Jkbork
I got mame working but dont want to import a full set of roms. Is there any way to import individual games?
DOS76
yes but it requires that you have games in a non-merged format to ensure they aren't dependent on other files in the MAME set.
Jkbork
Thanks, ill try that.
Jkbork
Is there a way to get non merged roms without a split romset?
Lordmonkus
Yes. Just download it from a reputable site.

MAME is very flexible in regards to rom location and doesn't care where they are. If you already have a split set or a least a partial set, you can try the following if downloading a new set isn't an option. Create a secondary folder beside your current MAME rom folder and add only the roms you want to import into LaunchBox. For example akarnoidu.zip if the want the US version. Leave all the parent roms in your current folder. Make sure in your Mame.ini the rompath is set to both those folders. (You can set this through MAME's UI as well) In Launchbox just import the folder you made with your games, and should work fine. (Assuming you have the required roms needed for each game)
DOS76
ah yeah I misread that as you didn't want to have a full set if you do already have one then yes you can import select games as long as MAME knows where the complete ROM set is so it can access the secondary ROMs that it might need. Reviving this old thread. So I still gotta have the full mame set on my computer? Just not neccessarily in Launchbox!?
Lordmonkus
You do not need a full set at all but you have to be very careful with how you go about it. If you use a Non Merged Mame set to pull out individual games from it will make your life much easier. If you use a Split or Merged set it will be more tricky and time consuming because you will need to pull out any bios required and parent roms if using a clone region rom, ie: US version of Pac Man will require the Japan region Puck Man rom to work. Once you have your functioning set you want to use then you just import like regular consoles, not use the full set import tool.

I have a non merged set of the games, where each game is one zip with a bunch of files in them. But there seems to be so many versions of each game, do I need them all? Lordmonkus
You don't need them all with a Non Merged set, each one is a different region, pick the regional version you want.

Lordmonkus
Then you have something setup incorrectly, likely you haven't added the rom path to the mame.ini file. I use a hand picked rom set myself and imported into LB so I know for sure it works.
12shiko
Do you still need to edit the ini-file if you use the default "roms" directory in the mame folder?
Lordmonkus
No.
