Reading PDF files with a controller

Hi, Not really directly regarding LaunchBox, but when your in Big Box mode for example and select to view the manual, it opens it in your default PDF viewer. Which when sitting in the couch is a bit of a pain to stretch out for a mouse just to flick through it. So, does anyone know of any PDF viewers that supports controllers/gamepads? or any other solutions? I did a search on the forums and on google, but couldn't really find anything :/ Cheers :)

JoyToKey (there are other programs... XPadder seems to be popular). Make a profile associated with your PDF reader and your primary controller and go to town associating various keys with button inputs. You can even assign key combinations (for example, Alt + F4 can be assigned to a single button) and mouse inputs (for programs like this I sometimes assign the mouse to the right stick with the left click being clicking on the stick).

Cool, yeah I was thinking I would have to resort to using something like that, but I'm kind of shocked there is no PDF viewer out there with native controller support, even if only simple page flips etc. :/ Thanks for the reply, will have to try and set up my xpadder to do it :) Launchbox support for pdf files would be really awesome, but yeah, I'm sure you got plenty of more important features :) Cheers

I found a cleaner solution that may work for you.

Use AHK to create a new application: "ChromePDFs"

Quote

Run, chrome.exe --chrome-frame -Kiosk "%1%"

Change the Windows file association for PDFs to that "ChromePDFs.exe"

Use JoytoKey or xPadder to create a new app-specific profile and add customize as follows:

Quote

"Zoom in button": "Ctrl" + "+"

"Zoom Out Button": "Ctrl" + "-"

"Zoom Reset": "Ctrl + "0"

"Exit Button": "Alt" + "F4"

Left, right, down, up = self explanatory
