HappyDavePants
OK so this may be a really really dumb question!!! I've been setting up my first arcade and got rom sets for MAME .229 Merged NES SNES Mega Drive Master System GBA Neo Geo Though I've been having trouble with Neo Geo.. and when considering giving up.. I was checking my mame set and noticed most (if not all) games were already in the MAME set.. then I started checking some SNES games and same deal. Do Mame sets usually include the above systems? Or is it just that the games I'm checking were released across multiple systems.. Sorry for the really really dumb question! Just trying to decide how much more time I need to spend on Neo Geo emulators..if at all. Thanks!!!!

MAME sets contain arcade systems mostly, If you have a set that barely works and also contains snes games its not a actual MAME romset. If you have a full Mame rom set (not Software list set) then all the NeoGeo games are included in that set and will work perfectly fine. If you are using Mame for consoles I would really advise against it in 99% of the cases.
neil9000
Just now, Lordmonkus said: If you are using Mame for consoles I would really advise against it in 99% of the cases. That. Also if your MAME set has those systems, its a "software list set" which is not arcade games.
HappyDavePants
Thanks for the prompt responses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hmmm... hard to say . I see some mario games but no zelda. Either way there are 14k worth of roms which is crazy big! I can use different emulators sure.. as I have those anyone (minus a good neo geo). So I guess Ihave a ROM set not a Software List. I did import using Launchbox Full Arcade Set.. though after the import I noticed a bunch of missing images (not a huge amount, but enough to notice) and only 7k games were actually imported. So wondering if I need to run another import against that 14k set, though this time choosing a different system, e.g. NES/SNES/MegaDrive etc.. Is it fair to assume that there could really be 14k worth of MAME roms that are purely arcade? Something just doesn't add up. Thanks again
Lordmonkus
Yeah it sounds like you got some mixed rom set from somewhere so that's not good. 2 minutes ago, HappyDavePants said: I did import using Launchbox Full Arcade Set This should only be used with a proper full rom set, otherwise you will have games imported that you don't actually have. 3 minutes ago, HappyDavePants said: So wondering if I need to run another import against that 14k set A proper full Mame set has A LOT of files in it but you will never get all those into Launchbox depending on your import settings. Many of the rom files in a complete set are fruit machine and video poker type games and then on top of that you have all of the regional roms (aka: clones). Launchbox by default will not import the fruit machine and gambling games and for the clones it should import them under the main front facing rom based on the region you chose to prioritize so they will not count towards the total number of games at the bottom of Launchbox. 6 minutes ago, HappyDavePants said: though this time choosing a different system, e.g. NES/SNES/MegaDrive etc Do not use the full set importer for consoles, it will not work and there are no console roms in a proper Mame rom set, only arcade games. For consoles you want to look for No-Intro sets for cartridge based systems and Redump for CD based systems.
HappyDavePants
Ahhh that makes a whole lot more sense! Thanking you soooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazed at the speed of response! Will continue my hunt to find a Neo Geo Emulator and ROM set that works for me in Launchbox. Most ROM sets say Neo Geo.. though they seem to include Neo Geo Poket, AES, CD .. Lordmonkus
I would just advise you find a complete Mame rom set, check the internet archive. It will contain the complete NeoGeo rom set and you can use the playlist generator in Launchbox in the Mame full set importer to make a NeoGeo playlist. Most NeoGeo rom sets out there are old and outdated and may not work in newer emulators.
