Launchbox won't add a particular ROm even though it runs in MAME just fine.

Hello.  So far I've been loving Launchbox and spending many hours importing all my different platforms into one nice central location  However, i've run into one single MAME rom that, even though I can run it through Retroarch just fine, when trying to add the file to Launchbox, no matter what I do it never shows up on the list of games to import at the end of the set-up process.

Unsure if this is some kind of naming issue of the rom itself, or what.

WWF Superstars

wwfsstaru.zip

Runs fine using core MAME 2010 inside Retroarch but Launchbox always turns its digital nose up at importing it  Any ideas would be appreciated.

I dont even have a version of the WWF Superstars game named that way in mine, so it's probably a really old rom that is no longer used.

Regardless though, dragging and dropping the file, or using the add button should work fine, just make sure you check the box in the wizard to "use mame naming for emulators other than mame that use that naming" if you are choosing Retroarch as the emulator. It does sound like you are hand picking roms though, thats not advised at all for MAME as you dont actually know what version the rom is, likely why your naming on it is incorrect, that rom no longer exists, also why you have to use such a old core to run it, as it's no longer a accepted rom. MAME is different from other emulators in that roms change all the time, and a rom is only ever guaranteed to work with one version of the emulator, the matching one (so if your rom is from a 0.232 romset you have to use version 0.232 of the emulator as well, the rom may not work in any other version as it may of been named that way and contained exactly those files in the zip for that one version only before changing names or files inside of the zip).

I see.  It's not that I don't understand about MAME and ROM changes, I've been using MAME off and on for ten years or so.  My personal thing is, if the rom I have for Pac-Man stops working on the newest version of MAME, I'll find a way rather than stop having that game available.  Thanks though, it's as I suspected and must be a naming convention.

Just get a romset and the matching version of the emulator and dont update them ever. You dont have to update anything, and as i said updating the emulator will actually break things. What you are doing really isnt the recommended way and will always cause you issues, issues you wont have if you get a romset and stick to it.

I understand about romsets.  Here's a real life example.  I grab the 0.229 romset (split).  I grab MAME 0.229 windows binary.  I import the romset.  No Pac-Man, just Pac-Mania.  See. this is why, in my opinion, there is no perfect, "one set" scenario, at least not that I've seen so far.

Not there as in it did not get imported into LB or just not in Mame. It is in Mame here is a screen shot from .230. It is typically "best" to get a full rom set that matches the mame version you choose to use.

Pac-Man is technically clone of Puck Man.
