  1. aaah ok ok, thanks. This is good. But it is not possible in any case, when i go in Tools --> Add roms --> set my general rom path. LB still continue to search roms in its default path \LaunchBox\Games.

    Ok, no problem, thank you.

Another question: i noticed, sometimes, that when i try to manually change a name of an undetected game (I mean without the link to the LB ID), LB automatically start to update its media database. It means, of course, that periodically the media database is updated.

In order to verify if it is availbale a new update of media database, the only way is, for example, delete the link to a LB ID

    Immagine.png

    Immagine2.png

and try to search again that game link: in this way LB will automatically verify if a database update is available. Is it correct? Or is there a different way?

    thanks!

  2. perfect, thanks. And is it possible to set a specific general rom path in LB? I mean: every time i want to add a rom, by default LB searchs in D:\LaunchBox\Games.  But I have all my roms in D:\EMULATORI\ROM, so evcery time I have to manually change this path. It could be very useful to set the default rompath where to search every time... I look for it in Options but I dind't find anything about that...

    thanks

  3. Hi guys,

hi have a couple of question:

    1) in the updates folder, LB saves every .exe update file. Can I delete them, am I right?

    2) If LB downloads from emumovies more than one Box Front image, it automatically choose one of them as default. Currently, if i prefer another image as Box front default, I changed the type of the image of the other file. For example, if I LB downloads 2 file as Front box:

Fatal Fury_ Mark of the Wolves-01

Fatal Fury_ Mark of the Wolves-02

LB consider 02 as default, but I prefer the 01. So I changed the Image type of 02 as Front Box-Reconstructed. In this way, the 01 is my new default. Is it correct?  I use this method every time I want to change the default Box front of some games.

    thank you

  4. Hi,

i'm trying to understand how to manage Media for games with multiple disc. For example, for PSX, Parasite Eve 2 has 2 discs: if I name the 2 games like " Parasite Eve CD1 and Parasite Eve CD2, I can manage 2 different game themes, one for every disc but in this way, LB isn't able to link the game to the database and so it can download few media...

If I name both the disc like "Parasite Eve II" I can link the game to the database, but i suppose that i can manage only one theme for both the disc. is it correct?

    thanks

You do not have to delete the entire platform, only the games. You can just delete the games by selecting them all and pressing the Del key.

The size of the collection affects the import speed because of duplicate/combining checks and other related things. I'm sure there are optimizations that could be made though. I'll keep that in mind; might be able to improve it at some point here.

thanks, I deleted only all the games, but the platform "MAME" disappeared and its Playlist were still present, but empty and without a parent. I imported again the fullset without media: 2942 games (instead of 2945 so i supposed that 3 romes were removed in mame 0.221).  Now I have to manually associate every plalylist to "MAME" as parent...  I'm doing it, but even if I click click on every playlist and checked MAME as Parent, the playlist isn't added under "MAME".  And the playlist disappeared! How can I solve this issue?

I also noticed that during the import process, it duplicates all the playlist.  Now I'm able to add under MAME oly "Pinball Arcade":

    Immagine3.png

I tried to remove duplicate playlist and remove the word "Arcade" before every playlist name. But it doesn't help.  I noticed that if i remove some duplicate playlist, LB remove both the playlist", So fo example now I don't have 2 Players playlist, and so on...

How can I fix this mess?

    thank you!

EDIT: I closed and opened again LB, and now it correctly moves evey playlist under MAME. Probably there was an issue and rebooting LB it as solved.  But for sure I deleted some default playlist /2 Players, etc...one). How can I re-create all the missing playlist? Have I to delete again ALL the games, import again the fullromeset and again modify the parent of every playlist, removing the duplicates? Currenlty I have these playlist but I don't know which are missig (2 Players for sure):

Currently I still not know how to create an auto-populate playlist and then how to convert it into a manually-populated playlist...So, in my case, I have to perform only these 3 steps now:

    1) Delete all my MAME games: it means right click on the platform MAME and Delete it

    Immagine1.png

    2) Re import using mame full set, and uncheck both "download images from database" and "download media from emumovies"

    3) Tool --> Download metadata and media, in order to download media for the added new games.

Usually i update my mame romset every month, but i think that i will not do the same thing in LB too...

I have a question: if I delete the MAME platform, I will loose all the playlist automatically creaded. When I will reimport all the fullset, LB will re create them again, but i think that I will have to rename all the playlist in this way, as I have done the first time. In this way I'm sure that i can take separated the Final Burn Alpha playlist from the MAME playlist. I mean, I named every MAME playlist with "Arcade" prefix, and with "FBA" prefix for Final Burn Alpha playlist. Here an example:

    Immagine2.png

If I delete MAME platform, do you think that I will have to rename all the playlist...again? :(  I think so...

hi, is it correct what I wrote? Is it correct the way I described to delete the platform? If so, I think that after the new fullset import, I will have to manually create again all the playlist...:(

    thanks!

