oilersman
hi, so when i play games in a whole other front end like maximus, my game visual experience looks great. When i am in launchbox i get a total diff view of my games. almost looks cartoonish, just no quality, and it does play full screen. Is there some way to fix this? Lordmonkus
Launchbox doesn't do anything to affect the look of your games. If your emulator is setup correctly and you use the correct command line switches where necessary they will look the way the should. If you can provide some screen shots of the differences you are talking about maybe we can figure out what is happening.
oilersman
Hi. Ok, looks like I need to change the screen resolution within the version of Mame in launchbox which is diff than the version of Mame in the other front end. Really difficult to get into the Mame in launchbox. 2 pics (sorry screenshot on phone) Hard to see differences here but on my arcade its major. Ha ha
oilersman
Oh ya, the top one is the one that's looks the greatest and is in maximus arcade with a diff version of Mame.
Lordmonkus
The what now ? There is no "version of Mame in Launchbox" only the Mame you have installed and told Launchbox to use.
oilersman
Oh yes, sorry. I know, I meant the one version in launchbox came with a full working set of Roms. I did pick that version of course. I'm just trying to get lb to work better as I would like to try the premium version. I think I need to find a way to change the screen resolution within that version. Thx for you help though.
Lordmonkus
So you bought a pre-configured hard drive with Launchbox on it and roms ?
oilersman
No, I dloaded a full Rom set with Mame. I've configured lb to use that emulator and Roms. That's what I meant by the version in launchbox. I meant I installed it. My issue was it just doesn't output the video like a diff version of Mame. I don't use the other version because it doesn't play most of the Roms I have configured in LB.
Lordmonkus
Ok, the way you worded it made it sound like you got some pre installed system with Launchbox, Mame and roms because of how you said "Launchbox version" and "Maximus Arcade" version. Also you said "really difficult to get into the Mame in Launchbox". By the looks of your pictures your aspect ratio is set to stretch. If you are using a UI version of Mame you will want to open it and look for the video option to turn on keepaspect or if you are using the command line version open the mame.ini file and look for the line keepaspect and make sure it is set to 1. DOS76
If you are using the command line version you can open MAME without any game loaded and go to configure options and then video and set enforce aspect ratio to true also if you aren't comfortable messing around with the .ini file. oilersman
Ok. Do I have to create a Mame. Ini file? I have no idea where it is. I can not open mame to get into configuration. When I click my Mame exe it just gives me a notepad with instructions. In cmd I don't know how to open the Mame cmd.
DOS76
I don't know then the MAME.exe should not open notepad it should open MAME's built in UI so I suggest you try to get another copy of the program and try again.

The MAME ini should be in the root of your MAME folder, but like @DOS76 said if you don't have that and your MAME.exe/MAME64.exe open notepad then something is wrong with your install. Here are a couple of shot's of where my MAME ini is and the option you need to change to 1 to keep the correct aspect ratio.
