I would actually love to add android games and apps to the PC, but I only want to do it officially (as in with my android email address entered and using that account etc.) and I don't trust any of the emulators enough. I wish they'd release something official.

In the meantime, you might try Koplayer. I suggest it because a while back I was able to get it to work in Rocketlauncher. If I recall, its only a matter of associating the apk with the emulator, then having a program launch the apk like an exe. So basically just drag the apk into LB, and make sure its not set to use an emulator. It might work, might not. Been a while since I messed with that emu at all.

    thx for all awesome feedback

Nice guide, thanks for that. I wasn't aware of this emulator so thanks for the head's up there as well.

I use MESS (stand alone) for 5200 and Altirra for Atari 8-bit computers. I just upgraded to MAME 0.182 so I'll probably switch over to that for my 5200 stuff. Have you tried Kat5200 for the 8-bit computers? I use Altirra for that and it works well, just wondering how Kat5200 handles it.

could get 5200 to work with anything but kat mess, mame, altirria annoyed me you ar quite welcome

There is a newer version of Kat5200 available on EmuCR

if you are interested in updating the newest iteration has new video settings I believe I didn't test much as I find MAME so much easier to use.

    very interested thank you

  3. There is one prerequisite to playing Atari5200 games via emulator – and that’s the BIOS file. This ROM file can be found floating around the web, so it is up to you to obtain this file. It’s not too hard to find.

Next up, we need to get an emulator that can make this all happen. One such emulator is Kat5200. This can be googled

Now, you need to find a nice convenient place on your hard drive and create a folder for all of your Atari 5200 needs. In that folder, create a folder for all of your ROM images and another for the Kat5200 emulator. Now (assuming you downloaded the binaries archive), drag and drop all of the Kat5200 files from the archive folder you downloaded into the Kat5200 folder you made.

Now, place your 5200 rom file and place it somewhere in the Kat5200 emulator folder (it’s easier to find in the emulator after this way). Now, open up the emulator by double-clicking on the Kat5200.exe file.

You’ll probably get wizard that’ll guide you through the set-up process, but if you couldn’t get things to work, no worries, we’ll show you what you need to modify outside of the wizard. The first thing we need to do is get the emulator to detect the 5200 ROM BIOS file. For that, you click (or hover) your mouse on the “Machine” drop-down menu I’ve highlighted above. In the menu, you need to click on “Bios files”:

    abh25k.jpg

In the new screen, you’ll see a line for the Atari 5200 BIOS. Simply click on browse and use their built-in browser to find your BIOS ROM file (you can either use the “Up” button or double-click on the [..] line to go up a directory if need be). Once you have found the ROM file, click on it to highlight it and then click “Load”. Then, click on “OK” to leave the BIOS “window”. Cool! You’ve now pointed the emulator to the BIOS file needed to run the games!

Now, we need to find out the controls. Atari 5200 controllers, weirdly enough, look like large telephone’s complete with a number pad. This emulator will reflect that. To tweak the controls, simply click on the “Options” drop-down menu and click on “Input”:

    2aeugci.jpg

You’ll get a new window that looks something like this:

    30mo13a.jpg

To find out what each button does, click on the button on the left hand side (i.e. Top Button). On the right hand side in the line that says “PART NUM”, you’ll see a box with what key on your keyboard corresponds with the virtual controller. If you want to change this, simply click on the “Auto-Detect” button. A window will prompt you to press the key that you prefer to use. Press the key and not only will the window will disappear, but the new key will be featured in the “PART NUM” box. When you are done configuring your controller, click on the “OK” button.

The next part is to find out how to save and load states. This can be found by clicking on “Options” and “User Interface”:

    2w72yid.jpg

In the new window, you’ll notice that configuring these other options is much like setting up your virtual controller. There is one thing to note, however: there is a line “Device Num” is the key that you hold. The “Part Num” line is the key you press on your keyboard. So, for loading save state 1, you hold down Alt and press “1” as per the default. See below screenshot for this:

    ab30j6.jpg

Again, use Auto-Detect to change the keys. Generally, I found the default settings to be sufficient, but that’s just personal preference.

Finally, you get to load a game. Before you can load a game in the emulator, you have to make sure the game’s are not in a zipped or otherwise compressed archive. If you try to load a game in, say, a .7z archive, the emulator will simply crash after the Atari loading screen, complaining of a CPU crash. So, if your game is in an archived format, extract the .bin file in your ROMs folder first and load the .bin file instead. While the emulator can detect all of the files in the directory, it can only load certain kinds of files as a game.

