thanks guys for your replies. I'm a bit afraid I could mess up my game if I alter the game's .ini file as you said IainSA and I might not be able to make the game work anymore, since I'm kind of a newbie at PC gaming (aside from emulators), so I think I'm gonna try neil9000's bat trick instead, and if I really can't make it work I suppose I'll tackle the first method. There's some kind of manual with GZDoom where it says at some point the following: "Open your notepad, and type the following: @echo off start zandronum.exe -file brutalv21.pk3 Now go to "Save As.." and save the file as a .bat file instead of a .txt. Put it inside the sourceport folder, and you got an executable to always run the sourceport with Brutal Doom. This method can also be used to run multiple files (such as maps and addons) by using multiple -file commands separated by commas. In this example, you can run Brutal Doom with Doom 2 Reloaded and the Doom Metal Volume 5 mod. @echo off start zandronum.exe -file brutalv21.pk3 -file d2reload.wad -file DoomMetalVol5.wad Always make sure the files are in the same folder, file names are correct, and you are specifying the extension of the files." Do I really have to type "@echo off"? I don't see it in that .bat file you've got there neil9000. I suppose since my source port isn't zandronum but GZDoom I write that instead in my .bat file? I also suppose I'll have to make a 2nd .bat file to start Doom II in gory mode then? I also wish it would start with the PSOne music, but the file's extension is .WAD... Is a .bat file case sensitive? Sooo, my 1st .bat file would have to be as follows then (without the quotes)? "@echo off start gzdoom.exe -file brutalv21.pk3 -file DOOM.WAD -file PSXMUSIC.WAD" and the 2nd (to launch Doom II in gory mode) would be: "@echo off start gzdoom.exe -file brutalv21.pk3 -file DOOM2.WAD -file PSXMUSIC.WAD" The guy who wrote the manual seems to follow this order: source port name->mod name->game (or chapter) name->music name, so I guess I have to follow this order also then? Or can you write the elements in a .bat file in no particular order?
  3. Hi everyone, So, I think the title is straightforward enough, I don't know how to start Doom (which in my case is the sourceport called GZDoom) in Launchbox with the brutal doom mod (and the mod to have the PS1 OST) enabled. Apparently you start it by dragging and dropping the brutalv21.pk3 on the GZDoom executable, and fair enough, it works on my PC, although it's cumbersome to start Brutal Doom this way, but from Launchbox? Nah, I just get a pop up window that asks me if I would like to launch Doom or Doom II, and they're always the base versions (or "vanilla" versions if you will), not brutal doom, even though the brutal doom .pk3 is in the folder where GZDoom .exe is. I am aware of the shortcutting to the sourceport's executable, right-clicking "properties" and adding the "brutalv21.pk3" target, as explained here https://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom/tutorials/starting-the-mod-on-windows-and-linux I tried it, but when I click "apply" I'm told the path is not valid. Any help would be appreciated.
  4. Yes I confirm it. Thanks for the heads up. -I am in fact running LB/BB as Admin, I had to set it that way, otherwise Windows Firewall gave me hell and wouldn't let me use Supermodel (Sega Model 3 emulator) as it had decided it was a supposedly dangerous software. -I'll make sure Avast is not the cause of this too. -Could it be due to the fact I mistakenly installed Dolphin on C:\ while the GC/Wii ISOs are on E:\? -Don't know what to do about that -I somehow doubt it as Dolphin runs flawlessly outside of LB. Even if that's the case, I don't know what to do about that either. Thanks for your help!
  5. Hi everyone, I've been having this problem ever since I started using Launchbox a year ago: when using the Dolphin emulator to play GameCube and Wii games, as the title suggests, a window titled "Question" pops up and it says "IOS_FS: Failed to rename temporary FST file". The game then usually starts after I press "OK" (sometimes I have to click a couple of times), albeit windowed ofc, as is inconveniently always the case with the Dolphin emulator. But I always get this annoying message starting the emulator in Launchbox, and ONLY in Launchbox. When I start Dolphin (it's the standalone version I'm talking about btw, not the RetroArch core) normally, i.e. not from within Launchbox, I never get this error message. But It's always bugging me in LB when starting Dolphin, be it for a Gamecube game or a Wii game I also never get this message with any other emulator, be it started from within Launchbox or not. The PS2 emulator for example, opens and closes fine, even in LB. I don't understand the meaning of this, what "FST" refers to, or "IOS_FS". I'm playing on a Windows 7 64-bit PC by the way, not some Apple computer running on IOS or w/e. Any help to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Edit: As I thought there was something odd when I started it again a couple minutes ago: something was missing. It only gave me the "IOS_FS: Failed to rename temporary FST file" error when it would usually give me another error after that, which I just got right now, so I'm adding the following. It then adds a window that says: "Question" (the name of the error window) "C:\Users\vincent\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Wii\title\00000001\00000002\data\play_rec.dat could not be opened! This may happen with improper permissions or use by another process" "Press Y to make another attempt" As it turns out, I have to click "ignore for this session", but I get a black screen, and Dolphin doesn't respond anymore, if I try to shut it off I get the message "Dolphin has ceased to work" or something. I absolutely NEVER get this when using Dolphin outside of Launchbox!
