Thanks for the tip. That setting in reSWAD preferences was checked. I’m not sure why it didn’t recognise the ps4 controller as Xbox in Retroarch but perhaps I’m not understanding the program well enough. I’ve deleted reWASD and ds4windows. I’ll try reSWAD again. Do you set new game pad config as a new game?
I did manage to get the Atari controller to work in Retroarch as a bluetooth game pad and save/configure the control. The trick was to set controls back to default so not to affect the other configured controllers. It worked alright but as there isn’t enough buttons to emulate the Xbox- controller for the various hot keys, so it’s not good for big box. Keyboard is needed.
Fun to use a joystick again but feels like we did it harder back then when compared to modern game pads.Make sure the controller profile you created is added to slot 1 of your controller (you have 4 slots). Appart from that I'm not sure what else to do...

Hmm I understand if the Atari controller is not recognised, it's quite uncommon. However I find it very strange that Retroarch wouldn't recognise your controller as Xbox360 controller, since it should be exactly the same as actually connecting a real 360 controller. Make sure this option is checked:

Thanks for the response.
Does reWASD need to be set up as an app within LaunchBox or is it a program that is installed and run in the background of Windows?
Also, my experience is, Retroarch automatically detects the controller that is connected to Windows. Do you need to turn any settings off in Retroarch? What i'm thinking is if Retroacrh is running, when i turn the Nes30 Pro controller on, it will automatically utilise the auto settings rather than what reWASD would apply.
reWASD is a software that runs in the background in Windows.
Retroarch will keep auto detecting but will recognise all your controllers as xbox360 controllers so button labels will remain consistent across all your controllers.

I don't know about modifying config files, but Retroarch hotkeys don't remap when switching controllers indeed, so here's what I've done:
Emulate all my controllers as xbox360 controllers and remap button appropriately using reWASD (I used Ds4windows but it started to be too limited at some point). This way controller buttons in Retroarch will remain consistent across all my controllers. You can also autodetect programs running with reWASD if for example while CEMU is running, you want to switch to a Dualshock 4 profile automatically if you have a gyro capable controller and want to use motion controls.
On top of that it wiil also allow you to navigate through BigBox with all controllers consistently (as long as you have enough buttons on the controller, and you can also use an autodetect remap with reWASD if needes), this was also something important to me.
Here's my controller list and all work perfectly like this in any emulator (Retoarch hotkeys are consistent) and BigBox:
2 DualSense BT
1 8bitdo M30 BT
1 8bitdo Arcade Stick BT
1 Exlene GameCube BT
1 Brawler 64 BT
I also have a Sinden Light Gun where I could also map Retoarch hotkeys to keyboard inputs also mapped on the gun, as Retroarch allows for a controller and a keyboard input mapping for hotkeys. I also managed to find a way to achieve some basic Bigbox navigation
The only controller I had to setup differently is my Dualshock 3 where I had to use the HidHideMini and Bluetooth drivers to be able to use pressure sensitive face buttons in PCSX2 and RPCS3 as it is the only way. I am not able to use BigBox with this one

Hi I have 100+ games installed in Vita3k, but Launchbox only imported about 80, is this expected? (The auto-import process is a bit annoying as it imports a lot of junk for the PS3 as well).

Hi Stevie,
Could You please upload this purple collections video alone? I would like to make my own collections video but i would like to change background color because i dont like the same background color in all the category videos (playlist, favorites, computers, arcade, etc.). I make my own videos with different background for categories and the collections is the only one i do not have.
thanks in advance
Hey mate any chance you could share those modified videos, I also don't like the sky blue background.
Thx

I love how the megabezel shaders look, but however it looks weird when it's applied over the mame arcade bezels. is there a way to fix this so it displays perfectly? Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. If you look closely, you can see megabezel is smaller, thus showing the default bezel from launchbox as well. How can I fix this so that I can keep megabezel while retaining the artwork for the bezels for the game?
You would have to first get rid of the outer frame, I think it's within the "Frame general" settings of the shader parameters in Retroarch, tweak the size or opacity. Then you would have to increase "non-integerscale %" to match the overlay bezels, but you will probably also have to adjust corner radius of the frame with the reflections and possibly screen curvature radius to match the bezel project artwork.
Once you're happy with your settings, use the "Save shader preset as" to save a new .slangp file that you can apply to other cores also.
It would make it easier and prettier if there was a version of the Bezle project overlay without those tv bezels and just the artwork.

Thanks, great plugin!

Is there a way to do that? Reason is because I'd like to move all vertical games to a separate sub-folder to create Retroarch content-directory settings for those, and this would allow me to easily select them and move them.

I get this issue with Launchbox as well, not sure what happened. Works fine from RA directly.

Green is the default colour for platforms that have not been setup in the theme yet, or the name of the platform is not the same as in the Community theme creator config, in the game list view this is also the default colours for non recognised platforms.
You would have to get the Colorful 4k CTC theme files and edit the theme yourself to add any missing platform you need and and link them with a specific colour. The files can be downloaded in the main Colorful 4k page in this forum.
Looks like the development of this theme is stopped, I had heard that @faeran was working on a new version a while back.

Is there a Windows 9x video and device image available?

