  1. Hey all, has anyone gotten the former MESS systems playable in MAME? None of these seem to be working for me - (Edit: except for Arcade)
  2. @Jason Carr Hey Jason, any thoughts based on the discussions? It seems that a lot were wanting this in nested filters. I'm not sure where this all fits in, especially since the poll just wrapped up. Thanks as always!
  3. Yep I was thinking something like
  4. Yep that's why I kept stressing that while nested filters was in development we should really consider supporting multiwheels within that UI. The UI is obviously key to make it simple. I think something that looks like a folder tree view similar to Windows Explorer would be best. The wheel structure on a left pane and the queries & results on a right pane. The only major thing I can think of is the ability to specify what image is associated for each wheel element. For example, If I want platform families as a top level, generic logos like Nintendo, Atari, Sega, etc would need to be specified. Even something like Early 80s Classics, Shooters, or whatever else like what @ZeroX9876 mentioned want to use -- It'd be up to the user or community to create those. Wheels could be sharable to the community like playlists are as well.
  5. Yep same here. In fact the nested filters interface seems perfect for building the multiwheels. I thought this was going to be in the poll as it was mentioned during the live stream, but hopefully it'll be in the next poll.
  6. Try an approach like https://autohotkey.com/board/topic/91901-hold-2-buttons-for-4-seconds/
  7. Hehe thank you I'd love your input too. Do you think this type of restructure would mess up any themes?
  8. I'm going to attempt to explain this as promised. This is gonna be a hella long description with lots of explanation so please bear with me. Nested filters, playlists, multilevel wheels, categories, and a few other terms are getting so confused and overlapped. I originally brought up nested filters and that sort of morphed into what we have now when the original intention was simply nested wheels. When I used HyperSpin this was a highly-requested feature. See http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forums/topic/15075-support-multi-sub-wheels-on-main-menu/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPntYy8Bayg. What I’m suggesting in detail would solve a lot of the confusing terms as well as give people complete options for customization. I’ll start by explaining a few examples of what the end results would be. 1. The default – platforms, then all games under that platform. 2. Subcategories – subcategories, then games under that. (this is where multilevels come into play for non-casual users who want more customization) 3. Nintendo, Nintendo Classics, games (regardless of platform) 4. Consoles, Atari, Atari 5200, games 5. Arcade, shooters, games (specific games specified by their game id #) 6. Donkey Kong, games (specific games specified by their game id #, AND a text query of "kong") 7. Favorites, games (all favorited games) 8. Arcade, Nintendo, games (all arcade games not on consoles) 9. Early 80s games, games (a query on all games from 1980-1983) Sounds complicated? It’s not. Think of every platform, category, game, etc. as its own separate query as if they were in a database. Whether it’s a top-level wheel, a 2nd level wheel, or an 8th level wheel for that matter, it’s all about querying. I’m calling this UI a “wheel-builder” for lack of a better term, but I foresee this looking like sort of a cross between a tree view and a visual SQL query builder. I suppose an interface like https://www.pgadmin.org/docs/dev/gqb.html for those unfamiliar with creating queries “by hand”. I really feel like this would solve so much of the confusion meanwhile giving people complete flexibility of how they want games in their library presented. Just like we have files on our computers in folders and subfolders, our games shouldn’t be any different. Your thoughts and suggestions are welcomed.
  9. Hey Brad, I'm having some problems but before I diagnose too much further, is it ok if the ROMs are zipped?
  10. You can add other emulators to RetroPie, but this isn't a feature by feature comparison for RetroPie vs LaunchBox. Of course it's not feasible right now. I watch the live streams and know Jason is the programming department of LB/BB.. heh
  11. Hey all, so a very quick backstory from a former HyperSpin user - a friend built an arcade cab and the PC he was planning on using suffered a horrible death, so he wondered if his Raspberry Pi could somehow run it. Although a PC running LaunchBox is obviously preferred, the Pi was his only option to get his arcade working. I offered to help, and even got a Raspberry Pi of my own test out what I've been hearing about - RetroPie. Working with it and doing some research, I was so blown away how many with cabs and others in the community use Raspberry Pis. It's literally the standard for those that don't use PCs. RetroPie includes most of not all of the Retroarch cores and relies heavily on it. I originally thought there would be a licensing issues but RetroPie is as free as LaunchBox. I'm no lawyer but including the cores in a free product shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, the "import" process is even easier than LaunchBox's if you can believe that. All I did was put roms in preconfigured directories such as roms/arcade, roms/coleco, roms/snes, etc. RetroPie detected that there are roms there at launch, preconfigured everything, the system itself, and (optionally) automatically downloaded media/metadata. As a test i uploaded a rom to roms/snes and literally everything worked. It doesn't get more simple than that. No prompts, no input, it just worked. Of course that takes a lot of Jason's magic behind the scenes to make all that happen, but between things like that and making LaunchBox available to Linux, the popularity would be even more. Heck, it would be SO easy to offer a preconfigured SD card image like https://retropie.org.uk/download loaded with LaunchBox. Your thoughts are welcomed.
  12. Yeah perhaps when LaunchBox gets past the core features there can be more rom-management and audit features (or even plugins) that will help people working with full sets. It's the only thing stopping myself and many others from making the full switch from RocketLauncher and a handful of HyperSpin auditing tools.
  13. Where does it pull this info about what a fruit game is for example?
  14. That's like a normal import in that it also will skip importing games. Unless I'm missing something that doesn't specify what specific games will be skipped either.
  15. Hey all, I'm importing a complete ROM set and would like to skip a lot of the cruft games. Does anyone know how to detail what games are actually being skipped on each of the options? For example, what games are fruit games, or non-arcade games? Thanks, DJ
  16. Not sure if I'll be able to wait for a livestream Do you mean wait for a Monday or Wednesday? You can livestream it whenever you're ready to unbox it. ;)
  17. Hey Jason are you gonna unbox and set this bad boy up on Twitch and/or YouTube? That would be awesome to see!
  18. It seems to be working better today but LaunchBox did crash a couple times. There's no errors or anything, it just closes.
  19. Oh ok, I cancelled it and will try again tomorrow. After cancelling it LaunchBox crashed. Maybe after a few errors (I had over 5300), maybe LaunchBox should just stop trying? When EmuMovies IS up, perhaps opening multiple threads would be faster. I know you mentioned it's possible in the past, but it's how HyperSync does it and for example, downloading ALL SNES media takes less than 20 minutes.
  20. It might help if I actually attached it. lol
  21. Attached are a few of the errors, and please let me know if I should create BitBucket issues for each of these so you can more easily handle them. I haven't kept a close eye on the "conditions" when the CPU spikes, but it is indeed occasionally. When it does happen though, it lasts a long time, not to mention the silent crashes that don't generate an error report.
  22. Ever since I've upgraded to 6.3 I've had nothing but problems. Some I'm sure are coincidence. Does anyone else have multiple systems with over 33,000 games? Downloading everything but videos is taking forever (with over 3000 errors so far), LaunchBox silently crashes at times, and my CPU usage is periodically at 100% when running only LaunchBox. I'm not sure where to start diagnosing this. See the attached which has been running for over 6 hours.
