ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 On latest LB version 6.8, Win 10 x64. Every time I launch a dreamcast demul game from regular Launchbox, Launchbox crashes right after extracting the rom. Rocket launcher is used for Dreamcast and works fine outside of Launchbox. The weird thing is that if I launch the same games from Bigbox, the same games launch and work fine! After they launch fine in Bigbox, then they will launch ok in Launchbox, but only until I delete/clear the rom cache folder contents where the game rom .7z files are extracted to. So it seems like Launchbox only crashes if it has to wait for the rom to be extracted by RL. However, Bigbox is just fine if the rom has to be extracted first. Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 Oh no!! Same exact issues now with Nintendo Gamecube games. =( Except that my Gamecube uses Dolphin. The emulator and game will continue to run and work after LB crashes. I'm not sure if it only started after upgrading from 6.7 to 6.8 or something else. But it seems to have only started after I upgraded to 6.8. I hope someone can help with this. Quote
Jason Carr Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Hi @ckp, are you getting any error messages? Or just a crash? Is it only happening when extracting game archives? Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 I grabbed a memory dump of launchbox.exe with procdump for this crash which may help the developer, but I need to know who wants it and I will provide them with a dropbox link or some other way. Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 Hi Jason, the best I can tell is that a crash popup (i believe produced by Win 10 OS) about lunchbox stopped working comes up right after the extraction and start of the game/emulator. The only way I have found to get around this from happening is to launch the game from Bigbox and then try it in Launchbox. But as soon as the extracted game cache folder is cleared, Launchbox will crash again. I ran Microsoft's procdump tool with the wait-for-exception switch on lunchbox.exe and it caught the exception if you want it. IT's might not too helpful, but here is what Windows logs about it in the Event Viewer: Faulting application name: LaunchBox.exe, version: 6.8.0.0, time stamp: 0x57bc75ea Faulting module name: libvlccore.dll, version: 2.2.2.0, time stamp: 0x00000000 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x0000000000079c17 Faulting process id: 0x14ec Faulting application start time: 0x01d1ff1138f71508 Faulting application path: R:\LaunchBox\LaunchBox.exe Faulting module path: R:\LaunchBox\VLC\x64\libvlccore.dll Report Id: 6dd4559b-81d1-46e7-8f5b-f6199bb34fc3 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: This is a major bummer. DOS76 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 You can .zip it and add it as an attachment right here on this page if you want Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 This event viewer message is also logged by .NET Runtime: Application: LaunchBox.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 I'm not really ok with uploading a zip of my computer's memory to a public forum for security reasons, but I can give it to you somehow in a less public way. Quote
DOS76 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 You could email it to jasondavidcarr@gmail.com that is the developer he is the only one who would probably have any interest Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 Excellent. I emailed it just now. Thanks. Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 Since I only just realized the event log noted a problem with VLC, which I had recently set in options, I decided to set it back to Win media player and try it. No more problem. Seems that the VLC included with Launchbox is related to the problem. Quote
DOS76 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 That's interesting I'll see if I can duplicate it. Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 I'm not sure why it worked in Bigbox. I don't see a setting to choose Win media player or VLC like in Launchbox. In Bigbox I just see it uses VLC in Options/Videos. Quote
Jason Carr Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Hi @ckp, there is a setting in Big Box under Videos to change between VLC and WMP. You're saying that you're getting this crash when launching games from LaunchBox only when VLC is enabled in LaunchBox? Does this have anything to do with extracting games? Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 My videos are mp4 in case that helps to reproduce it. Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 oh yeah the top setting lets you change in big box. but it was set to vlc already in big box. Quote You're saying that you're getting this crash when launching games from LaunchBox only when VLC is enabled in LaunchBox? Does this have anything to do with extracting games? Yes, it only crashes when I have videos set to VLC in Launchbox. I doubt it has anything to do with "extracting" of games, but maybe that RocketLauncher activity and screen during extraction and possibly a transition from LB playing the video to a game going full screen is causing an issue somehow. Hopefully this is easy to reproduce so you can see yourself. I hope the memory dump also gives you a clue. Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 And just to be extra sure, I can toggle VLC and Media player and reproduce this every time when VLC is used. On each toggle I start so the game has to be extracted. I liked VLC better because I could pause the side bar video just by clicking on it. That doesn't seem to work when using Media Player. Quote
ckp Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 ok, well at least i can right click and choose pause when using media player Quote
