  1. Happy Halloween to you too buddy and to my fellow LaunchBoxers. Just passing the word, if anyone was really crushed by the new SimCity game, check out a game in development by Colossal Games and Paradox Studios called Cities: Skylines. Looks like what SimCity should have been, I miss the old Maxis studios, look what money did to Will Wright.... Anyway check it out, the CEO of Colossal Games even personally reads and responds to the forums and is taking ideas for the game. The whole team is only 12 people. Sorry just excited because first EA messed up SimCity Societies which was like City Life and then that mess they call "SimCity" (2013). Now someone is finally going to show EA, look you can give the fans what they want...and still make money without DLC and always online DRM and cloud saving at launch and servers that suck....I waited 10 years for them to kill the dream and hope I had for that game...EA doesn't care about us and Maxis forgot about us and lost their way and don't have the guts to make the game we want anyway because EA would just shut them down or fire all of them you get the idea.... Wow I'm sooooo sorry, I don't normally vent...I apologize.
  2. Jason and the Launch Box Community, I know everyone that uses LB is most likely aware that thegamesdb has been going through moving their site to a new server over the last month. There had been a little down time and now it's down hard. I'm not sure your guys' ties to them but depending on the nature of the reasoning and amount of time for them to become operational (if they can), maybe a backup (or replacement) should be implemented. I am in no way placing blame on the guys working on thegamesdb project, they all have normal jobs too and this is an extra project for them also. I have the utmost respect for their work and their efforts to solve their current issues. However saying that, the DB being down is crippling the main feature in LB. And if they cannot resolve their issues soon I fear it could unintentionally harm the great reputation that is building for Launch Box. At least there should be a redundancy built-in if one DB is non-operational. To Jason and the Launch Box Community, thank you for listening to my concern. Also thank you for the Launch Box program! Edit: Ok just checked and now they are back up and running. But it still might be a good idea to have a redundancy built into the app. Thanks everyone!
  3. You were correct it was Video-Autorennen I was just thrown off track because the title screen says Monaco Grand Prix. Thanks for making the box art, I think yours is way better. I had the other box art and didn't realize it.
  4. Thanks for that mate! I looked for hours and came up empty handed. I have even downloaded from old archive files looking.
  5. Here is my Bally Astrocade collection of 20 games. Originally released by Bally in early 1978 for a staggering $299 USD (about $1,122 USD in 2014) as the Bally Professional Arcade. By 1979 Bally was struggling with sales do to low retail and media exposure, high price point, and competition from the very successful Atari VCS 2600. Bally agreed to sell their rights to a company called Astrovision in 1979, Astrovision had failed at developing their own console. After Astrovision aquired the rights from Bally they renamed the the Bally Professional Arcade to the Bally Computer System. In 1982 they renamed the system once more to the Astrocade. The Astrocade ceased production in 1985 after the company suffered greatly through the video game crash of 1983. Hope you guys enjoy and give these games a try, they look very good for when the system was released. I'll try to figure which console I'm going to add into my collection next.
  6. This is my collection of 53 games for the Emerson Arcadia 2001, including games released in other countries where the console went by several different names and licensed to several companies. This console was released in May 1981 for $199.99 USD (about $495 USD in 2014) and production ceased 18 months later. I still need box art for Monaco Grand Prix, using a screen shot at the moment. Waiting now for 12 days for thegamesdb.net to add this platform and the Bally Astrocade to their database. Still waiting for them to add my photo and description for the Fairchild Channel F as well. Hope you guys enjoy and will have my Bally Astrocade up here soon.
  7. SentaiBrad said ps4isthefuture said No, never new about it until I watched a youtube series called The Video Game Years by Retroware. It was the first cartridge based console and released in 1976. I actually applied to be their editor. That would have been a awesome gig! Fun facts about the Fairchild Channel F: 1. Was the first console to use cartridges (as mentioned above) 2. First console to use a microprocessor 3. First console to allow you to compete against a computer (CPU) player 4. First time a "Pause" function was introduced (it was a button called "HOLD", most people believe it was the Atari 5200 that was first. Atari was the first, I think lol, to use the word "Pause" on the controller or system for a console.) 5. In 1976 it retailed for 179.99 US (roughly $700 today) I'm preparing two more platforms to post for my collection, Emerson Arcadia 2001 from 1981 and Bally Astrocade (Professional-Arcade-Astrocade) from 1977. I'm working on my Second-Gen systems and going to work my way to the present...well as far present as I can for the consoles anyway.
