I have an old laptop with Windows 10 64 bit that won't run RetroArch at all the program crashes immediately when ever you try to run it. So if you are using older hardware that could be the issue. Based on the error though you may be missing things from your runtime library google the error message and you will probably find results.

And remember, now that you are on Windows 64 bit, you will commonly need both versions of Software. x86 = 32bit and x64 = 64bit. So when you download RetroArch updated make sure to get the 64bit build, and with these packages make sure to install both version. If you download one and it says you have it installed already just skip it. I don't think these are all of the packages, but it's a good start. Since you also just re-install Windows, every time I do I use https://ninite.com/ to install packages I need for my system and it makes things go by quickly. The only one I don't use from Ninite is the Steam install because I don't want Steam on my C drive, everything else I want on my C drive. I would make sure you at least get the "Runtimes" from the list. Latest Supported Visual C++ Downloads http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2019667 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most commonly used packages : Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328 Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5582 Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5638 There are x64 Bit Packages if needed : Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=13523 Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=2092 Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=18471

Curiously, what PS1 core are you using? If the rest of your cores are working then this core could have been corrupted during download, it was built to GitHub wrongly so the download just doesn't work (even our updates sometimes do this), or that version of RetroArch could be bugged. The Mednafen PS1 core is the suggested core, and make sure to not use the one that has "hw" in the name, it's extremely buggy right now and is clearly in alpha.

Yea you only need the Cores for the systems you want. You download them in the Online Updater. I think I've told you this before, but I do suggest you watch the tutorials that I created. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6pTDaHeAz-WMcNURVPU-1xLN_TVpT3FB

  • 5 months later...

Was this problem ever resolved? I'm having the same issue with the snes9x_next_lbretro core. All of the runtimes and software are correct/updated. All the other RetroArch cores work in Launchbox and the SNES games run fine if I use RetroArch without LB. Kinda stumped as to why thisnis happening and any help would be appreciated.

Most games are fine in the Snes9x-Next core but overall it is one of the least accurate and compatible Snes core. But anyways that shouldn't matter to your error.

It is very weird that all the other cores are working and only the Snes one doesn't work through Launchbox but does work just through Retroarch on it's own. If it's working just through RA on it's own and not in LB then there has to be a configuration problem. Are your roms zipped or extracted and do you have the extract roms before running box checked ?
