Beatlemaniac19
Voted for the ticket. @SentaiBrad thanks for the tutorial. Looking forward to watching it :)
Chaosmountain
alissongamer Thank you for giving some actual SPECIFIC info on how to set it up!!! I actually already tried that and also used the L3 & R3 buttons on a 360 controller and neither way would exit from the MAME, although both ways would exit from ePSXe. But when exiting from ePSXe it would ask for a confirmation which I would have to use the "enter" key on the keyboard to select YES and confirm the exit from the emulator. But when using the ESC key on the keyboard it does not require the confirmation, and using the ESC key on the keyboard in any other EMU also does not require any other confirmation or key stroke, it just exits to BigBox. @ DOS76 I also just voted for your suggestion of the controller controls..... But honestly, I don't see why it would be so difficult to just make some kind of shortcut or code to allow one of the L3 or R3 buttons to be linked to the ESC button on the keyboard ?!?!?!?! He/they seemed to have done way harder coding in the software/program!!!!!! One thing that would have put this software on the top of the hill like many many versions ago!!!!!!!!!!! SentaiBrad
This is more powerful then mapping Esc to a button. AHK works on almost everything. It still works here, just ePSXe has this dialogue. In the most recent version of ePSXe, in the options you can disable this. You should also be able to press your button combination again to then close this dialogue box. Chaosmountain
Okay I will check it out. Currently I have v2.0.2 and I did see a few days ago they released v2.0.5 and I already have had it for a few days but I have not messed with it yet. But for the life of me I still can not exit MAME without using the ESC button on the keyboard and right now those are the only two EMU's I am using in BB, MAME and PSX. So it kind of sucks having to use the keyboard all the time and it would be nice to be able to just have to push one button to exit any emulator which is why I suggested some type of shortcut linked to the ESC key or command of a keyboard. And yeah, that is me over on Bitbucket about the RetroArch style hotkey.
SentaiBrad
I need to re-import my MAME system since there was an update Wednesday, but I will see if it's working for me. I have everything still set up the way I did it for the Controller Automation tutorial that goes up in about 50 min.
Chaosmountain
Okay, now before you mentioned that there was an option to disable the exit confirmation I also thought I had see that somewhere in the last version, 2.0.2 but I could not find it and using the escape key did not produce the exit confirmation dialogue. Now I went through everywhere on the newest version and I can not find anywhere to disable it. It's weird because when I start ePSXe directly there is no sony loading screen, like when you turn on the actual hardware, and no exit confirmation screen, but when launched through BB the sony intro screen is there and there is an exit confirmation screen. Also pushing the "Close the Active Window" and "Hold" button does make the exit confirmation box go away for about a tenth of a second and it comes right back, so fast you can basically always see it so that's not work for me either. And I am using 6.3 beta 10. I saw that there was an update to MAME also the other day, OY VEY!! LOL!! I am still on 0.172 but have everything to update to 0.174 just have not gotten around to it yet then I saw there was a new update!!
SentaiBrad
There's gonna be a MAME update every month. The Sony boot up screen is related to BIOS. If there are BIOS Screen options then you can turn this off or on. So there might be something in the command line parameters that messes this up. ePSXe for example, needs -nogui for sure in order to load properly within LB and BB. Have you tried mednafen PS1 on RetroArch?
Chaosmountain
Hey Okay so I thought of something and did this, I changed the -slowboot to -fastboot and now it skips the sony loading screen and goes right into the start of the game. Now could/is there some kind of a command line that would possibly get rid of that exit confirmation screen ? Because it only does it when launched through BB. Like I said, when launching ePSXe alone neither of those things happen.
DOS76
There is a post on the forum discussing this you need to change the controller plug-in with one from PCSX2 and this plug-in has a checkbox to turn off confirmation.
