Dexll
Hey All, Couple questions: Is there a way I can import my MAME roms into LaunchBox based on a pre-filtered mame.xml file I hand groomed from HyperSpin? During the LaunchBox Arcade/Mame rom import wizard, how does it know if an Arcade game is Unplayable, Casino, Mature, Quiz, etc.? Is it from the C:\LaunchBox\MetaData\Mame.xml or is it from the online LaunchBox database? I ask because i want to be sure the roms from the latest Mame updates (i.e. 0.185) are accounted for. Thank you for taking a moment to read. Cheers!
DOS76
well they won't be accounted for I believe the importer is using either 0.174 or 0.175 currently.
Dexll
Then how do you keep your LaunchBox Arcade database current with each new version of Mame? I want new games and games that go from unplayable to playable to show in my list.
DOS76
I don't. Even though I regularly update MAME I don't bother with researching what games have been made playable and manually maintaining the changes in LB I'm just waiting for the importer to be updated someday. Dexll
Whelp, anyone have any tips on how they keep their Arcade database current? Or better yet, how to customize your collection/database?
SentaiBrad
Our MAME Database needs updating, but it's kind of complicated. The LaunchBox Games Database is completely different then the MAME stuff. When you import MAME games in LaunchBox, you get the MAME importer that will give you all the filtering options based on our internal MAME database. You can't import an XML, but it works very similarly. I don't think there have been too many changes from .174 to .185, or at the very least we haven't gotten a ton of reports. From what I can tell, the most recent major updates are for games that are already playable, audio and shaders, which don't require and update. If I am wrong, please let me know, but .185 split or non-merged will import fine.
DOS76
http://wiki.mamedev.org/index.php/Previous_MAME_Versions If you click on any version in there it will open to a page that tells you all the new ROMs and clones promoted to working from each version. DOS76
unfortunately it only give the game name though and not the rom name.
cleverest
I'm importing 0.192 (cause my previous 0.185 is all ganked...I'm assuming launchbox arcade/mame importer is not up to date with this, but what version IS is updated to and any way to make this a cleaner import? (want to omit non-working games, or even better would be cool if LB could import the game, but tag it as "Broken"
