NeoGeo and CPS roms in Retroarch

Recommended Posts

I apologise if this has come up before, but I am having a hell of time getting NeoGeo roms and CPS1, CPS2, and CPS3 Roms running.  I am using Retroarch and have followed the tutorial videos.

As far as I can tell I am updating my cores (FBA_Libretro) and I have placed the neogeo.zip (bios) in my roms folder.  When I attempt to run a rom, it either flat out does not do anything or by running a few of the different cores the roms start to boot and seem to hang at around 90%.

If anyone has a fix for this, or any helpful tips I would be incredibly grateful.  So far my experience with launchbox has been great, if I can just crack this nut it will be nigh on perfect.  Thanks in advance

I forget, is FBA different from most cores in that it wants the bios in the same folder as the roms? Most cores want bios files in the "system" folder.

Based on this post over at Libretro it sounds like you've got it correct though (assuming it hasn't changed since then - that was from over a year ago). You could always copy it into your system folder just to be safe (and to test), it won't hurt anything.

Thanks for the replies.  I'm just back from work so i will have another bash at this.  I admit i was missing the sound.zip file. I started building a barter using a Raspberry pi 3 and have had no issues getting neogeo roms running on retroarch.

Its pretty clear the issue isn't with Launchbox, I'm either doing something wrong or retroarch, is just not playing ball for me.  When i get a chance i will copy my command line for Launchbox and would appreciate some more experienced eyes giving it a look over.

Will also try a fresh install of Retroarch, at this point i am willing to try anything.

Thanks again.

Hmm, the fbalpha_libretro.dll core should work for both NeoGeo and CPS games, they work for me.

For you CPS games do you have the qsound.zip bios file ?

Do the games load fine just straight through Retroarch ?

well fort start i use windows 10 in a gaming pc and online retro gaming sites runs well i even thing I envy how fine you can play any available rom for cps 123 and neo geo aswell. Anyhow i also use lounchbox i dont know if upgrading it will help in the issue Or is only a better front end. I recently got a Raspberry pi 4 and i am using lakka, i am searching for something better but for the "pi4b" stable are only a verry few front end and os available out there. (My main language is not English so, my apologies in case some one has issues understand what i am writing). Back to the topic I recently found my self using separate emulators and i found that most neo geo and fba roms pley well and without a lot of issue on for example mess, or m2emulator and others. My point i will tray today downloading louchbox againg and yes use retroarch but setting up cps and neo geo with final burn (not from retroarch online updater but from main page) also with a few good mame and coin up arcade emulator softwares. PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPLEASE ANY HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS: I HAVE ALSO A RS 97 & since the filmware crash a lot i am traying also installing pymenu or any front end available for this hand held divices. If there is lounch box version for rasberry pi or the rs 97 i'll tray that also!

Thnaks a lot me@pr

Your post is extremely difficult to understand but I think I get the basic idea of what you are trying to ask and say.

Launchbox or any front end won't help you run a game if you can't run it in the emulator on its own and when it comes to arcade emulation it is highly recommended to match your rom set to the emulator version.

For other devices such as a Pi or RS97 we do not provide support, Launchbox is not available for those devices, only Windows and Android.