  6. Thanks for your help with that too Koroth, it worked! Demul stays there for a little while, and I get the message "Demul doesn't respond" or w/e, but in the end it works. Turns out it was a lot easier to resolve this problem than the one with Model3 games, after all. But I certainly wouldn't have found the solution by myself. How the hell did you come up with that "-run=naomi -run=" stuff??? lol Say, since you seem to be so savvy with that emulator, you wouldn't happen to know the reason of that horrible distorted sound I (and many other people on the internet, apparently) get with Demul nowadays, by any chance? Some people say it's due to a lack of power of the PC used, but over 10 years ago I was using Demul (albeit with my DualShock 3, not 4), without any sound problem, and that PC was a lot less capable than the one I'm currently using for my emulation endeavors, so I very much doubt that's the reason.
  7. Thank you for your help (again). I'll try that. I understand your point of view on the matter, I have to admit that it doesn't look too cool to have a gazillion different versions for one game, but I finally managed to enable scanlines and bezels in MAME this summer, and I thought it would be better to have access to different versions of a game. For example I have Street Fighter II in widescreen without scanlines, or Street Fighter II with a nice realistic bezel and scanlines, some neo geo games with this bezel (with Art of Fighting), but the game screen needs resizing quite a bit to fit this bezel, and I can't be doing that all the time when I also have this bezel for all my NEO GEO games (with the blank screen), etc. And I didn't know (as a matter of fact still don't know) if it's possible to easily switch between the different versions of a game in Launchbox, or how it's done if possible, so yep, I just imported everything as different games. This way I'm almost sure not to miss out on anything
  8. I'm just gonna let that alone for the time being before I have a nervous breakdown, lol. For the most part It's working again the way it is with the path pointing to the Supermodel roms' folder, let's just leave it at that. But I do think Launchbox should be able to tell more MAME roms apart when we import our MAME set the first time, so I wouldn't have had to create a separate folder for Sega Model 3 games, Naomi games, Atomiswave games, etc. and import those games one by freakin' one. What a chore it was. And I'm not entirely done with it at that. Sega Rally 2 runs OK (some versions at least), but the cars have no sound, or something like a slight vacuum cleaner sound. Is it the same with you? I thought I'd just resort to playing the Dreamcast version but it runs way worse with Flycast (either standalone or in Retroarch), and I can't get Demul to run it... Speaking of Demul, let's see if I can get it to start the games from within Launchbox as Koroth said... Edit: [side note regarding Sega Rally 2] Unless you're someone who "has to have them all" (and that's OK) Well, I kinda have to now. The first time I imported my MAME full set in Launchbox, I had something like 4000-ish roms, a farcry from the 37571 roms found in my MAME folder. Now I know a good 2/3rd of those MAME roms are deemed "not working" (or "preliminary" as it is put in LB), but still, I was surprised, not to say shocked by the number of roms that had been left behind by LB. It proved to be a real problem when I tried to play some games that, for whatever reason, started just fine in MAME but didn't start at all from Launchbox, I didn't have any other version to run. So this summer I deleted it all, and re-imported my MAME full set, except this time I didn't tick any box during the importing process: all the roms, all the mahjong games (otherwise it's not even possible to have a full neo geo set, for example), all the slot machines (don't know how many of those are actually playable, though), all the non-working games, all the mature games (no change for that one though, haha )... To my surprise, it was not 35751 roms Launchbox imported, but something like 44000-ish roms. Go figure. I probably should have let LB import them the way it was suggested, i.e. clones as additional versions, but I didn't know if there would be an easy way to select which version of the game I would like to play in LB, so I imported all the clones as separate games.
