johnnyskullhead Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Hi Sorry to post again looking into doubling ram to 16 gb will it have any effect while retrogaming ? Thanks Dean Quote
johnnyskullhead Posted October 30, 2017 Author Posted October 30, 2017 sorry currently 8gb AMD 8350 with Nvidia 1060 GPU Quote
DOS76 Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 having 16GB will improve your system overall and may help with LB/BB how it effects the actual retrogaming eh I don't know seems like NES games play just as well with 4GB or RAM as they do 8 or 16 Quote
mothergoose729 Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Probably not, but it might make windows and launchbox more responsive. There are emulators that use a lot of memory for shader caching, and you can see marginal improvements in performance when you are able to fully cache all your shaders. 8gb is a lot of memory though, and these memory leaks have largely been fixed by driver updates. So no, not likely, but it can't hurt. Quote
Retro808 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I have 3 machines set up. 8GB test machine and my two arcades have 16GB and 32GB. In retro gaming I see no real performance change in emulation especially with older consoles. The CPU is where the benefit is. What I do see is better performance out of LB/BB. Especially on the heavier use themes. Quote
johnnyskullhead Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 Thanks for all help Launchbox is bit slower now, so it may be worth for a speed boost while navigating within it Again Thanks to all Quote
