SentaiBrad
Yea, a lot of consoles do actually. Sega Genesis got an RPG in 2013? That got ported to everything, PC, modern consoles, even the Dreamcast. If people feel like it and they can make money doing it, thanks crowd funding, then it's going to happen. The RPG im talking about by the way is Pier Solar. It's really good actually. DOS76
Just downloaded Pier Solar and added it to LaunchBox I even found a mocked up Genesis cover to go with it. I played for a few minutes and it looks like it could have potential.
SentaiBrad
You shouldn't need a mock up cover, they did a super small physical release.
DOS76
well the 1st cover lauchbox found didn't look like a Genesis cover. Online I found covers for Genesis, Mega-Drive and MegaCD
DOS76
Any advantage in using the DreamCast version over the Genesis version.
SentaiBrad
They added some different stuff to that version of the game, but it's functionally the same game just with a different level of content. The PC and console versions... well the Ps4 versions are superior to the rest. You get tons of options.
Lordmonkus
My favourite version of Pier Solar to play is the Genesis version with the CD. I also have the PC version and I just didn't like the mix of standard and hd graphics, it looks weird to me. The Genesis version running through Retroarch with a shader just looks more "cohesive" I guess is the right word to me. There is a version floating around with the cd iso out there and running through RA will run the cd music with it.
SentaiBrad
Well first and foremost, purchase the game regardless of platform. It's like I say with Nintendo games, they give you easy ways to purchase it so please do that. At a certain point something falls in to the ambiguously grey and not-at-all legal term 'Abandonware', but these are hard working men and woman. Lordmonkus
Indeed, it is a game worth the money and purchasing the PS4 or the Steam version so you can have a legit copy. I still prefer to play the Genesis + CD audio version.
DOS76
WOW $70 for Genesis game in 2016 that's wild. What sucks for them is the day it hit market the ROM was probably dumped and available to get online.
SentaiBrad
It's that expensive because they had to buy those carts and print all those games. Games of that era used to be $70 back then, so $70 now is actually cheaper. It's a very small run on a dead format.
Lordmonkus
They did sell out all of the original print run and they made a 2nd print run and that completely sold out. They make their real money off the digital sales. The Dreamcast version at least isn't too expensive to get printed up.
SentaiBrad
Disc's are significantly cheaper. There are a few indie devs doing this sort of thing, if they can get guaranteed support and per-purchases why not do it? Publicity stunt, you make your fans and collectors happy. It is certainly a better idea to just purchase it on PC, PS3 or PS4. It might even be on Vita.
