DOS76
Always trying to lock you into a contract and now your home internet will come with caps too. Of course this will probably become the norm. How do the caps work do you get shut down, throttled or charged an overage fee. (I opened a tab and searched this after typing and i see it will be in the form of fees from Comcast) I hate all of the carriers (home or mobile it makes no difference) they just seem like greedy profiteers trying to rape the public with there ever increasing prices based on the fact that your choices are few and far between. Limited competition in the market is almost the same as no competition in the market meaning we are all screwed in the end.
CadetStimpy
Ya know it's bad when your cable bill exceeds your car payment or grocery bill. I saw a commercial the other day (forgot about what), and they stated/claimed that 'being connected' is now a basic human necessity! That pissed me off. When I go for walks or bike rides, no ear-buds, or Smartphone in my hand - I look at my surroundings and think. Point being, just another step in brain-washing us to think we need a lot of things we don't. Don't get me wrong, I have withdrawal symptoms if I can't get Online. But I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account! In reference to your statement about competition, when I lived in San Antonio, TX, Time-Warner was pretty much your only viable option. I had the ol' 3-way bundle with 'em. I was thinkin' of getting a MagicJack (phone service), but when I called Time-Warner and asked how eliminating the phone from my bundle would affect my bill, they said it would go up, because I didn't have the full bundle. DOS76
I left Comcast for Verizon exactly for that same reason not that they are any better either it was just the last straw when they wouldn't eliminate a service that I didn't want or use unless I wanted to pay more. I just was tired of dealing with Comcast over the many long years. I had issues with Verizon Wireless jsut today. My brothers phone was out of contract but he had a device agreement going on his step-daughters line although he switched the phone to his number and he uses it so I simply (or so I thought) wanted to move the device agreement to my brothers number while shutting down the step-daughters line. Finally they did what I wanted but it took forever with customer service and that was after being told by the people at the store that I had to have my brothers phone with me in order to change anything. I hate them all, mostly because I am dependent upon their service while at the same time hating the way that they do business with people. CADScott
Wow you guys have it good there, at least you have some options. In Australia, we pay heaps for a really slow service, and almost every service is capped, and throttled when you reach your limit. I currently pay $90 a month for 30Mbit down 1Mbit up connection with 500GB download limit that is throttled to 256kbit when I hit my limit (This is only available on a 2 year contract and I am forced to have a landline that I do not want or use!) I dream of Gigabit with no caps.
DOS76
Wow that is terrible. I still feel like I'm being fleeced though but your scenario is much worse. I torrent like crazy so that would ruin my whole world.
CADScott
Yeah, it is a bummer when you want to get some of the big rom packs. I had to stop my Mame CHD download and split it over 2 months just so I could get it all without being throttled. It is very easy to go through 10% of my monthly limit in a night when I am getting larger games like Wii or PS2. It means I have to constantly watch my limit and plan when and what to download. But I am one of the lucky ones with cable service, most people use ADSL, and they have much slower connections. In my last house I paid a similar rate and only got 12Mbit connection, which dropped out when it rained! Pretty strange to have to plan large downloads for dry days. Lordmonkus
LOL I would trade my internet with most anyone. Mine is 90$ a month for 10 Mbit down, 1 Mbit up with 200 Gig cap and then throttled after that. I do for all intents and purposes live in the middle of a forest however and I am on wireless internet. Would be much better of I lived in the city.
