I want to make my own database for my games, and I would like to try to get every game that was released in english if I could. So that includes things from Europe, USA, and wherever. Was just wondering if anyone knew a way to find out this info easily?

Portable PC for Emulation: Want Advice!
onebadveggie replied to onebadveggie's topic in Collections and Builds
I'm not super concerned with budget, but "best cheapest" is kind of the idea. I can clarify more what I mean by that. The media, as in Fades, Videos, etc will all be stuff that looks good on 1080p displays, but the games themselves will run at native resolutions. I like that a lot, and I think that's more along the lines of what I'm looking for. Actually I was wondering what Cooling you were using, as I see it was a water cooling device. This is the current build right now, I think it may be a little overkill, so critique and suggest alternatives! Current Build -
So, here's the plan. I want to build something I can take to friends houses, and just work. I'm building it for 1080P displays, using launchbox and rocketlauncher. The idea is to run old school game up till Dreamcast/PS2/Wii. Everything will be running in their native resolutions to ensure a sense of authenticity. So, crazy UHD graphics and such is not a concern. Size isn't too big of a deal, as it's not terrible to lug around PC with you, but if anyone has any good ideas, perhaps knows a good portable case, I'm all ears. The idea is to make something cost effective while still having a quality experience.

So are there plans to be able to use our own Databases eventually. My romsets are based primarily on the Hyperspin XMLs.

I guess this is more a question for Jason, but when you launch Big Box, does it launch anything else besides Bigbox.exe? Perhaps there's more than one application that needs to be closed?

So, I've ran into an odd issue, and seems to only have been happening in the last few updates (Maybe 7.0? I should have documented that...). I'll be in Big Box mode, and shut it down as normal. The next time I go to launch in Big Box mode, it will refuse to start. And the thing is, this isn't every time, it's only sometimes. Say 1 out of 3 times I shut down Big Box it will not start again the next time I launch it. I did notice that it still shows up in Task Manager as a running program, even though nothing is happening on screen. But even if I "End Task" in Task Manager, it still will not launch again until I restart my PC. One other thing, is normal Launch Box is not affected by this at all. It launches and shuts down as normal, no matter what. It's only an issue with Big Box mode.

Steam Link controller issues (PS4 Controller & Steam Controller)
onebadveggie replied to hawkguy's topic in Troubleshooting
Yep, made sure just now. I did some playing around in the inputs too. When I press X while in Retroarch on the Steam Link, it registers that I'm pressing Enter on my keyboard. When I press Circle it registers as Escape. When I test out my setup on my PC (Start Steam, bring up Big Picture, Launch Big Box, Play game in Retroarch), everything works perfectly fine. I'm using my DS4+DS4Windows+Bluetooth. It only registers the buttons as key presses when I'm using my DS4 and the Steam Link Bluetooth. I have to assume it has to do with the configurations. -
Steam Link controller issues (PS4 Controller & Steam Controller)
onebadveggie replied to hawkguy's topic in Troubleshooting
Yeah, I have a wired 360 controller, plugged it into retroarch, and it's using winxinput. Must be specific to xbox controllers. Gonna plug it into my steam link just to test. Edit: Yeah no difference at all. -
Steam Link controller issues (PS4 Controller & Steam Controller)

It's set to Xinput, I don't even see an option for Winxinput. I've got; xinput, dinput, sdl2, hid, null. -
Steam Link controller issues (PS4 Controller & Steam Controller)
onebadveggie replied to hawkguy's topic in Troubleshooting
I actually bought VirtualHere because I thought it'd fix the issue, by making the Link recognize my game pad as an Xinput controller (I think Steam Link sees the DS4 as directinput by default). And I'm on my PC right now, with no controller on at all, messing with configs and getting the same exact problems. Just to clarify: It wasn't working originally, bought VirtualHere to hopefully fix the issue (which it didn't), and am now doing the same thing on PC sans controller and having the same problem. -
Steam Link controller issues (PS4 Controller & Steam Controller)
onebadveggie replied to hawkguy's topic in Troubleshooting
Okay, then I am having a strange issue, that I assumed was being caused by not using a steam controller. When I edit my configuration, it will not save. In fact, I created a config (that was identical to the CaptainKeeb config), and Big Picture mode just wouldn't save it. It would just hang on the screen with a "Waiting..." symbol, and never finish. I have to restart Big Picture when it happens. So, then I went into the community section and tried to download a community config, just to see what would happen, and well, nothing happened. I would select one (There's one called Xbox 360 config that I've tried numerous times), and it just brings me back to the Desktop Configuration screen and nothing has changed. I asked about this in the Steam_Link reddit, and the only responses I got made it seem like it was because I wasn't using a Steam Controller, but obviously that's false, and I'm having a different issue. -
Steam Link controller issues (PS4 Controller & Steam Controller)
onebadveggie replied to hawkguy's topic in Troubleshooting
Sorry to bump this thread, but I'm having this exact same problem. Now, the difference is, I do not have a steam controller so I have no option to change the config like @Zombeaver showed in his posts. I'm using the Dualshock 4 with VirtualHere so that it recognizes it as Xinput on the Steam Link. Even before I was using VirtualHere I was having the same issue (Circle causes Retroarch to exit), also most of the other buttons are completely unresponsive except for X which Retroarch appears to be thinking it's the Start button for most consoles. -
Hey! Came here looking for Naomi, so I know I'm in the right place! Looking for Daphne and Sammy Atomiswave too! Preferably in the same style as the first cabinet above. Also, I'm getting an error when I go to grab that first Naomi cabinet file. Edit: Just noticed in the console archive the names for Super famicom and SNES are switched. Just an FYI
-
Oh man, one of my favorite Hyperspin contributors working on LaunchBox too! I already use all your Bezels on Rocketlauncher, and just made the switch over to LaunchBox. Can't wait to see what you do with it!

In that same ticket Jason says " I like the thought of having an option to rename all images, and also an option to choose between ROM file name and game name as well. Those are great ideas." Those are EXACTLY what I would like. I upvoted!

Is there any way, or option to download the metadata for the games while still retaining the name of the file in your library? As a quick example, it's simple stuff like I'll have a file called "Slayer (USA)", but when the metadata downloads it changes the name to "AD&D: Slayer" in the library. I'd like to retain the name "Slayer (USA)" but still have all the metadata info, just so when I'm going through, making sure all my media is named correctly, that things are just simpler. Since I imagine some of us are using databases from all over to keep track of our roms to begin with, it would just be simpler for me personally if this was possible. Just to keep rom names, media, and all the stuff uniform.

I just signed up to ask about this as well, wow. Jason, you're amazing!