Chaosmountain
Okay, the LilyPad-0.11.0-20150505.dll plugin from PCSX2 did the trick. Here is the thread if anyone else needs to do it. https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/emulation/hekp-epsxe-2-0#p13774 Thanks for all the help everyone!! Now to get MAME to close and exit back to BigBox as that one still does not want to work without having to use the ESC key on the keyboard. SentaiBrad Let me know if yours works to exit MAME as I have tried all kinds of stuff and just can not get it to exit from BigBox or LB. lordmonkus said The paid premium version allows you to set up and exit key press using your controller or you can use xpadder to set up your own if you dont have the paid premium version of Launchbox. Xpadder worked for me before I bought the premium version. How did you set it up with Xpadder ? I have also tried everything I can think of with Xpadder, starting from scratch trying to bind different buttons on the 360 controller to the ESC key and even trying my config. files from my hyperspin setup but nadda!! Beatlemaniac19
I have an idea that might work to make controller automation much easier...if this idea works. Do any of you know if the chatpad accessory (the keyboard accessory for online chat) for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 has detectable keys on your PC? If the chatpad works, it could be a saving grace. The chatpad gives you 30+ additional keys for all of these controllers. If you hit CTRL + ESC or Backspace, then you could use that as your exit emulator hotkey. The other hotkeys can be easily modifiable too if the chatpads work in LaunchBox and the emulators. SentaiBrad
You may need to check the box to use every available controller for this. I don't know if the functionality is included in the drivers, if InputMapper handles a chat pad or if a secondary driver is required for it to work. Chaosmountain
Just show me a simple way to exit MAME on a 360 controller in BB without having to use the ESC key on a keyboard!!!! It can't be that hard for ONE emulator that has to be the most popular EMU of all time!!! EDIT: Any way from any controller other than having to use the ESC key on the keyboard!! Chaosmountain
Okay, so today I was thinking about it and remembered you can globally change key bindings in MAME so I did this, Hit the TAB key while in any game to bring up the settings menu and select "Input (general)" Then "User Interface" Then I scrolled down until I found "UI Cancel" binded to the "ESC" key, Then I pushed the "A" button on my 360 controller, or you can use the "ENTER" key, to clear the binding then I just pushed in my left thumbstick, which is "L3", which is "Joy 1 Button 8" Now the L3 button works as the ESC key on the keyboard so while in BigBox and playing a MAME game pushing in L3 closes right out of MAME and returns to BB!!! But there still should be some kind of custom controls in BB and Lb to let you do custom key bindings so people can be keyboard free at least enough to play games between emus!! Beatlemaniac19
@Chaosmountain thanks for the PM and I totally agree with you :) Also, thanks for you due diligence in getting it set up with MAME. This is such a relief now and I can finally play MAME without the external keyboard headache. Also, thanks @SentaiBrad. Your tutorial on controller automation was great. Much appreciative for you listening to this thread and creating a video. Props. Also, maybe it would be a good idea to put an annotation in the video to this thread and/or edit the description of the video to link to this thread. Chaosmountain
Sometimes I could just KIK myself in the @$$!!!!!! I have the R3 button set up to pause while in an arcade game in MAME and it never crossed my mind about setting it up in MAME to exit the emu with the L3 button!!! DOHH!!! Then when I thought of it I was not sure if it would work and when I tested it, it worked in MAME when launched directly so then I tried it in BB and it worked and I was like HELL YEAH!!!!!! LOL!!! I hate it when you spend a ton of time trying to get something to work and then it ends up being something simple you should have thought of in the first place!! Chaosmountain
And there must be a LOT of people that would like more control with an external controller without having to have to use a keyboard because this thread has had a TON of views, more than any thread in this section for quite a few pages except one and that was also about mame, something to do with artwork, and one about buying BB premium or something to that effect. And whats nice is you can drop the BB .exe into your startup folder and it will start when you turn on your system and then you can turn off your PC/HTPC dedicated gaming system within BB all from your controller!!! Well, at least now I can now that I figured out how to exit MAME while in BB!!!
SentaiBrad
Putting it in the startup folder is one way, but there are better ways to get it to start and we have users who have it replace the Windows Explorer shell actually.

SentaiBrad
For what...? Still about the controller automation? I am working on my CHD pack. Once that's done I can import it and test it.