  9. All right, I get that, but what I don't get is why the very same roms, when their path points to my MAME roms' folder, stop working when, when their path points to the Supermodel roms' folder I had created, they work fine. Right now I just tried again to change the path to the MAME roms' folder and it stopped working again...Gosh, I'll just leave it pointed to the Supermodel roms' folder. It's only what, 1,75GB after all.
  10. Funny that... what did the emulator expect? Right now I tried to change the path for Emergency Call Ambulance (Japan) which had stopped working ever since I did as Skoroth said, it was pointing to the rom found in MAME's folder and I changed it to the very same rom found in the Supermodel roms' folder, and it works again... Go figure.
  11. Thank you for your help Koroth. So, I decided to tackle one thing at a time and tried to resolve the Supermodel problem first (the easier stuff first, that's so unlike me, lol), aaand... it works. More or less. I now get this error message when launching some versions of some games. I never got these before. I know I probably shouldn't have a folder for my Model 3 roms aside from my MAME roms folder, but this is how I made it initially, and I dare not touch it again since a few days ago when I tried to change the path of some of these roms to point the emulator to the ones found in my MAME folder so I could get rid of that Supermodel roms' folder that's eating (a bit of) HDD space for nothing, Windows firewall woke up and gave me hell. Seriously I had to fight it like it was some skynet minion, it had decided to remove supermodel.exe on the account that it was supposedly dangerous and would not let me reinstall it. Stuff of a freakin' nightmare. Anyway, all these Model 3 roms used to work fine before, regardless of the fact they're in a different folder than MAME roms' folder, so I wonder why I get this all of a sudden. Mind you, I don't have all Model 3 roms in that separate folder, maybe it has something to do with it, but it was this way before when using the UI.exe and I never ran into this problem. Any suggestion?
  12. Hope this answers your query @ Headrush69 yes, these are standalone emulators. Some emulators, for whatever reason, work fine as standalone on my PC, but their equivalent in RetroArch don't, like Mesen or Dolphin. No, I haven't added any command line parameters, as you can probably see on these pics.
  13. Hi everyone, I've been encountering a problem with some emulators (namely Supermodel for Sega Model 3 games, MesenDeWin for NES games, and Demul for Naomi 2 games), and my problem is that when I launch these emulators, Launchbox doesn't launch the game but simply starts the emulator, I then have to select the game I wanna play, which is cumbersome and not practical at all, esp. in Demul where I have to squint to see which one of those tiny lines has the game I want. In Mesen it's worse, I have to double-click on the screen with the mouse to enable full screen, and I can't even quit the game by pressing escape, it pauses the game, so I have to double-click with the mouse again to enable windowed then press escape. I have no solution for this at all, so if anyone has one, I'd be glad to hear it.
  14. Does that custom URL have to be "http://www.steam/etc-profilename" for it to work, or can I just type my steam account's handle? Edit: damn, now Launchbox is asking for some API key...
  15. You wouldn't happen to have a 3D Box for the Dreamcast version by any chance?
  16. Thanks! I've run into yet another problem with Dreamcast games on Launchbox (with Flycast), with the ones that come in .img & .ccd, it seems Flycast can't launch them (thus LB can't either). I have PowerISO installed but it tells me the file extension is not supported, or something. Any idea?
  17. Hi, That has to be more than enough to run Demul. A few years back I used to run Demul without any sound issues at all, be it Naomi, Atomiswave, or Naomi 2, and I would run it with a PC that had much lower specs than the one I'm currently using for my emulation endeavors. My current PC for emulation has just an Intel Core Quad Q6600 @ 2,40GHz, 8 GB RAM, and an AMD Radeon HD 5700 series, and I still get to play pretty much everything I want, either in 1080p or 720p. Only Tekken 7 Fated Retribution runs really slowly, and some parts in some Wii games. Most of PS2 games are a no-go though. Even GTA3 runs like a slide show, lol I just finished playing me some VF Evolution with Demul, and I usually don't play Naomi 2 games as, as far as I know Demul is the only emulator capable of emulating Naomi 2, and I also get those pesky sound issues everyone talks about and seemingly nobody knows what to do about, that I didn't get back in the day (on much less capable hardware, I'm saying it again) Something must have changed in the way that emulator works, I don't know. But just a couple minutes ago I managed to diminish the frequency of those sound issues somewhat by enabling VSync, FYI. I've left the resolution on native (640x480), for the moment I least. It's probably better to leave it this way until I manage to resolve this distorted sound issue. What's driving me mad is that, as soon as I switch to window mode, the sound becomes normal... Go figure. If anyone here on Launchbox has a better idea as to how to tackle this problem, I can't wait to hear it.
