Laser Razor
Hi there. I followed a launchbox youtube tutorial from September: In it, it says to download and update cores inside of retroarch. Well, I am new to all this, so I have done some digging. As I am sure you already know, the cores have been changed since this video from mednafen to beetle. Following this tutorial, and using the most up-to-date retroarch, as well as going to online updates for cores... I cannot find a beetle core for Sega Saturn. The only one listed is Yabause. I see beetle for PSX, gameboy, etc... nothing for Saturn. Am I missing something? Attached is a screen shot. Thank you!
Lordmonkus
Try updating the core info files first. If that doesn't work you can download it manually here http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/windows/x86_64/latest/
neil9000
Are you using 32bit retroarch?
Lordmonkus
Yeah if you are using the 32 bit version I don't believe there is a 32 bit version of the core.
neil9000
Just now, lordmonkus said: Yeah if you are using the 32 bit version I don't believe there is a 32 bit version of the core. Laser Razor
That was it lol... I feel like a fool. I specifically remembered downloading the 64bit..... Maybe my mouse slipped. Thank you so much for your help guys
neil9000
lol, no probs.
Laser Razor
Although I will say, uninstalling... reinstalling... starting a game import over again from scratch, using the -L "cores\mednafen_saturn_libretro.dll" under associated platforms... still comes up blank. I click the game and get a blue loading circle on my cursor for a moment, then.... nothing. Any other clues as to what it could be?
Lordmonkus
Do you have the proper bios and named correctly ? If you do you may want to check your disk images, Mednafen and the RA core are very particular over them.
neil9000
Do you have the bios files?
neil9000
To slow.
Laser Razor
I do have the BIOS. It may be the image. It was labeled Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and my OCD wanted it to read the Japanese title Akumajou Dracula X. I must have messed it up in the rename. ... ... Yep, that was it. Works great now! Thank you again!
Laser Razor
Now I just need to figure out how to make it boot JAP over US BIOS
Lordmonkus
I think it auto detects based on the game, not something you can choose. You need all the bios files.
Laser Razor
I am using mpr-17933 & sega_101 Do know which one is the Japanese BIOS?
Lordmonkus
sega_101 To check your bios, load the core the go to Information then Core Information in Retroarch. It will show you if you have the correct bios or not.
Laser Razor
It says "present, required" so I assume that means its in tact. I tried 2 Japanese games, and 1 US game. Castlevania loads the BIOS, but reads no CD. Sonic Jam US and Guardian Heros JP dont load the emulator at all. Not sure whats going on. All settings are the same across the board. Lordmonkus
If you get to the time / date screen you will have to skip through that but you will only have to do that once per game, every time you load that game after that it will just load it. If you are having problems getting to that screen and RA is saying you have the bios present then you most likely need proper disk images. Try the "organization of archives". Laser Razor
So changing the organization fixed the games not going to BIOS, but now all games wont load after the BIOS, even in the CD loading screen. I have tried several BIN/CUE's from my personal collection downloaded others from sites. It seems to be always loading in the US BIOS, no matter the game I select. I checked the system folder of RetroArch and it is just the 2 BIOS in there now. Both are listed as well in the Core Information. But yeah, it wont load automatically, or even if I push the load button. Just takes me to system settings menu of the Saturn I have gone over the file organization over and over again. Everything is in tact. Scratching my head on this one...
SentaiBrad
Or you could have a bad BIOS too. Bad disc images and bad BIOS are extremely common.
