  1. Mame NoFiller Version 2

    View File

    Requirements:

A complete Mame Non Merged rom set for the version you are downloading. You must have this downloaded to your hard drive to use the batch file. If you have a seedbox you can use the included NoFiller v2 - *.txt file to copy / paste to a filter and only download those files if you don't want to use your own internet bandwidth downloaded a complete Non Merged rom set.

    What is this ?

This is a batch file for people who only want to have a clean and streamlined set of games in their Arcade platform. It will copy out a curated set of roms from a full Mame rom set. The list of games selected was based off of input from people here on the forums, discord and my own personal experience playing these games growing up in the arcades back in the 80s and 90s. There are 434 rom files that will be copied out but there are some duplicates of a few games that have 2 or 4 player versions such as TMNT or Gauntlet for example, you can pick which one you want to use in your setup. (see below)

This is not the end all be all set of games of course but it is a good solid base to build your own personal set from rather than trying to pare down a complete set of roms. I tried not to include games that had really funky controls or light gun games though I did include some trackball and spinner games.

Included in the zip file you will find a batch file, spreadsheet document and 2 text files (1 list of roms and 1 list of games). The spreadsheet will allow people an easy way to maintain and add games as required. The rom list will make it easy to download only those files if you use a seedbox to get your roms from a torrent and the games list will let you compare what you have imported into Launchbox to see if anything is missing.

    How to use this:

First you will need to download the Non-Merged rom set that the batch file was made with, using a different set than the bat file was intended for may or may not cause incompatibilities in roms. Then simply copy the batch file into the folder with all of the roms and double click the bat file, it will make a new folder within that folder and copy all of the roms into that newly created folder. From there you can copy that new folder of roms to anywhere you like and import them into Launchbox, be sure to update your rom path in your mame.ini to point this rom set location. You can now do whatever you like with your full set you downloaded, it is no longer needed for the NoFiller set to function, though you may want to keep a backup just in case.

    Extra Notes:

Games that have problems importing into LB, will need to be imported individually.

How come the new generic playlists only contain arcade games? You would expect that a playlist in LaunchBox titled "2-Players Games" would include all multiplayer games, not just for one platform. If they're only for Arcade, they should be named "2-players Arcade games", don't they?

They are in the Arcade platform and you can rename em to whatever you want, I even moved mine to their own platform category for my organizational reasons.

you could link me to or PM a download link for that previous version and I can test again

Check in your \Launchbox\Updates folder, it should be there unless you deleted it.

  4. Gens and Fusion are very much out of date now and work best on older operating systems, they both seem to have issues on Windows 10. You can use whatever you prefer but just know that those 2 emulators will give certain issues such as resolution switches.

  5. Hopefully you have solved the issue. I have been reading your posts with nothing to offer because I have never run into the problem you are describing and my setup is very different than yours. I run the audio out of my PC through an external USB DAC into my stereo receiver.

  6. I just had a short go at messing with this and here is what worked for me. I downloaded the version from this website though I don't know if it is the exact one you are using. https://segaretro.org/Gens/GS

Right click the executable for the emulator and run it in Windows 7 compatibility. By the looks of it this emulator hasn't seen an update since 2009 and looking in the cfg file it uses Direct Draw 4. This will work and load games but much like Fusion it is very messy in the way it handles resolution switching when going into fullscreen mode.336857203_2018-08-2612_57_25-gens.exeProperties.thumb.png.361a74c93bf89fc63e296f26622e3128.png

In Launchbox it doesn't require any special settings at all.

If you are one of those "I hate Retroarch" people then Mame emulates the Genesis quite well, Mednafen does a very good job as well and BizHawk is another great choice, it uses the same GenesisGX code that Retroarch uses.

  7. Hello and welcome to the Launchbox community.

First I will address your questions about a cabinet although that is going to be short. There is a whole lot of personal preference when it comes to cabinets and costs involved, personally I don't have or want a full cabinet but I do have a Tankstick and it is fairly decent but it could be better. I would like to one day replace the sticks in them because they are a little cheap and have quirks. I would recommend spending some time thinking and planning out a cabinet, think about the types of games you want to play primarily. In the meantime check this forum out here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=vd585nqg8tv6l3e72pi3mt0ph3&They have all sorts of discussions, pictures and information about cabinets.

As for the what device to use I would highly recommend a PC. Many people tell you that just about any cheap PC will run most emulators and they are not wrong with that statement but I have to say that you should get a good modern CPU based system. You can never have too much CPU power for emulation, more power than that which is required for an emulator does not go to waste especially when you use something like Retroarch. It has several features in it that will greatly improve your emulation experience such as lower input latency and the best audio synchronization and those features require more CPU than the basic power to play games. For most emulation a good single thread performance CPU will yield the best results, something like a modern Intel i5, although the new AMD Ryzen chips will do the job pretty good (avoid older AMD cpus, they have poor single thread performance). Some of the newer emulators such as RPCS3 (PS3) actually benefits from more cores and threads. A good graphics card is not required but a reasonably new one is recommended, an Nvidia card is highly recommended here over AMD cards because many emulators use OpenGL and AMDs OpenGL drivers are notoriously bad and you are most likely to run into issues with certain emulators with them. Also Launcbox / BigBox does benefit from a dedicated graphics card, avoid integrated Intel graphics at all costs.
