Recommended portable player for retro gaming

Are there any recommended portable units for a good retro gaming experience? I know the very expensive machines like Odin do a great job. But I'm thinking of something under $£200. I realise such a unit would have a lower end processor and may not run higher end console games.

It would be great to see what experiences those in here have had. It would be nice to see what options there are at the lower end and what their upper limits are for emulation. e.g.

Player:.  XXX

Price: YYY

Highest emulation console: ZZZ

Check out some videos from ETA Prime or Retro Game Corps on YouTube, I have many of them, favorite being the RG551V at the moment. Waiting for the Odin to arrive, I think that will be the one the plays most systems quite good, up to GC, PS2 and Wii.

You could also go for the RG552, but that price difference between that one and the Odin is very small, I'd than rather get the Odin.

Depends also which games you wanna play, if DC, N64, NDS and PSP are needed, you obviously have to pay more.

Personally i currently use a RGB10 Max (I'd recommend the Max 2 now as it has better buttons and grip, but wasn't out when i got mine) which can run everything up to PS1 perfectly, it can also do some N64, Dreamcast, and PSP but those systems are very hit and miss, and i don't use PSP or Dreamcast on it personally. I really like it for what it is and i like the UI (it is Linux EmulationStation based).

And versus my previous portable, the RG351P.

I have the same RGB10 Max (Panda look), but haven't set up even up yet. I also got the Retroid Pocket 2+, which is a bit more powerful, but only has a 3.5 inch screen compared to the RGB10 Max.

I skipped the retroid as i dont like the dpad placement on it, for a device that is to play retro games i want the dpad on top, not the stick. I do have my eye on both the Odin and the RG552, i wanna see actual retail prices on the Odin, and i'm waiting for the release of the 351elec firmware for the 552 as i don't want to use Android on a device like this if i can help it.

Interesting. I've just been looking at the Max 2! I think this will suit my needs.. Not bothered too much about higher end emulation for now. Would just be nice to get a portable I can tinker with (LaunchBox?) and play lower end emulation like SNES, Amiga(?), Mame. The Odin will be the perfect all rounder but it's not being shipped yet. I'd like a machine for max £100 for now until I splash out on something more long term at a later date.

Amiga will be tougher to run, I use my PS Vita with Amiga games, works quite well.

You wanna have a system that's able to run EmuELEC (or ArkOS), looks so great on a handheld device. I think you cannot go wrong with either the RGB Max 10 (1 or 2), or the RG351M/P/V. I personally like the 351V model, I have the wooden looking one, as most other handhelds I won are horizontal shape and I also have the RG350M, thus no real need for a 351M/P.

I also have the OneXPlayer, but that might be over the top 😄