It's been awhile since I've looked at this thread, but I thought I would pop in and update what has been working for me.
Originally I was using Dolphin through RetroArch and that was making it difficult. It seemed like RetroArch did not like me using multiple types of controllers with different button setups. Particularly the Gamecube controller, as it has it's own unique button placement. Now I use RetroArch for 99% of my systems; and for GameCube I manually install Dolphin from their website and add it to the Launchbox emulators myself. This allows me to configure a controller through Dolphin (separately from RetroArch) and it is remembered when launching a game through Launchbox. This way I am able to use my Gamecube PowerA controller specifically for Dolphin/GameCube and RetroArch can stay on an Xbox/Playstation controller type setup. Works great!
I did try to figure out ds4windows, but did not manage to get it to do what I wanted. I may take another crack at it sometime but I just thought I would share a simple solution that doesn't require learning or buying any new software. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
I have switched to reWASD since as it recognises all my controllers (Ds4Windows didn't) apart from the dualshock 3 where I have to use dshidmini with their BTdriver in order to use pressure sensitive face buttons in PCSX2, and was able to remap everything correctly as Xbox360 controllers (DualSense switches to PS mode directly when CEMU is opened to use gyro features). This allows for all controllers having buttons properly mapped, consistent mappings and hotkeys in all emulators, and consistent navigation in LB/BB.
Here's what I have remapped in reWASD as xbox360:
2 DualSense as general purpose controllers
An 8bitdo arcade stick
An 8bitdo M30 Megadrive/Saturn style controller
A Brawler 64
An Exlene GameCube controller
What i don't use in reWASD and Connor use to navigate BigBox (apart from the light gun as you can map keyboard inputs to it):
Sinden light gun mapped with Sinden software
1 Wiimote connected directly with CEMU
2 wiimotes connected with bluetooth passthrough in Dolphin.
Dualshock3 connected with Dshidmini in SXS driver mode

Hi,
Is it possible to install LaunchBox in one external drive and the emulators and the games into another external drive ?
Many thanks
As long as the drive letter of the HDD containing your roms remains consistent it should work just fine.
-
The folders containing the chd files have to be in the same folder as the roms in the zip format, so for example:
Roms\MAME\area51.zip
Roms\MAME\area51\area51.chd
I don't remember the exact file name for area51 but that will give you the idea.
CHDs are just a part of the game, you still launch a game with the zip files as non CHD games.

I have now many controllers and want to create badges for specific use cases, for example I now have pressure sensitive face buttons configured on PCSX2 with a Dualshock 3 controller and would like to easily recognise games in my PS2 collection that use pressure sensitivity in their gameplay using a custom badge.
I went ahead and used Gran Turismo 4 as my guinea pig, edited the game, created a new controller called Dualshock 3 (as it didn't exist yet) with pressure sensitivity as category, added a PNG logo (a pressure gauge) to LaunchBox/images/badges called PressureSensitivitySupport.png (took the Light Gun badge as example for the naming convention), however the badge doesn't show up under the game in LB.
Is this possible ? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong?
I wanted to extend this to other use cases , for example Wiimote with or without Nunchuk, currently it's just a hand badge for both (motion category), I was thinking of actually displaying or not the Nunchuk on the custom badge to make it clearer if it is required or not.

Rescue Mission on the Master System, but that's just personal nostalgia😛
Haven't used wiimotes as guns but I don't think you can really play without a crosshair which ruins the fun IMO. Get a Sinden! The set up can be a major pain and just hard to grasp at the beginning, but once done it's verrrrry good.

@ci2ownfirst of all thank you very much for creating the LG platform logos.
I just installed them and wanted to give my feedback, the platform logo is a bit hard to see as it is a bit small and is getting mixed with the bigger gun logo.
I think this would work a lot better.

Don't know about standalone MAME but the Retoarch version is really easy to setup, just need to map the global input settings (Gun trigger, gun reload, Gun aux A, etc...) by opening Retroarch without games, to what is mapped in the Sinden software (it should be mouse and keyboard keys), then save global configuration, open a game set the player 1 input in the game quick menu to light gun (save as core or content directory remap), just need that Sinden border on (easiest way if the Sinden default border doesn't come up is to use Reshade (look it up), and you should be good to go (at least as basic setup).
-
@AstroBob probably the same thing I was trying to achieve with light gun games.
-
Thanks.
My idea was to create a separate section in Bigbox to easily navigate between platforms containing light gun games as I usually plugin my Sinden gun then play a few games then unplug it (hence the idea of hiding light gun games from controller based games lists). I configured it to be able to navigate in Bigbox, use pause screens and use emulator hotkeys so I can leave controllers and keyboards behind while using it. I guess creating custom platforms would be the most sensible as I also put light gun roms in their own sub folders so reimporting them would be easy.
However I spent 3 hours setting up the category with all the platform playlists and media yesterday I don't think I have the motivation to start from scratch again.
I think what I wanted to do would be a useful feature. There's definitely more use cases.
-
Hi I just separated my light gun games within their own platforms (created as auto-populated playlists) under a "Light Gun Games" category, I would now like to hide all light gun games from regular platforms but still have them appear in the various light gun platforms I just created, is this possible?

Xbox controller mapping for N64 Retroarch
in Troubleshooting
Posted
Hey @Elmo80 the default mapping should allow you to do that without any issue.
The left stick will be the N64 joystick and the DPad should be assigned to your DPad by default.
C-Buttons will be assigned to the right joystick.
Maybe you have an input remap already saved for either your core, content directory or game? Try to delete it either from the remaps folder or from the Quick menu directly when you have an N64 game open.
You may to want to update controller profiles from Retroarch also (open it without any game and save current configuration, then quit retroarch), and make sure the option to assign profiles automatically is enabled (it is normally is by default).