Now, go into your emulator and click on the “File” drop-down menu. Next, click on “Load Rom”:

    imj5lz.jpg

In the new window, highlight the .bin file of the game you want to load and click “load”. You’ll go back to the previous screen, but the game is loading. If you feel like it’s taking to long to load, move the mouse around a little. Usually, by that time, you’ll get to the Atari loading screen.

When you want to exit the game, simply hit the “Esc” key on your keyboard. You’ll be taken back to the menu screen. You can go back to where you left off in the game by simply going into “File” and “Back to Game”. When you are done with the emulator, just go to “File” and “exit”

    That’s it!

    Happy gaming!

    FAQ

I’m trying to get the game to start, but nothing seems to be working. What’s going on?
Some games require you to hit a button to tell it that you are ready to play. By default, the F10 key will get the game started. This depends on whether or not you’ve changed the default keys (in which case, hit escape and look at the config file to see which of those is the Start button on your keyboard.

I have a game that keeps crashing even though it’s not in an archived format. What’s going on?
I found that rom images labelled “prototype” don’t do so well with this game. If it’s labelled “proto” or “prototype”, it might not be supported by the emulator.

The game still crashes and it’s a regular ROM image?
Could be the ROM in question. It could also be unsupported. Either find a different ROM or a different emulator in that case.

The game looks really small and it’s hard to see. How do I make it bigger?
In the emulator screen, go into “Options”, then “Video”. On the lower right hand part of the screen, you’ll see a pull down menu next to the word “Zoom”. I found 2x Zoom works comfortably well.

I don't know how you do it I really only play Retro games on Android and really have no interest in adding it to my computer. I do believe from my time using Bluestacks though it makes an application folder even Andy has a way to use the folders I remember using it not that long ago to setup Gamesome I was going to attempt to set it all up on the PC and move it to any SD for an Asus Zenfone 5 I got from a friend but I only did it one afternoon and that was over a month ago so I don't remember the details. Maybe this link can help you out and show you where Andy's files are located.

far more interested in adding my insane comic book collections now thanks for everything

  5. I saw that android is a platform option bt how the hell do we use it.. I mean I have nox on my systems but it doesn't even install to a normal location so its impossible to locate the app exe... Can this be done with bluestacks?

Again giving me files I don't have a clue about using with the movies is pointless... I created an acoount I got my API key etc but how the heck do we add movies to launchbox?

Creating a private server is extremely difficult and can be very costly for the proper hardware. I wouldn't doubt one exists for this game for Real Dreamcasts, but not for emulators. The best thing is to grab PSO Blue Burst for Windows. It was the final re-release for the game and has private servers running.

yeah man that's my backyard been doing private servers over 10 years now it helps to have a dedicated team in every corner of the earth though... Started creating servers for WoW then became an addict since then... There is a server though runs emulators and pc version i found it few hrs ago

It's also worth asking what the size of your library is, how many images and videos did you grab, if your install is done caching, and if you have a GPU. Your GPU isn't a slouch for mobile, but it's still a mobile CPU, and if you don't have a GPU, then the more and more you add to your library, the more and more it needs to load. If you only have a CPU, then the CPU is doing two jobs at once instead of 1. It's also worth noting that a GPU plays a bigger factor in to Big Box than it does LaunchBox.

console has gpu/cpu laptop has only cpu i guess im not letting it load well enough... it ran fast te first few times cause i had very little in it... on my laptop i have 37 systems and  over 15k games added to LB... Nothing close  to that on console yet

Or the games are using a different emulator. That error says a path is wrong. Click a game in this platform, Ctrl + A to highlight them all, Right Click -> Edit, choose emulator from the first drop down, then from the second drop down choose RetroArch. Thats how you change the emulator they're using. If it still says that, then change the path to RetroArch in the manage emulators screen.

done and done... nomore error it just doesn't do anything at all... this was my first time setting up sega saturn games cause on my laptop i am using hyperspin but i am now on my console doing it through RA...

Are you having problems with Launchbox / BigBox running slow and choppy on your system ?

If you are then please help us out with your systems specs. CPU make and clockspeed, ram, hard drive, video card and operating system. Please also include how many games you have imported.

To further help us help you start out with just the stock BigBox theme, user created themes can cause issues. Also go through all your games to get them all cached, the initial caching of images can really slow things down at first.

