There's an article in the LaunchBox Strategy Guide regarding the Media Packs.
See here: LaunchBox Media Pack Feature – Version 13.21 - LaunchBox
Thanks….but I’m not trying to install a media pack. It’s just a single png I downloaded myself.

I cant seem to add playlist icons (by placing png images in LaunchBox\Images\Platform Icons\Playlists) with the current beta. The icon doesn't appear next to the playlist in Launchbox. The icon name matches the playlist unique name.

Lol, very poetic post. You're right of course, regarding it being impossible to play all of those games and it being more of a "compulsive completionist syndrome". You should head over to the datahoarder subreddit, or hang out in the RomVault discord - you'll see that collecting full sets for the sake of it isn't all that unusual. You can collect a large stamp collection, but you never actually use any of the stamps. Collecting for its own sake is not an unusual hobby. Me, I'm somewhere in the middle; I like to collect full sets, but I don't tend to import a new platform until the existing platforms that I have are "sorted" - i.e. everything is set up properly with the correct artwork, manuals, videos etc. And I play many of the games too

I've noticed recently that after closing Launchbox, a Launchbox process remains active (as per the Windows 11 task manager), This persists even after putting the PC to sleep and waking again. When I try and start Launchbox I then get the message "another instance of LaunchBox or BigBox is already running".

Wait for next beta (which should be out next week), and you'll need to let us know if it helps for you.
Well, I got it working in the meantime with some help of Viking and Neil on the Discord. I had to go to Win11 settings/system/optional features, and then remove the existing Windows Media Player legacy edition. I then had to reinstall it from the same window, and once fully reinstalled, everything worked! So hopefully that helps others.

I installed the K-Lite Codec pack - it doesn't seem to make any difference; videos still don't play now.
-
Videos are no longer playing for me in the latest beta? The video thumbnail appears in the game carousel, but the video doesn't auto-play as usual. If I press play then nothing happens. There is no sound either. Double-clicking maximises the video but it still doens't play - I just see a black screen.
-
Yeah, Launchbox is still hanging. Just now it became unresonsive for about 40 seconds before working again.
-
Seem to be getting some slowdowns in this latest beta. Hangs for up to 10 seconds sometimes when switching between platforms. Sometimes it hangs for longer. Didn't happen in the previous version.
Edit: A restart of LB seems to have fixed it, for now. I'll keep an eye on it.

Hi @Mock - same! It would be really nice to know what had changed/fixed it - in particular so we know if it ever comes back in the future! But in the meantime I'm enjoying stutter-free box viewing

Previously the game controller icon would show in the top right of the game details pane. In the latest beta (13.19-beta-3) and maybe previous betas, this no longer shows. Would be great to have this fixed, thanks. Running on Windows 11.

Frogg theme
View File
Here is my Launchbox theme, imaginatively titled "Frogg".
This is a rework of the default theme, as there were a number of things I wanted to change. See the second screenshot for a list of the changes made. Most of the changes were to the game details pane. I also removed the rounded edges from the boxes in the main grid view. The platform tree is the same.
Overall I wanted to maximise the use of available screen area and show as much metadata as possible, minimising the necessity to scroll. Some scrolling is still required to view the retroachievements and related games, but for general game browsing often no scrolling is required to see the banner, images, metadata and notes. The very latest default them has returned to having the related game in a separate tab; I might update this theme at some point to incorporate that (now done with version 2 of this theme).
I have an ultrawide monitor and this theme makes good use of the extra screen real estate. If your monitor isn't quite as wide you can resize the game details pane to your satisfaction. Also, I have a separate marquee screen on which the banner is displayed. That's why I kept the scratched arcade marquee aesthetic with the clear logo in the game details pane. It probably fits the theme better than the marquee anyway.
A few things I'd like to change with updated versions (any help with these would be appreciated):
- the height of the image preview area; videos fill the space well, though for the images it only uses around 80% of the available height. It looks OK but it's something I want to improve
- I'd like to have Retroachievements in a separate tab, like "related games" has; same for MAME high scores

That works, thanks - though the folder structure in the download doesn't work; you have to move the plugin items into a Thirdscreen subdirectory.
-
It is indeed fixed - but it does seem that scanning for new roms (at least from a local NAS), takes quite a long time.
-
I just checked and it seems to be fixed - thanks!!

If you're talking about the import wizard incorrectly asking you to specify a core, even when a default one is set, then yes it's our list and we are working to get that one fixed up
No, I'm talking about the bug which you confirmed earlier - "We've confirmed there is an issue with the import wizard and are able to reproduce what you're describing. The team are looking into this now." The problem was that the "scan for added roms" feature wasn't picking up the added roms (but was behaving as though it had).
Sorry, I know there's a lot to keep track of!
-
Any progress with the import wizard bug @AstroBob?
-
Think there might be something up with the "tools/scan for added (platform name) roms" feature with the current beta. There are a bunch of new roms in the NES folder; I do the scan, it says "searching for additional roms" - this seems to take quite a long time - around 2 minutes or so. I then get the "import ROMs from files wizard", asking me if I'd like to download metadata for my games. To me this suggests that it has found some new roms - otherwise it would say no new roms found. So I go ahead and select the media I want, and on the next screen tick "force importing duplicate games". On the "ready to import" window however there are 0 games. I click finish and it doesn't seem to import any.
-
Well I did the other things it suggested.....and it made no difference to the problem, unfortunately
.
-
Thanks - I'll take a look. The very first instruction seems out of date; I don't have the "content type reported to the display" option.
-
Any progress with this issue @Sbaby?
-
Improved auto-playlist logic seems to work as intended....bravo!

You can't download games from Launchbox. Launchbox is only a front end to display, manage and launch your games. You have to download the games elsewhere, and then you can put them into Launchbox.
Spine images - please allow for both left and right spines
