faeran
Hi everyone, We did deploy a small(ish) update to the database in preparation for a few things. Sharing the changelog here where we can discuss any questions anyone might have regarding the changes. There will be more to come for database changes before the end of the month, so stay tuned. Added support for Poster, Square, and Icon image types for games Fixed issues causing corrupted changes in the moderation queue Fixed a few game locking system issues As far as the new image types are concerned, users have the ability to upload images for these types at the moment to start populating the database, but keep the following things in mind with regards to what they are for: Poster: A 2:3 aspect ratio image representing the main image of the game Square: A 1:1 aspect ratio image representing the main image of the game Icon: A small icon that represents the game in question

Many users insist on adding fan creations in the two mentioned categories, which causes that when any user assigns region priorities the downloaded media is unpredictable, mixing fan creations with authentic media. On the other hand, presenting good looking carts for the cart categories is very difficult, so it's usual to reconstruct them using templates, but since there is no category for reconstructed there is always the possibility that some user will reassign them, and having real photos mixed with reconstructed cartridges is not optimal. The fanart cart category can be used but that also ends up mixing reconstructions with fan creations. Please add those three categories. Fanart Box 3D, Fanart Clear Logo, Cart front Reconstructed. The lack of them has created many problems in moderation for years and a lot of extra work.

Instead of adding another 50 image types, which not only complicates and clutters the Games Database, but also LaunchBox, we'll be adding a tagging system. So instead of fracturing "Clear Logo" into many different image types, we simply have a "Clear Logo" image type, then people can tag it with things like "Fanart" and the like. 1
Sagien
Regarding guidelines, should the game's logo on the Poster and on the Square have the same size or should the Square's logo be bigger than the Poster's to account for a bigger image? Poster and Square images are part of the Box - Front image group. If a game has an official version of either size available, it can come into those image types. If not, it can be used as the best recreation of the original artwork in this form factor. The goal being that in the future, this could be an option inside of LaunchBox/Big Box to display box images that are uniform across platforms, if users prefer. I was thinking about something like this: The square version is just an extension of the poster. But the logo seems smaller in this case. Would it be better if the logo was bigger? Sorry to ask. I can't seem to find a page with guidelines for the images.

I just cropped the poster and added the logo for the square, I don't think the logo size or position matters too much it's going to differ the same as official posters will.