  8. Just to let you know I get this sometimes. I have tried 1024MB and 1536MB and still happens but it's erratic, just random. Sometimes a few days and it's ok and other time within minutes. Also sometimes LB will for no reason use 25 - 30% of my CPU until I close it, but that is even more rare, I've seen that 3 times. I'm running AMD 3.6GHz Quad-core 5600K APU, 8GB 1600MHz RAM, and AMD HD 6670 2GB DDR3. Not sure if any of that is of use to you guys.
  9. Glad I could trigger your memory to get you going in the correct direction and even happier that you triumphed a victory over it. Thanks for the kudos but sounds like you did a lot of work to get the victory. This is a great place to come and help each other not only with launchbox but also with emulator woes.
  10. Hi Everyone, I have 2 more system set-ups for you. Just because you never heard of them doesn't mean they weren't fun! (One game that is a must play is "The Incredible Wizard" released in 1981 on the Bally Astrocade, absolutely one of the best games I've played...Period.) 1. Arcadia 2001 (MFG by Emerson Radio Corp. in 1982) 2. Astrocade or Professional-Arcade-Astrocade (MFG by Bally in 1977) Arcadia 2001: Emulating with MESS or MESS64 you must set-up to use the emulator's exe as an app in the Launcher tab. In the "Application Path" Field enter the full path to the emulator's executable file. In the "Application Command-Line Parameters" field enter the following: -arcadia -cart "Drive Letter:\full path\game name.zip" -skip_gameinfo -nowindow **Must have quotes, full path, include the extension, and this will need to be done for each game you add. Also if using MESS you do not need to acquire a bios for Arcadia 2001, save yourself the time, I looked for about an hour before I realize that.** Astrocade: Emulating with MESS or MESS64 you must set-up to use the emulator's exe as an app in the Launcher tab. In the "Application Path" Field enter the full path to the emulator's executable file. In the "Application Command-Line Parameters" field enter the following: astrocde -cart "Drive Letter:\full path\game name.zip" -skip_gameinfo -nowindow **Again must have quotes, full path, include the extension, and this will need to be done for each game you add. Also pay attention that you type astrocde and NOT astrocade, attention to details will save you a few minutes of grief. ** I have requested to TheGamesDB.net to add these two platforms a few minutes ago. Also earlier today they approved the addition on the Fairchild Channel F. I have started to add titles to their DB. Cheers and enjoy!

  12. SentaiBrad said ps4isthefuture said Just a quick thought. To have a game count next to the platform name. Helpful to make sure your whole collection has been imported, trying to complete a collection, and also for screen captures of your collection. Example: Platform: Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) [758] Or something of the sort, you get the idea. However not sure about the coding involved and how difficult it may be to incorporate into the program. Anyway thanks for listening and thanks for the great program! When you select a filter from the new UI, on the bottom bar it should say 758 of 6501 (what ever your numbers are); I know it worked with the old filters system, but what about the new system? Oh sorry thanks, didn't see that before because I do not display the bottom bar when I use LB.

  14. This is my collection for the Fairchild Channel F. At the moment it contains 30 game titles, the included system game, cartridges #1 - #26, and the German Saba Videoplay cartridges #1, 16, and 20. This is 30 games of my entire large library of 6,162 games and counting... I have only roughly 1,100 loaded into LB many of which are not in thegamesdb or thegamesdb do not recognize my rom names. Extremely painfully slow internet and having to manually add each rom as an app for WinKawaks and MESS64 are slowing me up a bit. Still trying to get thegamesdb.net to add Fairchild Channel F to their platform DB.
  15. If you guys ever need any help with anything feel free to contact me. Things that are tedious, time consuming, and kind of repetitive. Things that someone else can handle as an extra pair of hands so you guys can concentrate on items within the project that are more demanding on your talent versus spending your time on mind numbing task. Frankly I don't like to do mind numbing task either but I'd like to contribute if I am able. I don't have programming experience but I seem to catch on to new endeavors fairly quick I believe. Just thought I'd offer to help Jason, yourself, and the others working on this project. Cheers!