  18. @ Lordmonkus & neil9000 thank you both for your help Although over here my files are .gdi, not .cdi files, I think I got it to work, merged and all. My only concern now is, when I make it to the end of CD (or is it GD) 1, how will I switch to disc 2, but I suppose it's not so much a problem that pertains to Launchbox as it does to Flycast.
  19. Use it from within file manager after I navigate to my shenmue folder... I think I need to make it clear that, not only am I using a french keyboard ('cause I'm french), I'm not too computer-savvy, so I'm not sure what you're talking about... lol?
  20. Yes I know ofc. When I said import all 3 files one after the other "add file" x3 I meant at the beginning
  21. Thanks for your reply. Err, if I use the search function found in the Windows "Start" menu and type .cdi, it finds one other Dreamcast game I have, that is indeed a .cdi (that I imported effortlessly as it is just one file), not Shenmue... But, hey, you say I can combine those 3 different .gdi files into one game AFTER Launchbox is done importing them? I'll try that, if you can give me the precise walkthrough... Edit: nah, no dice, LB still imports them as 3 different separate games, even after I tick that "combine" box. Waiting for help for how to merge them... Edit 2: got them merged. Let's see if it works. Edit 3: damn, now flycast is giving me a bios error... never had this prolem when running Naomi & Atomiswave games. Nevermind, this kind of problem can't be resolved in LB forums I suppose. Edit 4: OK, got this resolved. For whatever reason, Launchbox had imported a .link file, not .gdi... Go figure.
  22. Hi everyone, I've been trying to import Shenmue, and my version is comprised of 1 folder containing 3 folders each containing a bunch of files, including one that is a .gdi, which I believe is the executable for Dreamcast games (for the ones that come in .gdi that is), but for the life of me I can't find a way to import this game in Launchbox. If I select import file, and I import all 3 .gdi files one after the other ("Add file", "Add file", "Add file") at the beginning, even if I tick the "combine roms with matching titles into a single game" box toward the end, Launchbox shows me the 3 .gdi files on 3 different lines, and indeed imports 3 different Shenmue games (the 3 .gdi files), If I select import folder, Launchbox sees all the files in all 3 folders, and shows me at the end of the import process all those files, I didn't even bother to click "import" as I didn't want to have to delete 2 dozen files. I think it is worth noting that this Shenmue game is a folder containing 3 folders each containing a bunch of files, among which a .gdi file. Now I'm not too savvy when it comes to Dreamcast emulators (I plan on using Flycast btw, if that's important), but i read somewhere that it's important the .gdi file remains in a folder along the other files that pertain to it in order for the emulator to run properly, so even though I thought about having just 1 folder with all files of all 3 folders in it so Launchbox would import just 1 game, I didn't in the end. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  23. I saw your message after typing .xml at the end, and it seems to work fine. I was concerned at first I couldn't find where Launchbox had "launched" (Ha) my newly created platform "Examu Ex-Board", turns out it was at the very bottom, along with consoles, but it didn't take me long to figure out I could move it somewhere else. Launchbox is quite well designed. Also, that italian dude you link to has apparently typed the command line "--profile=yaddayadda" in other places like "associated platform", but I've typed it only in the box below "use custom comand line parameters" in "Emulation" (when you right-click and choose "edit" for a game), and it seems to be working all right. Well, if it wasn't for the text the mouse was hovering above that somehow gets caught when the game boots and stays there in the middle of the screen when the game is running that is, lol. But it's no big deal I think, just gotta make sure the mouse cursor doesn't stay on the text.
  24. Thank you very much for your reply. Hold on, I'm gonna try that... edit: FFS, I've just now realized we're indeed not stuck with the platforms in the drop-down menu and we can type entirely what we want...?! Geez. Still, it would've been cool to list more, since they have Taito Type X in there. But it's nice to see this, lol edit2: like I said I'm trying to import my TP games using the "import rom files" method, if it works I won't be bothering with the .txt file method. Yes I know about the .xml file stuff. Is it in "use custom command-line parameter" box we're supposed to type it? Like --profile=DaemonBrideExboard.xml then?