There are things you can do to make sure your computer is running as smoothly as possible.

First, defragment your hard drive, especially if your drive is older. This probably won't be a big if any performance gain but it doesn't hurt to do it. SSD's do not need to be defragmented, and the process can damage the SSD.

Second, make sure all your drivers are up to date. @SentaiBradrecommends using Advanced System Care and Driver Booster. Driver Booster is included inside of ASC, which is inside the. Download here: http://www.iobit.com/en/advancedsystemcarefree.php Advanced System Care's main options should all be ran at least once, depending on your needs, but these 3 options are the recommended options to run every 24-72 hours, or as needed. IOBit's Uninstaller should also be used from the toolbox when removing software. This will help keep your PC clean in the long run as it will remove left over files that Windows or uninstallers won't get rid of.

Third, disable all unnecessary system services. This is a little bit more advanced but you can really gain extra performance by doing this. I use the guides on http://www.blackviper.com/ Make sure you follow the guide for your OS version and read what each service does before setting it to disabled. If in doubt of a service simply set it to manual instead of auto and it will get turned on by Windows if needed. One example of a service that is always on but in very rare cases do I think anyone using a computer for retrogaming needs is the Print Spool service. Of course if you use your computer for emulation and printing stuff then you will need this service on but there are many useless services turned on by default. Turning off what is unnecessary can free up a lot of ram and CPU cycles that Launchbox can use to run faster and smoother.

Fourth, in some cases a video codec could be causing troubles and @SentaiBradrecommends the K-Lite Codec Pack Standard found here: https://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_standard.htm Let it fix any problems it finds.

Fifth, disable 3rd party Anti-Virus and firewall software if this is a strict emulation computer and not used for anything beyond that.

Sixth, disable the background images. Users have reported that disabling these have helped them out with performance. This is something I have always just done out of personal aesthetic preference so I have never actually tested this.

If after doing all of these things you are still having problems then you may need to look at some LaunchBox tweaks. I mentioned earlier about using the stock BigBox theme, I use this one on my low powered HTPC build and it performs just fine. I use the text games and platforms list and not the logo art. I also use just the box art and screenshots, no video files. The coverflow view with several images on screen at the same time can cause problems if your system is lower powered. Another thing to do is set your image quality to Medium, you really won't notice much of a difference if any sitting back on the couch 6-8 feet away compared to the higher quality settings. Low quality will look pretty ugly and won't help much in terms of performance anyways.

You can also go into the Options and then under System > RAM Cache you can try different settings to see how they affect your setup. If you have slow ram or limited amount setting this this to a smaller amount can help in some cases.

For reference I have Launchbox setup on 2 systems and things run fine on both.

    System one:
    Windows 8.1
    AMD 8350 @ 4 GHz
    16 gigs ram
    GTX 970 graphics card
    2 TB Western Digital Red
    10,000+ games

Launchbox runs perfectly smooth on this system with full settings and any theme view.

    System two:
    Windows 7
    AMD Athlon 3800+ @ 2.4 GHz
    2 gigs ram
    Radeon 7850 (1 gig DDR5 vram)
Some generic 160 gig hard drive
    2500+ games

This computer is an old Acer PC that was my parents before they upgraded and by todays standards is pretty much a toaster. Using all the tweaks I mentioned above I have Launchbox with the stock theme and text based lists running very smooth.

I never knew this was here thank you so much!

  10. Ok I am just wondering if there is some secret setup for Bigbox to run smooth each time because when I first started using it np at all i mean none...

Now it's laggy as hell choppy rough transitions startup video loops like crazy before ever opening up to big box... I mea damn enough!

with what i am running no way should I be dealing with these issues... Alienware custom built laptop and Alienware alpha gaming console... bigbox is slow and choppy on both systems wth.

  11. wow soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much history and beautiful memories for this amazing mmorpg!

If you never ever got to play you truly missed out on so much epicness I can't even breathe right now... Like many I met my first wife on this game lol.

Also got heavy into coding/scripting cause of custom weapon designs etc... Raising Mags, Farming weapons, Upgrading omg!

Now have a perfect copy on my DC emu and even used valid serial/access code to play! If there are no private servers for this badass game we will create them!

Demul will not load up bin, cue. It has to be either GDI or CDI. I will not link you to a valid set of roms but if you google search pleasuredrome or isozone you can get good sets from there.

roms are one thing i'll never need bud thanks for feedback!