  16. SentaiBrad said ps4isthefuture said SentaiBrad said That's... odd. It does seem like an XML error. If you still have the messed up one and a different machine, install LB and put the XML file there. Operate it like you were and that could tell you. Have you tried the earliest XML backup as well? It doesn't keep a lot but... If it is an XML corruption, upload the corrupted XML. Jason may be able to see the affected area's that cause the corruption.... MAYBE. I don't know how easy that would be or if at possible but if its able to be done it could save you all that time. I don't make any promises on his behalf though. Edit: Actually as I just typed that, if you know the last few games that were being imported, look in the XML and go down to the games that were latest. Delete their lines in the XML. SentaiBrad, Thanks. I just renamed the the folder and installed 3.5 again, replaced the xml with my old one and it works no errors yet. Now I am copying over my images and see if every thing is still ok. I did notice a few items not in the new installed LB that where in the other, like the two directX files, AeroWizzard.dll,Interop.WMPLib.dll, and dosbox.conf. Just so you know. Will update you shortly if the error is gone or not after the images are transferred over. Because as of a few versions ago all of the files that were previously separate are now all contained in the exe. You no longer need them; just the exe. There may be a conflict there so make sure to just keep the files that LB creates. Everything is great and working fine. Just did a fresh install of 3.5, transferred over the xml, and all the images. Strange but everything is working great now. At least you guys have this in the logs if it comes up again. But computers have so many variables it may never come up again. Thank you for your help!

  18. Looks like something is wrong in my XML. I took it out and let LB make a new fresh blank one and no error. At least I think it was the xml causing the issue, maybe not. Could be the images still.
  19. I tried using a backup of the launchbox.xml and no change. I reinstalled back to 3.2 and same issue. I used a backup from just before the power outage and it worked...until it said would you like to update and then the following error was displayed: System.ArgumentException: Parameter is not valid. at System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(Stream stream, Boolean useEmbeddedColorManagement, Boolean validateImageData) at System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(Stream stream) at LaunchBox.Game.get_Image() at LaunchBox.GamesControl.Application_Idle(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Application.ThreadContext.System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.IMsoComponent.FDoIdle(Int32 grfidlef) at System.Windows.Forms.Application.ComponentManager.System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.IMsoComponentManager.FPushMessageLoop(Int32 dwComponentID, Int32 reason, Int32 pvLoopData) at System.Windows.Forms.Application.ThreadContext.RunMessageLoopInner(Int32 reason, ApplicationContext context) at System.Windows.Forms.Application.ThreadContext.RunMessageLoop(Int32 reason, ApplicationContext context) at Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices.WindowsFormsApplicationBase.OnRun() at Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices.WindowsFormsApplicationBase.DoApplicationModel() at Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices.WindowsFormsApplicationBase.Run(String[] commandLine) at LaunchBox.Program.SingleInstanceApplication.Run(Form form, StartupNextInstanceEventHandler startupHandler) at LaunchBox.Program.Main(String[] args) I have no idea what's going on. My XML is only 5.26MB and my image folder is 6.74GB
  20. Hi nafr1, I was able to exit Launch Box with a 360 controller. By pressing the Y button it will take you to the top menu. Then you can use the your directional control to move left and you will see Exit then press the A button. There you go!
  21. nmc, Yes you can. You need to set it up as an app. To do this add/edit a game. Make sure emulation option is unchecked. Go to the Launcher tab. In the "Application Path" area enter the path to your emulator exe file. In the "Application Command-line Parameters" area enter your command-line instructions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is what I had to do to every title to run WinKawaks, Nebula, and MESS. It also is helpful if you want to apply the default for the emulator to most of the roms for said emulator but have a select few titles that you want to run with a different command-line. I hope this was helpful. If you need more help I will try my best and if you need any clarification on my instructions just ask and I will be more than happy to assist you. Cheers!
