LaunchBox Games Database Update - February 27, 2025

Hi all,

Sorry for the lateness of this post, but wanted to let everyone know about an update we had last week with the Games Database.

For those on the Games Database site a lot you'll have noticed that the game page has been visually updated, which includes a facelift for the page itself which now combines the overview and images sections, and the edit game pop-up. We took feedback that we received over the last year and took them into consideration when building out this new page.

However, for the most part, the more interesting aspects of this change is happening under the hood. We've implemented more modern technologies to facilitate the entire page, which should lead to a faster user experience, and faster updates.

Here are some of the highlights of the changes:

• Rebuilding of the game page which combines the overview and images pages into one and organizes the metadata and images in a more concise way
• A new edit game page with a more streamlined layout with the ability to make changes to multiple images at once
• Quick search functionality in the header while on the game's page (rolling it out to other pages as time permits)
• Brand new modern frontend framework that performs faster and is more robust
• Cloudflare integration that allows for localized images for users across the world and provides us with a faster, smoother, and automated deployment process

 

Since the update, we've collected feedback, found some known issues and have been tackling them as quickly as we can. A second deployment took place on Wednesday, which tested our new automated deployment process (which worked flawlessly), which included a number of those fixes.

Remaining known issues that we are tackling right now, which will come down the pipeline shortly:

• Adding an alternate name is expecting a region value when it shouldn't be
• Missing ability to add Poster, Square, and Icon images to games in the Edit Game pop-up

There's a bug in the database moderation where the same image is being shown for changing images.

This is the image on the game page with the spine at the top.

Stuck in "Error, An unexpected error occurred while processing your request" loop every time I enter the Moderation section.
