I am curious, those with living room setups,  how did you make sure all your games functioned and had controls set up.  Mainly for MAME, did you go through each game to set the controls? (potentially a lot of games!)  It seems like every time I want to show someone my LaunchBox setup, the game they want to try either has issues or i have to manually go in and set up the controls.  It detracts from the experience.   I know for consoles, the set up is a lot easier because all the games use the same buttons and its just a matter of knowing what does what.  MAME is a completely different animal.   Suggestions, feedback?

With Mame you can set your "general" controls which will be the base for every game but you will need to go through and tweak for certain games like Street Fighter or Smash TV.

Start with setting up your Arcade controls controller to the MAME defaults. Then just tweak the games that require it. 95% will be fine. I use a different joystick for Q-bert for example for obvious reasons.