  22. Hi everyone. The following error now comes up every time I start Launch Box 3.5: System.ArgumentException: Parameter is not valid. at System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(Stream stream, Boolean useEmbeddedColorManagement, Boolean validateImageData) at System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(Stream stream) at LaunchBox.Caching.ImageCache.PrepopulateImageCache() at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart() It forces a shut down of LB. This showed up just after a long power outage. I was updating images into one of my Fairchild Channel F roms when the power cut for about 10 hours. The error has been there from the first start-up until now. I'm trying to avoid a fresh install as most of my game so far have had to be put in manually because of the emulators or items not in the gamedb. I have loaded about 1100 games in so far and have another 5100 to go. I really don't want to start again and don't feel like working in hyperspin at the moment because that takes ages to add each game and everything that goes with it. Anyway hope someone has some good news for an answer. Cheers!
  23. Fairchild Channel F Emulating with MESS or MESS64: Must setup in Launcher tab only, application path set to your mess.exe or mess64.exe Application Command-line Parameters: channelf -cart "Drive Letter:\full path\alieninv.zip" -skip_gameinfo -nowindow **Must have quotes, file extention, and this must be done to add each rom** Shortly I will be adding my Fairchild Channel F collection into the database as there are none at the moment. Update: Waiting approval from forums.TheGamesDB.net to have Fairchild Channel F added as a platform. Update 2: forums.TheGamesDB.Net 2 days have past and still waiting for approval or even an acknowledgement that my request has been submitted. It's been viewed 17 times thus far, I think they need more people to help out on the admin side of the house.
  24. scree said Hi realbout WinKawaks will not work in LaunchBox if you use the Emulator tab method. You need to treat WinKawaks as an application. To add a game: Select the Launcher tab. Set the path to the WinKawaks executable in the Application Path box. Put the game's name in the Application Command-Line Parameters box. Thanks I will have to give that a try as well. Maybe that could also work for Mess for me as well. I'll keep the board updated if it worked for me or not. Thanks for everyone's support! Update: Thanks a ton! Worked like a Charm! It took me a bit to get the correct cmd line. Note, make sure you have the rom directory set within WinKawaks or it will not know where to open the rom from. I'll test out mess later. Example: Art of Fighting cmd line: aof -fullscreeen Update 2: I got Mess64 working, finally figured it out. It is similar to getting WinKawaks to work, has to be ran as an app and not as an emulator within LB. So in the application path enter the path to Mess64.exe or Mess.exe Then in the command-line this is what I used to get mine to run Colecovision: coleco -cart "Drive Letter:\full path\Burger Time (USA, Europe).rom" -skip_gameinfo -nowindow You must include the quotation marks and include the entire rom path, with the full rom name, and the file extension (.rom, .zip, whatever it is). I had to drop -nonewui from the command-line because it was saying unknown command, so just a note for the configuration table on this forum. I will let you all know if the same applies to getting the Atari 7800 to run as well. Update 3: Ok the Atari 7800 is the same story as with Colecovision. Set up as an app, full path to Mess64.exe or Mess.exe in application path section. Here is the command-line I used to get the 7800 to work: a7800 -cart "Drive Letter:\full path\Ballblazer (USA).a78" -skip_gameinfo -nowindow Hope this helps some of you out Update 4: If you want to use Nebula.exe to run Neogeo, CPS1, and CPS2 this also has to be setup as an app not as an emulator within LB. You will need to open Nebula and set the rom path first and also set it to run in GUI Fullscreen as there is not a command-line for this. To set Nebula to GUI Fullscreen, run Nebula.exe, go to Emulation>Options At the top of this new window you will see GUI Window is selected, select GUI Fullscreen and apply, then exit Nebula. If for some reason you need to change it back to GUI Window you need to edit Nebula.ini file. You will see GUI mode=0 just change it to say GUI mode=1 and it will return to windowed mode. Same with Fullscreen as well just set it to 0. All you need to put in the command-line area is the file name for the rom. Example: for Art of Fighting the command-line was: aof Again I hope this information is helpful to someone
  25. Mess is not launching through Launchbox Error: unknown option: -nonewui I tried -nonewuii also same issue If I leave it out no error message but still does not launch. This is for Mess64.exe emulating Colecovision and Atari 7800. Again both systems run fine stand alone and in Hyperspin. Would still like to get everything to run in Launchbox. Thanks.
