gizmo
hi we have got the lastest version of retroarch and using windows 10 64bit but seem to be having problems with retroarch error microsoft visual c++runtime library runtime error retroarch.exe any ideas why this is happening thanks
DOS76
I have an old laptop with Windows 10 64 bit that won't run RetroArch at all the program crashes immediately when ever you try to run it. So if you are using older hardware that could be the issue. Based on the error though you may be missing things from your runtime library google the error message and you will probably find results. DOS76
Microsoft offers the C++ library for download on their website there are a lot of different packs and I'm uncertain about which one you might need.

SentaiBrad
And remember, now that you are on Windows 64 bit, you will commonly need both versions of Software. x86 = 32bit and x64 = 64bit. So when you download RetroArch updated make sure to get the 64bit build, and with these packages make sure to install both version. If you download one and it says you have it installed already just skip it. I don't think these are all of the packages, but it's a good start. Since you also just re-install Windows, every time I do I use https://ninite.com/ to install packages I need for my system and it makes things go by quickly. The only one I don't use from Ninite is the Steam install because I don't want Steam on my C drive, everything else I want on my C drive. I would make sure you at least get the "Runtimes" from the list. gizmo
thanks for your reply i have installed retroarch 64bit , installed c++ for both i still get the same error on retroarch when opening playstation games , runtime error closed in unsall way , but i dont understand why the other systems dont work as i have installed all the cores and updated in retroarch
SentaiBrad
Curiously, what PS1 core are you using? If the rest of your cores are working then this core could have been corrupted during download, it was built to GitHub wrongly so the download just doesn't work (even our updates sometimes do this), or that version of RetroArch could be bugged. The Mednafen PS1 core is the suggested core, and make sure to not use the one that has "hw" in the name, it's extremely buggy right now and is clearly in alpha. DOS76
Do you have the PS1 bios files I believe that you need 3 different files.
gizmo
these are the core files thats in retroarch
SentaiBrad
Yea you only need the Cores for the systems you want. You download them in the Online Updater. I think I've told you this before, but I do suggest you watch the tutorials that I created. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6pTDaHeAz-WMcNURVPU-1xLN_TVpT3FB

Snaketocopter
Was this problem ever resolved? I'm having the same issue with the snes9x_next_lbretro core. All of the runtimes and software are correct/updated. All the other RetroArch cores work in Launchbox and the SNES games run fine if I use RetroArch without LB. Kinda stumped as to why thisnis happening and any help would be appreciated.
Lordmonkus
Do any of the other Snes cores such as snes9x (not snes9x_next) or BSnes work ? Not sure why you would want to use Snes9x_Next anyways since it is the least compatible of the Snes cores. Use either Bsnes Balanced or just the plain Snes9x core. Snaketocopter
The snes9x next core hasn't given me any compatibility issues and works fine when running RetroArch alone. However, I also downloaded both of the cores you listed(and made the appropriate command line edits for the emulator in Launchbox) and for each one I still got the same error. Lordmonkus
Most games are fine in the Snes9x-Next core but overall it is one of the least accurate and compatible Snes core. But anyways that shouldn't matter to your error. It is very weird that all the other cores are working and only the Snes one doesn't work through Launchbox but does work just through Retroarch on it's own. If it's working just through RA on it's own and not in LB then there has to be a configuration problem. Are your roms zipped or extracted and do you have the extract roms before running box checked ? Snaketocopter
The Roms are in the end format. I'm assuming they don't need to be extracted. I've tried running it with the extract Roms before running box checked and unchecked and still no go. If nothing else I can use a different emulator for snes. It just would have been more convenient to use RetroArch.
Lordmonkus
Something weird is going on, can you post some screenshots ? One of your Snes roms folder, one of your emulator settings and one of the associated platforms tab in the edit emulator window.
Snaketocopter
Figured it out. In manage emulators, I had to rename Super Nintendo Entertainment System to Nintendo SNES. I had changed the system name for a more uniform look in the list on the left side, but I guess I needed to change it in the command line settings too
SentaiBrad
If you changed the paltform names too, make sure to open up manage system, open the system who's name you changed, and make sure to set the Scrape As in here so that it can grab the proper metadata from the proper platform too, if you haven't already.
