Gangor
I want to make sure I'm heading the right direction here before I kick off another huge ROM set download. I just got back into this after a few year sideline and am re-learning everything. I just downloaded the MAME 0.222 split ROM set and see that it mostly works in launchbox with a few errors that need to be investigated, but recall I liked using RetroArch instead of the MAME emulator. Based on my research, here is what I believe I need to do. Setup Retroarch in LaunchBox Associate the Arcade platform in RetroArch, using the Mame 2003+ Core https://docs.libretro.com/library/mame2003_plus/. Download the MAME 0.XXX non-merged ROM set based on Mame 2003+. Can anyone confirm this before I kick off this huge 122GB download? Also to keep these versions updated, it looks like clrmamepro is the best way to do this?

If you already have the 0.222 romset, just use that and use the "MAME" core in retroarch, thats not versioned because its updated every month. As in the ones with versions or dates on them are for old stuff, as referenced in the core names. MAME is the core you want for you current set. Gangor
Wow, thanks for your ninja fast reply. I must be doing something wrong. I download the Mame-Current (mame-libretro.dll) core previously, but it pulls down a zip file and an empty Core folder. If I extract the zip which appears to have the .dll within, it fails with an unexpected error...this happens on 2 pc's which is why i started looking at other cores. Should be able to download the core directly in Retroarch. I'd delete what you have in the cores folder, start Retroarch -> Load Core -> Download Core -> pick MAME current. Just checked, working OK. Gangor
Ok, i figured out the mame-current core not installing issue...i highly doubt the fix will apply to anyone else so I will not clutter this thread with that info. The core does install via RetroArch and I see the # next to it finally. Unfortunately, scanning the ROM folder still does not list any games and I do not see the option to add the mame-current core when I edit the RetroArch emulator in LB. I don't claim to have a solid understanding of any of this yet, could this be due to using a split ROM set and I just read something about needing a bios/device set for split sets? Gangor
I hate threads that don't close properly, here's what fixed everything: I apparently couldn't figure out how to use the split rom set properly. I switched to non-merged and all the major issues I was having with games starting with the RetroArch mame core resolved. To give just a bit of background to the issue I mentioned previously about not cluttering the thread if it was going to continue. In short, I had to re-image due to unknown factors and I chose software and data wipe to be 100% clean. ONce that was complete and all software was loaded back up issues persisted. I found for some reason, there were remains of the old file structure on the pc and when i reinstalled LaunchBox to a new location, the software somehow was pulling from those directories. I coughed it up as a windows 10 issue, deleted all old directories, reinstalled LaunchBox again and everything started working as to be expected.