Yes, I'm the main developer and the original creator. Good to hear. :)

I just updated the MAME metadata for 0.221, but none of the third party sources are updated yet, so those are still on 0.220. You can go to Help > Force Update Games Database Metadata in LaunchBox to force a download of the updated MAME metadata.

    thanks

well, I have just updated the games database metadata. Strangely, the date/time is 01:00...but here (in italy) now it is 5:30pm...

    Immagine.png

In any case, when I imported the first time the mame fullset 0.220, with all metadata, in this way:

    Immagine.png

    I imported 2912 games.

Some days after, when I updated to 0.221 my mameUI fullset and i tried to re-import again the fullset (Tools --> Import --> Mame fullset Import) and no new roms were added. Someone here explained the reason here in the forum :)

Now, could I try to reimport again the full set in this way Import --> MAME fullset import, in order to verify if it will add some roms?

    thanks!

We do need a good way to communicate with users what the current supported MAME version is, yes. The hardest thing that we have to deal with is the fact that we rely on several other data sources (such as catver.ini from Progetto-Snaps) and these are all manually updated by humans, after each MAME release. Some of them are updated sooner than others (some of them take a week or more to update, for instance).

What I generally do is wait a day or two after the official MAME release each month, and then update all the files that are available. It is possible to just update the data from MAME itself, and then the rest of the data can be updated when they're available. This means that for new games, the new games may be available, but might be missing some metadata until after the third-party sources update their files.

I know this seems like a big mess (and it is), but trust me, I put tremendous amounts of research into this when I built it; it's really the best option for accurate MAME data, and the code that we built to combine it all together is gold.

Hi Jason, but are you from the LB programmer team? well, your front end is absolutely fantastic :) I have a lifetime subscription also for Big Box, that is really really cool. Thank you!

Ok I understood for the MAME issue. So, for example, LB probably will be able to correctly import the additional roms for 0.221 full set in the next weeks? Usually LB could support the new MAME release after some weeks after the official MAME release date. Is it correct?

No it doesn't matter how you import it either full set or the other way still uses the same list to get the working games list so if a game hasn't been added to that list by updating it to the new version then that game still won't get added.

so the only way to correctly update MAME in LB is wait for a new MAME.xml version that consider the updated MAME.exe version. But unfortunately we can't know when this file is updated...

  11. hi,

well, I updated my LB to 10.15 yesterday evening, more or less at 10:00 pm (CET).  If I check my mame.xml file, it is updated at 01:01 am, so it seems that it was updated before to LB update:

    Immagine.png

    I don't know why...

In any case, currently we are not able to understand if and when LB will update its mame.xml file in order to correctly run again the full MAME import process.

So, now, i could manually import the fullromset with the standard way (Tools --> Import --> Roms), uncheking all the Media. In this way, LB should automatically add the new roms and delete the not used. After that, I can use the standard function (Tools --> Import Metadata and Media --> Do not overwrite existing file) in order to download media only for the new added roms.

Am I right? I hope that in the future LB will clearly show which mame version is currently supported and will provide us an easy way to monthly update it :)

    thank you

  12. thank you! really useful!!!  Well, now in Final Burn Alpha I only have this files without video/box cover.

    https://i.postimg.cc/Lsk9fV6V/Immagine.png

But i suppose they are bios or some other stuff...not real game. So, if I delete from LB these files, do the games which need these bios will continue to run correctly when launched with LB? I think they they still continue to work because they are present in the roms folder, even if i delete them in LB (Note: I don't duplicate the games imported in LB, i use the original copy of every game in my roms folder).

    thanks!

  13. thank you!

well, today I updated LB to 10.15 version and the official MAME official 0.221 has been releases. I have already updated my romset with clrmame so, now, i I will import again the full set, it should add the additional roms included in the MAME 0.221 update, am I right?

  14. hi

I'm checking, for every platform, the missing box cover and the missing video. I have almost finished but with MAME and FBA it is really boring...to many games to check.  Is it possible to quickly retrieve, for each platform, only games with missing cover (and missing video)? in this way I can directly review them without sliding all the fullset...

    thanks!

  15. yes, I followed this guide:

I use spectabis also with LB because with this frontend, i can use every game with its specific settings. For example, I set PCSX2 with some setting for 3Dgames and with diffrent settings for 2D games. In this way, with Spectabis, every game automatically starts with the right setting :)

Unfortunately there isn't in Spectabis a specific command in order to exit from a game. Donìt worry, it isn't a problem :)
