How best to setup only a small handful of MAME roms?

Currently doing a new build on an Intel NUC 13. I am not sure how best to handle only a small number of mame roms. There are really only 20-30 that I care about--mostly just 80's classics that I am familiar with. What I do is put them in the Arcade roms folder and let LB do the rest. This doesn't really seem to work. The game will start to launch but then just kinda sits at a white screen or some other such unuseable state.

 

I don't want a huge install, so I don't want to import an entire fullset. 

Any suggestions?

hmmm. should be as simple as running the mame import and pointing launchbox to the rom file folder within your mame folder.

Do the games work when you start them directly from MAME itself?

I didnt do a mame import, per se, I dont think. I just pointed the importer to that folder and selected Arcade as platform and Retroarch, pretty sure, as the emu?

Yeah, I just checked and Retroarch is the only emulator in my install.
